I have a 98 AC 300. When the Cat is cold and you try to start it, it is flooded. I need to hold the gas wide open to get it to start. Once the fuel clears out it runs great. It fires right up when it is warm. I haven't had time to pull the carb off yet. Does anybody have any ideas to what the problem is? Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I now have another problem, when the engine gets hot it starts to cut out at high rpm's. I hope it's just the sparkplug.

I have run it up to the rev limiter in the past. It was cutting out earlier than that. I put a new plug in last night and that took care of it cutting out and now it just purrs like a kitten. Tonight when it is cold I will see if it is still flooding out. I talked to my dealer and he said he would pull the carb and clean it for $25. For that price I don't think I will mess with doing it myself.

Sounds like your fuel float might be getting stuck.

My 300 did that last fall. It turned out to be the air filter.

Try when your done riding to turn off gas tap. Then when you try to start it cold it should not flood. If this works your needle & seat need replacing.

Another thing you might check is float height, mine was set to high from new which caused it to flood out on uneven ground.

Two things come to mind
Check all of the vent hoses coming out of the carburetor and make sure that they are not pinched along their entire length.
If no hoses are pinched it may be possible that your 300 is running so well you are bumping up against the rev limiter! :)
