First try tightening the valve core. If that does work, replace the valve core. Then do a valve stem, as you have to pop the bead loose on the rim and that is not fun. Chances are the core is loose or bad. Walmart or an auto parts store have valve stem kits that have cores and a tool included.

The valve stem on my front tire is leaking as soon as I loosen the cap. Can I replace the valve stem myself or does it require special tools? If I can do this, can you provide instructions? Thanks.

THANKS Bear!!! I replaced the valve core and no more leak. Grand total to fix was $2.98 and two minutes of my time.
