If you are going to race, I suggest you contact the track you plan on racing at and ask them what is required on your quad and yourself to race. Depending on the style and the track the rules can be different.

Just start going to the race track, and ride as much as possible to build endurance and muscles. A 13t front sprocket and a 41t rear sprocket is great for mx. You can run it on the track stock if you stay in a begginer class. If you get more serious you will have to get shocks, a-arms,axle,motor work, etc. That will make you alot faster.

first get out there as much as possible and hit the track and start conditioning those muscles you haven't used in a while. and well i would go with a lower gearing ratio it doesn't need to go over 45 mph your dvx if you are gonna race it, it just needs to get up to speed quick. a couple other things is a pipe a k&n airfilter system different tires and get the carb set so you can run about 105 octane in it. and well most importantly have fun and be safe

i am not big into the sport quads, i do have a dirtbike but left the gearing be beings i am not racing it yet. and you would have to go onto the sportbike part of the forum on here and talk to the guys that race. i know if i get a pipe for my dirtbike it will probably be an FMF or a pro circuit pipe. i know there are alot of things you can do to those things even suspension upgrades and stuff along those lines.

If you are going to race you MUST have nerf bars. AC makes some really nice ones...

I just bought a 2006 dvx 400. I used to do alot of trail riding, but it's been about 8 years since I've ridden at all. I went down to our local mx track and got all exited when I seen the other bikes hitting the jumps. Can anyone recommend a good way to get started in racing quads and not get run over by the younger, more experienced riders. Also, do I need to buy anything for my quad or can you run them on the track stock? Any input would help me greatly, Thanks.

Thanks for the advise weez. I see they are always advertising a 13 tooth sprocket (front), would that change the ratio? Also does it matter what kind of pipe I get?
