This sounds like a classic bad connection along the big wire from the battery to the start solenoid. Either loose or corroded. Don't forget the ground cable from the battery to the frame and engine.

Could be a cylinder hydro locked by being full of fuel. My 250 has a lever to manually hold the exhaust valve open and releive the lock. Is for when you fill it with water but I've done the fuel thing by leaving the fuel valve on and changing altitude with it on the trailer. If nothing else pull the spark plugs and see if it cranks. Then again it could a bad starter solenoid or a starter. If you have a test lite, check both big terminals with the start switch depressed. Should have power on both, if not solenoid is bad. If power on both terminals then the starter is bad.

Sounds like a bad battery. Pull it out and bring it in for a load test.

My buddies died one day for no apparent reason. It's a long shot but there's a sensor on the back of your bike behind the tail light. It's held on by 2 screws, one of his fell out and killed the motor, you can check it out you might get lucky.Let us know what you figure out.

Was using 650 just fine several times today. Last time I went to use it the starter would not start. The battery has power but when start button pushed, the light goes out. Tried the recoil starter but cannot move the rope - it is seized. Oil is at top of normal range. Thanks for any ideas. Still under warranty and I can contact my dealer. Unfortunately he is 3 hrs drive.

Thanks ng & Bear4570. I'll try your suggestions tomorrow. I still wonder why I can't pull the recoil starter.

so.... I just went out & pushed the starter button - just a click like before. So I kept pushing it every second & it turned over & started. I drove around the yard, shut it off & can now pull the recoil. Thanks again for replying.
