YES....
the 500s are actually suposed to be black but from what a guy at the factory told me is that someone saw a way to cut costs by buying some unpainted cases so that is why you see some with black covers, some that are all black and some with black cases.......

now what part are we talking about being black, i have seen some previeos to 2003 that have had black cylinders and stuff, my 2k3 has black covers on both sides, but the cylinder is not painted

i have a standard 500i, 5 spd, regular racks, had it since last july and i love it. Im sure you will get many years of fun out of yours egghead, just keep with the regular maintenance and it will be fine

Dealer told me that it may be the difference between the 500i MRP and the standard 500i We bought two 2003 500i one of each the MAP had silver cylindder head and the none MRP had painted black eng.

It sure looks painted(black) the entire engin. The other 03 500I with MRP rack is all silver except the belt cover its black.

I bought my first AC ATV last May and put 800 mile so far its a great machine just change the oil after the first 100 miles or so and all should be ok it is a great machine.

It's either plain or a black cylinder, I haven't seen any 03's with a painted cylinder, standard or mrp.
