If you back it in, it will fit with a couple inches to spare. The short bed ford is a couple inches longer than the short bed chevy. Mine will fit in my uncle's truck easier than it will my own. His is a 92 f150 4x4 short box. Back it in and it will fit fine, with the tailgate shut as well.

On a short bed with a tool box? Two words... NO WAY! A short bed without a toolbox will have only 2-3 inches left with the tailgate closed on a 98 454 or a 99 500 hands down. Either you have a long (8ft.) bed or you live in a realm of expanding dimensions.

Yes, I used to haul my AC 454 in the back of my standard bed F150 with a cross-mounted tool box in the front AND the tailgate closed.

It should fit just fine. I haul my 454 in a 97
F150 Short bed. But mine has a tool box on it.
I have to lower the tailgate and let the rear wheels sit on it though. But without a toolbox
it shoud fit fine. However, you do want to try to
load it in backwards, the reason is because front
wards if it rolls any while you hauling the front bumper will hit the glass, if you do it backwards the rear wheels will be the first thing to make contact and will not do any damage.

My old truck was an 8' F-150. I could put my Sportsman in the back with a set of ramps, 3 sleds, 3 augers, 3 5 gal. buckets, a collapsable shanty, and still shut the tailgate.

Maybe if you park it backwards in the truck, other than that you will have to put the tail gate down.

Sorry to post again so quickly, Cert. of Deposit is coming due and I cant wait to spend it...
If I buy a AC 500 will it easily fit with a ramp into the back of my truck for transport?
I drive a 99 regular bed F150 4x4.
Thanks
