I think its one of the better looking quads out there myself. But then again I am more into what quads used to look like. Rugged and tough. I like the looks of a Bayou 400 a lot better than a prairie, and a Sportsman 400L a lot better than any of the current Polaris quads. I Like the rugged look of the Grizzly also.
Basically, utility quads should look tough I think. A polaris quad with plastic racks or a Prairie does not look tough. They look brittle and weak. Thats my take, though I am in the minority here.

Have you ever looked at the cheesey design of a Kodiaks front fenders. Or tried to keep the mud off of you with the front and rear fender designs of the Polaris. Look at that round design of the Prairies. No Floorboards on Hondas. All these machines have shortcommings, Sure the AC doesn't look like a honda, but GMC Yukons don't look like Jeeps. It is just a matter of personal preferences. When I bought my Cat I wasn't real enthusiastic about it's looks , but I did some research and discovered that dollar for dollar the cat was the best deal going. The looks grow on you after a while and i haven't yet been dissappointed in my choice. I have had my cat now for 1 year as of today, 2100 miles and not a single problem with it yet. I think that speaks quite highly of the design and quality that AC puts in their ATV's.

Well I bought my cat thinking it was one ugly ATV. I still think it's one of the, if not the, ugliest when dirty:but when I clean it up and mount my claws on it I don't think so anymore.
I think Arctic Cat REALY REALY needs to change the Plastic. Not JUST for looks, but also for quality. They need some plastic that bolts on or something to stop those annoying rattles you get every now and then from the crapy plastic design.

I agree with the Bayou and Sp400 looking better than there counterparts, but I still think the cat is an ugly duck. I like the looks of the Rancher and Foreman series. They don't have as tough a look as the cats, but they look alot better as far as style(IMO).

Don't be turned off yet wait until the new models come out this summer you will like.....that is all I can say.....

Like I said before, why not just wait until the 2002 models are released.......Relax people....You will like what you see???????

I think the Cat has a tough look like the Grizzly and has lots of appeal. I think Arctic Cat should not make every model they have with the same plasic though, they are the only quads you have to go right up to and read the side cover to know which modle you are looking at.

Man, I seem to be a silent minority on this one. Heh heh heh. Actually, while it is a matter of personnel preference, I really like the looks of my 'Cat. It looks like a damn tank, tough as hell to boot. Call me crazy though, but I still prefer the looks of the older "box" style Chev's and Fords, compared to the newer style in the pickups too. One thing though, you have to give it to AC for using those plastic rivets on the fenders, instead of screws or some other type of fastening device. Granted, some people don't like them, but they work great for what they were designed to do. Run through some really tight trees, or hell, tip the thing over if need be-you'll see real quick that those little rivets pop loose, saving you the cost of an entirely new fender! I've seen a few other machines tip over with a stronger fastening device that did not break and guess what-cost the owners brand new fenders all the way around! Not cheap. While it may not be the best looking to some, it does serve a purpose, that can't be denied. Myself, I think she's purdy! Heh heh heh.
Just another thought from a northern RedNeck!

Mr T,
I didn't buy my Arctic Cat for the way it looked.Honestly I didn't think it looked bad at all. Some of the other brands of ATV's lok prety $hitty also. I bought my CAT because after test riding it , it has such great low end grunt(it felt like it could pull a house off the foundation),it has stabillity(weight up front to keep it from coming over backwards on steep hill climbs, and low center of gravity for those steep side hills.),Good ground clearance, high rack capacities, price and plenty of other reasons.
The reason they don't put the IR sus. on them like the 300's and Polarises is when you put a load on the back you lose ground clearance in the rear. With the solid axle you can load the crap out of it and the only clearance you lose is in the tires squashing down.
If you are looking at them, you can't go wrong.
Just My Opinion!!!

i myself, did not buy my cat for the plastic, and it seems with a 40% increase in atv sales for the company neither did alot of other people , ac built its reputation from tested and true reliability, power and low end grunt.bullies never were seen as pretty boys anyway.just my input.no offence MR t

OK you have out done yourself now TEXASCAT. It does kinda look like a wild flower if you concentrate long enough. If my soon to be wife reads this I'll never see it again for sure!

hey dude, what is also not particularly aesthetically attractive but still drives men to great lengths to get?? (no pun intended)
hint: we waited nine months to get out of it and we will spend the rest of our lives trying to get back in.
one hell of a redneck thought,

i like the way my cat looks. the best part about the plastic is that there are few areas to trap mud and other debris. i looked at the new suzuki quads and i have to say i'm not impressed. the plastic has too many corners and little channels that look like they are begging to be filled with dirt, etc. the grizzly's body even looks a little similar. i guess in forming plastic that way, manufacturers make the quad look like a hummer or something.

i think the cat is the best looking quad thats why i want one...

I think the AC looks like hell. Just kidding!:-) I think it looks like a HD working machine. If there's one machine I find butt ugly, no pun intended, would have to be the Traxter. I just can't get use to that design but I like the easy access to the engine. I haven't seen an AC around here, just what I've seen in mags, and found the articles very interesting. I don't know of any dealer around this area. Maybe someday I'll own one but for now I'll just have to use what I have.

t,
if you ask me, the plastic is ac's weakest point, including the "tool box" on my 500a. but what lies beneath the surface is the reason i bought it. they'll probable upgrade it in the future. they did the seat and gas tanks. but i did "rip" off my rear mudflap today and not ruin anything else. a few rivits from the ac dealer will fix that right up.

I know this does not apply to some people, but it does to others. I think the plastic is ugly, and if it was designed diffrently i think alot more people would buy the atv's. This is just my opinion. Why dont they put irs on the 500 like they did on the 300. Dont get mad at me guys becasue i might buy one, but u got to admit they are not the best lookin quads.
Posted by: MrT
Great replies. The point of my topic is not why u bought the quad. It is the plastic. Arctic Cat makes good atvs, but i think they would sell alot better if they had nicer looks. They did have a 40% gain in atvs sales this quarter i think.

I just bought a new AC 500 and I like the way it looks. I think it looks much better in person than in the pictures I have seen. It looks even better when you are looking over the bars riding down the trail. And I've been told that the more you ride it, the better it looks. It sorta grows on you.
