I say get the H1 Arctic Cat has had great luck with it so far, and it is made right here in Minnesota. The H1 will have more ground clearance, rack capacity, suspension travel, and a 2" receiver hitch. The Grizzly is a great ATV, but I would not get one right now as this is the last year of that model and next year it will seem dated. The 2007 models will be changed to a 700 EFI.
As for your prices, you need to find a new dealer. H1's sell for $6,800 - $7,100 around here. You can get the Arctic Cat 700 EFI for $7,900 at the dealership in St Cloud even. The twin cylinder V2 is less expensive then the H1 only because the H1 has the front and rear bumpers, and the crome wheels. Add those to the V2 and it is more money then the H1.
Just and FYI, the H1 will beat the Grizz in a drag, right up until top speed.

If you plan to do mostly trail riding the KQ would be an excellent choice. But if you plan to haul things with your ATV, pull stumps, plow your driveway, carry a deer out of the woods, etc. a bigger framed ATV is nice. That 700 EFI in the KQ and AC 700 is a good engine, just too bad they have that lag.

I just read that your prices include a winch, plow, and hand warmers. If so, then your prices are pretty straight. Just make sure you get the 60" plow!!!!! Anything smaller and it won't clear the width of your ATV when you angle the blade.

I know you didn't mention the Suzuki Kingquad 700, but you can get a 2006 for $5999 before tax at Heinens.I saw the add in the Sunday Star and tribune.By the way I've owned a Grizzly,and it's a great machine, but I now own a Kingquad,which to me is a more refined Grizzly with a little more power, handling,and speed.The Arctic Cats are HUGE,heavy,expensive, and more suited for work then trail riding,although they have awesome clearance.

the grizz is a hell of a machine but so is the H1. kinda from what i gather the H1 would have more bottom end but the grizz might have more mid range. and well i am sure catterman will comment on this pretty soon but i believe you can get the H1 cheaper then the V-2. but my buddy has a grizz and well he is trading it off soon and getting another grizz so that says something bout them good machine.

ok i will say something bad about the grizzly now. i have worked on my buddies a couple times once cause he got the winch cable wrapped around the front end and tore it up and another time to rejet it and put on a different pipe. the grizz is an absolute pain in the butt to work on. you got no room to work and things just seem to be placed weird just to make them more hard to work on on purpose almost.

why do you worry bout hard steering? just use more arm muscle lol or be like me go fast enough where you are just sliding sideways around the corners. alot of the people on the ute's have a hard time keeping up with me even the lil 650 prarie's with their straight axle. it is fun to take a machine that typically isn't made for the trails and ride it harder through the trails when the occasion calls for it.

If you want something primarily for work and severe off-road action, get the cat. I have a V2 and it amazes me. I run over logs and huge rocks with NO issues, have pulled 10' oak logs, and plowed 12+ inches of snow in one swipe with my county plow. Plenty of low end power and plenty of weight...which is good for work...bad for trail riding.
If you're looking primarily for a trail riding machine, get the grizz. The steering is heavy in the cat, so you'll have a lot more fun sporting around with the grizz. When I looked to get mine, I seriously thought about the grizzly too...and people who have them seem to love them as much as us AC people. Plus, the quality is probably better on the grizzly. So...buy the AC for capabilities...or buy the grizzly for better quality/service and sporting around. Both will easily plow...

I have a 2005 650 v2. It's been in the shop a pretty decent number of times. Quality of the metal on the spring adjusters was terrible. Tabs snapped off like plastic before they were replaced. Throttle had to be replaced as well. And even after being replaced and I still had issues, they found it was routed the wrong way causing other issues. Also, it seems the the mechanics/service from the dealers is very often poor.
All that said, I wouldn't trade my AC for anything. It's definitely one of the most capable workhorse atv's out there...but it's definitely not a primary for trailriding...steering is far too heavy.

Actually, already put more air in the tires. Also, got stiffer tires than the mt/r's that it comes with. Don't get me wrong, it's ok (esp in 2wd), but you can't compare the steering to the lighter grizz/brute forces/etc.

If you want a big, heavy duty machine then get the H1. My buddy has a Grizz and I drive it sometimes, its a nice machine. But..
We've already bent his "bumpers", if you can even call them that. Hollow aluminum tubes that are purely for looks, yeh, we bent the crap out of them. It does handle nice in the woods, very nice, but it handles like crap on the open road. I felt like I was gonna die when we were up around 60mph. I think I could ride my cat around 80 and still feel stable.
Cat's aren't perfect either, but I do think you get a more durable worker by far. And they are made right here in MN, it's nice to have the MN pride. =)

Put some more air in the front tires. I run about 9-11lbs and it helped a lot.

True, it will always have a heavier feel for steering, but I will take heavy that heavy steering at low speeds to have the rock solid feel when you hit top speed. Light steering at 60+ is not a positive feature, ride the grizz at top speed and then the Cat, you'll know what I mean.

The steering can be hard when you are in the slow tight stuff, but I guess no machine is perfect. I personally don't mind the harder steering in exchange for the high speed stability. Cuz I go fast a lot. =)

Get the cat!!!!! They are both good machines, (660 grizzly by the way) but i think cat takes the edge in options, and accessories

Have to dissagree with the "QUALITY" part of your message. I think AC has come along ways, and mabey its not surpassed the Grizzly, but its definately not of less quality.

I am looking at the 650 Grizzly compared to the 650 Cat H1. I live in MN and hunt / fish / plow snow. I am getting prices with winch, plow and hand / thumb warmers. The 650 is probably overkill but “go big or don&39;t go at all”. I started the search assuming I would buy a sportsman but to many bad stories out there.
I read a story about bad welds on the Grizzly frame – Any truth to that or isolated incident?
Anybody have any insight / suggestions / comments?
Here is what I am being told:
06 H1 only came in a special edition that includes chrome rims and chrome bumper. This is increasing the price of the H1 to 7,750 with out tax – seemed kind of high. He told me that I could get the twin cylinder for 7,150. This seemed kind of strange – anyone lese heard of this?
Best I have heard to this point is 7,100 with out Tax for the Grizzly. Again these prices do not include tax but do include winch, plow and warmers.
Any feedback on the two rigs / prices?????
