I had that same problem on my 99 and on my uncle's 98. The left fender got hot as hell because the exhaust is right below it. We rode with passengers a lot, and this just didn't work. Ordered this 6"x11" strip of adhesive heat shield from the Dennis Kirk website. Cost like $11 or so. It worked real good for cutting down on that heat.

Yup - Arctic Cat engineers seem to have mistakenly identified our left legs as a heat sink. Part Number 0U812 - Heat Sink, Leg
I suppose all that heat has to go somewhere. Another really fun feature is when you hit a few inches of water - then the steam is directed
right into your leg and will even blow up your pants leg some. Can make for a real neat 2nd degree burn. Battle scars is what factory calls them.
You will learn to ride wide legged like the rest of us. Sadly, AC falls flat on their face on this one. Too bad becuase otherwise these are really great quads.

They do get alittle warm on the exhaust side dont mind it when its cold out....... Welcome to the forums coonpelt nice to hear you like your ride.... Is it an o4 or 05??

I bought a 500 auto in Feb. ( my first ATV) really like the ride & power but as it has gotten warmer outside Ive notice alot of heat from the exhaust is discharged out the left side, very uncomfortable on the leg when crusing around in shorts. Overall very happy with the machine and would recommend to others.
