Tools to carry; Is to replace the crappy cheap tools with some good quality ones. Some sockets and end wrenches which fit the machine you're riding. Most machines use metric sizes. They make spark plug caddies (little plastic containers for your spark plugs. These are great because they protect the plug. Bunjee cords, ratcheting tie downs, Wyoming saws or something similar. These break down and take up little space and work wonders on trees which have fallen on the trail. hatchets, waterproof matches, lighter, rain gear, rope 50- 100ft. 3/8" or larger. Plasma cable also is great and takes up less space. Tire plug Kit. Either a 12v Air compressor or CO2 cartridge pump. (you need atleast 3 cartridges to pump up a tire), emergency blankets, fire starting tablets, bug spray, compass, maps, GPS, flashlights, first aid kit, flares, extra fuel, extra gloves, clothing, garbage sacks, if your machine is equipped with a winch a come-a-long is a good replacement, All of these items fit nicely in my front box and fender bags.

I generally take plenty of snacks, drinks, food to last more then a day. My motto: is better to take it and not need then to leave and wish you had it!!

If you're coming to Utah in the spring bring good rain gear. It may be warm and sunny one minute and then a down pour the next.

Depending on where you will be riding a gun will be real handy as well. But I would suggest you determine how it will be used. For protection from animals (bears, cougars) I would say a 12gauge or 10gauge pump shotgun loaded with slugs or OO Buckshot. (I prefer a 10gauge myself)

You can throw in some extra bird shotshells so it can be used to shoot a few grouse and such for food if you have too.

I always carry a handgun on my person or on the quad or both. The one on my person is for defense against the 2 legged predators out there and they are out there. The Ruger Redhawk in 41 mag or the Contender in 45/70 in a holster on the tank bags is for anything else I might run into. Never go without the TP or water, even for a short run.

Don't forget the portable 12 volt air compressor,
found it being a life saver out on the trails,

Make sure you have a roll of TP with you too. Sage brush, poison ivy, oak leaves and sticks make poor subs... Ha.
