I am looking a getting the Artic Cat 400..but was wondering that it is air cooled ..is that good or bad ?also there is only one back brake which seems strange...thanks

Does it have the solid rear axle or the independent

its actually air and oil cooled with a fan on the oil cooler. the only time my fan ever runs is when i'm snowplowing in the winter seems strange but what ever. Most all 4wheelers only have one rear brake and it seems cat has solved their brake problems. I love my 03 400 i put in a jet kit to help push the mud tires they do great wheelies to. And the lack of coolant makes them lighter and one less problem to worry about.

Same here with my 400, I've rode her hard and the fan kicks on but it's never stopped me. Some people like water cooled over oil, but they both work. I have a 400 yamaha that is water cooled and my AC400 is oiled cooled nothing differnet. One's a truck the other is a tank.
Well I'm not sure what jet kit was used but my 05 400 will not do wheelies but will crush rocks, just fine.

Hello all, I am new to this forum and thought that I would share my first ride on a AC 06 400 auto. with ya'all (yes I live in the south,Alabama) What a wonderful experience, This bike did everything that I needed it to do, it hauled all my gear which is quite a lot when you spend 2 Wks in the woods hunting. I had a 1999 suzuki LTF 500 F (7256 miles) it was OK but nothing compared to the AC. The AC is so comfortable to ride that I made it to the cabin with half the fatigue that I had with the Suzuki. This bike has exceeded all my expectations. Arctic Cat is the only way to go!!

The Suzuki had a solid rear axle and the AC has independent, as far as I am concerned I will stay with an independent for the smooth ride that it offers.
