Yeah, I had the problem most of last year. My AC 500i, is a 2002 model year shifter. About May of 2003, after going through deep water, the indicator went dim and the engine started missing. After I shut the engine down, it wouldn't start. Finally found the problem in September, when I removed the front plastic and checked the ignition connector located next to the steering post with a continuity tester. The plug was getting water inside and that caused the short. I removed the connector. Replaced it by soldering all wires together. No more dim lights or start problems. If you don't know how to do this type of work, don't start now. Take it to a reputable dealer and ask them to find the problem.

Check your connections and and grounds. That may be the solution.

I thought the instrument lights on my 500i - gear indicator, high beam, etc... had gone completely dead, until I fired it up this evening to haul some firewood. In the dark, I could see the gear indicator light on, it was just REAL DIM and could only be seen in darkness.
Anyone have this happen to them? Know any quick fixes? Sure was nice having that gear indicator.
