That is true, my dad's 2000 500 auto is about as fast as my (now sold) 2004 400 auto. The 500's had a lot more torque though. Arctic Cat did increase the power in 2003, and again in 2006.

From a philosophical point of view here's something to remember.
You do not own a quad with 34 miles; you own a FIVE-YEAR-OLD quad than happens to have only 34 miles.
Expect some age issues regardless of the low miles. Be sure and flush the brake system. It's my understanding the pre-'03 500s are somewhat slower than '03 and later. I don't know exactly what the issue is, perhaps someone will weigh in with that knowledge.

I just bought a 2001 500 with 34 miles for my wife. Had to clean up the fuel system as it wouldnt run very good kept stalling and sputtering. other than that seems good . Looks like the same engine (quick look) as my 06 so everyone says the 500 is a great engine but what about the rest of the quad , is there anything I should look for or know about ???I know I couldnt bekieve it either 34 miles!

Well all is not so rosey! I cant get this thing to run propper. It idles great and runs good up to about 1/3 to 1/2 throdel then it starts to hit a brick wall -starts bucking and farting like its hit the govenor. I took the carb apart again and all seems clean( a dealer did it first before I bought it) I took the plug out last night and it was quite black. changed it , same thing. thinking its not gas anymore mabey its spark? Im not really sure if there is anyway to test the cdi but could this be the problem?

You say the plug is very black? try taking the airbox lid off and run it without it see if that makes a difference?
