I had the same problem happen with mine about 3 weeks ago. The dealer ordered a new switch and had it in about 4 days. Maybe they have had several of these and have ran out of switches.

Arctic cop, I rode mine a couple of weeks before I had a chance to get it to the dealer. You just don't have a brake light, and you can use the foot brake to crank it in gear. I would ride until it comes in.

Regarding the brakelight/start in gear switch, the one they replaced on mine was probably 24 inches long and made the connection under the front plastic next to the steering stem. Don't know why they would have to go all the way back to the fuel tank.

Unless there is another switch I don't know about, the one that went out on mine that controlled the brakelight/start in gear was a micro switch behind the hand brake lever. It was not any type of pressure switch, just 2 wires from it running to a connector at the steering stem.

Add me to the list of bad switches too. went out for a ride yesterday and noticed it wouldn't start in gear with the hand brake and I had no break light... Just another thing to add to the list when I take her in next week.

I am glad to see I am not alone with it though.

With this many switches going bad, they must have had a bad batch of switches, which would explain why they are on backorder

I thought i was the only one lol, my hand brake switch quit working the 3rd day i owned my machine, the bad thing there on back order,so i went to radioshack and bought a micro switch it fits perfect,i just had to solder the wires from the old switch to the new one then shrink wrap the wires, it took me roughly 45 min to do and 2.35 for the switch

well in my opinion i think that articat lacks support for the ac 650, reason being i tore an axle boot and it took 3 weeks to get one, second thing is i orderd 2 clutch cover seals back in feb and there still on back order until may, i orderd a shop manual when i picked up my machine on feb 4th and still never heard from them

That's funny. I just noticed last night that the brake light on my new Cat does not work with the hand brake. I think I have a bad switch too. Sounds like I need to call the dealer ahead of time so I don't wait on my quad forever.

Dealer just called to update the status on my Cat. (Which I think was really cool of them to do). They said they have to order the switch from AC, will be a few days on the switch and then they'll get it put on. I'm looking at getting my quad back a week from today probably. Frustrating, but I guess that's about what you guys are hearing from your dealers too, huh?

Yeah that's what they are telling me too...the wire runs under the fuel tank, etc. So it's a pain to swap it out. But still, they can do that in a few hours. The important thing is getting the part! I sure hope that switch isn't on backorder! The dealer is supposed to call AC and check on it today.

Well I got some BAD news. I called to check on the status of my quad today. Looks like the switch is on backorder until May 6! I don't want to sit here and wait on my new quad for 3 or 4 weeks, so I'm going to pick it up today and whenever the part comes in I'll just drop it off and have them fix it. Geez...this sucks.

Odd thing is...my start-in-gear feature still works. It's just my brake-light that doesn't. The brake-light does work with the foot-brake though...so it's got to be in that hand-brake switch somewhere. I don't know...they told me the wires go under the fuel cell and everything so I don't know. Since the part won't be in for a month I may examine the switch myself when I get it back today and see if I can figure out exactly how it works. The dealer told me it's a hydraulic pressure switch.

I have an 04 ac650 with less than one hundred miles on it and the start in gear feature will not work with the hand brake. I took it to my dealer and they are servicing it under wararnty however the part is backordered and not sceduled for release until april 15th! It is just the hand brake swith/wiring that is bad. Is getting parts a problem I should expect from now on??

Thanks guys that helps me alot I thought I was alone on this whole mess, missery loves company! I just can't wait to get it fixed so I can get riding the weather has broken here in Ohio, I don't even have it broken in at less than 100 miles!

Yeah The foot brake still starts it in gear but the mechanic told me he had the plastics off and the wire/switch ran down the frame. He also told me it would take like 3hours to put it back together. He did offer but the dealership is not that close so I said just keep it fix it and I won't have the hassle! Never the less, fun fun!

Good news! I got mine back from the dealer on the 12th. I was glad to get it back! everything seems in order. I am wondering also if there is lack of tech support for these 650s though! But I think on this particlular part the volume of problems is the hold up on the new swith harness! so now we will see how she does it only has 97 miles on it!
