Do you have a winch on the machine? If so the loud click is most likely the solenoid.Did you pull the plug and check for spark?

Will it start with the rope? Could be the gear position switch on left side of engine just ahead of rear wheel. If you don't have any gear lights and it will start with rope that is where I would look first, they had some that did not get solderd good and wires came loose under the silicone seal.

Just a guess but, did you check for a blown fuse. Then again there could be a bad ignition switch. I would check all the fuses first. If it's not a fuse you will need a wiring diagram.

I was under the impression that all the fuses were under the little trap door in the front plastic. Ok, I just check my 2001 shop manual and according to my diagram of the 2001 there is no fuse at or near the battery. The diagrams says all the fuses are in the fuse box in front under the panel.

I have the same problem. The manual says that the main (30A) fuse is on the frame near the rear right wheel, but I was unable to find it. Does anyone know where the main fuse is on a 2001 Arctic Cat 300 ?

It turned out that the battery contact was loose! It felt tight enough, but after tightening, it started cranking. Thanks for checking your shop manual !
