160?? The 2wd/4wd/locker linkage kit is only $50 bucks, sounds like your dealer is trying to screw you.

If you have the front diff locked, it will provide power to all wheels equal regardless of anything else, to the point that they WILL brake a drive axle. Don't know if the 250 can be locked though, you would have to buy the diff shift lever because they don't come with one & maybe some other parts, perhaps someone who has worked with the 250 can confirm this.

I broke one on a Suz 250 4X4 diff locked trying to pull a 500 Cat out of the mud. When I added a second passenger for traction in Super Low on a rock it made a $$$$$ bang.

would the 250 even have the power to break one on accident? i would worry about it that much.

With the 2 wheels with traction ,do the 2 wheels in the air spin?

Thank's sxr6,yes they have the locking option($120.00).
How would a person "break" a drive axle?(accidently i mean, not on purpose)by installing these locks?

Boner, i live in Newfoundland (an island),the furthest easterly point in North America, refer to a map if you like, also ,i am talking Canadian dolars.
P.S. What about this "true 4 wheel drive will break a drive shaft" comment mentioned earlier in this thread?.
I e-mailed ATV Magazine about the March 2001 issue you mentioned and they said they don'thave a back issue department. But the guy i e-mailed said he would send me a copy for free.
If he doe's send it,i will be truly surprised!
I'll let you know what happen's about the mag.
Later,K.White

Yes the 01 250 4x4 can be locked, I haven't been able to get all the positions on my sons but I can get 2wd /3wd or 3wd / 4x4 locked. This is an awsome little bike the more I ride it the more I like it. It will easily go places where my 500a will have a small problem. The only thing holding it back is, it needs bigger tires for gc. But that would take away some of the power, it is limited allready. But if you ride it in the middle range it is actually quite peppy.
