I've got an opportunity to get a 454 that has rarley been used, really good shape, I've ridden it a couple times . When were the 454's made - how can I tell what year it is (owner says 97 or 98) and what would be a good $$ offer to land it.
Thanks!

Haven't had a discussion yet, just recently employed after a 6 month job search. But the seller is in no hurry, but wants me to buy it. It is not on the market per se.

Not quite. The 454 isn't the same motor as the 500, very simialiar and a 500 topend can be put on the 454, but not the same. The 500's also had a major change in 03, they got a higher compression ratio, different cam, and a bigger carb to dump more fuel in. About a 33% hp increase.

The 454 was only made for three years, 96-97-98, The only difference between the 454 and the 500 was a little more power, everything else was exactly the same. The only difference in the motor with a manual trans from 96 to 05 is Electroncs and carb size. I sold my 98 500 with 4,000 miles last year and I got $3,500. They are bullet proof motors so if the frame and suspension is in good shape, I would go for for it.
