Years ago Phillips 66 Royal Triton oil was a very nice purple color. Sort of like the color of a queens robe. I think the colors are just dyes for rememberance gimmicks. each have their own trademark color for that one special oil.

Thats just the color of arctic cat brand oil. I'm not sure if it's a die they put in it(honda oil is red) or if Niteowl was right when he claimed the synethetic in it made it green. I'm betting they added die in the oil to make it different.

The Arctic Cat brand oil you get at the dealer has a green dye in it. That's what I've been using since it was new, but am ready to try something else (too expensive :() It's probably green because that's their sled racing colors :)

Every 100 miles! That would work out to a oil change after every fill up of gas for me. Is good to change your oil but you are wasting your time and money if your changing it every 100 miles.
When you change your oil you should save it and I'll buy it off you.LOL

Where do you get the green oil? also, what kind of oil do you guys recommend for your cats? Anyone have any bad dealings with a certain brand or any really good dealings that you would recommend?

Mine was just like that too. I believe it is assembly lube. I used some purple stuff on the truck engines I've built. dakotacat, me and some of the other cat riders were going to have a little get together/camp out in april or may on my land down in Edna. I don't know if you are interested but we have plenty of space and supplies if you want to drive and join us. Drop me aline if you are interested.

Do you think that is just a marketing thing for brand recognition or what? I worked for Pennzoil for a year in college and we had some funky colored oils there from Pennzoil. Their synthetic blend used to be a super shiny gold mettalic color like the bottles they came in. That would make since now that I know Honda oil is red. Ya never know what the Final Jeopardy question will be someday. Thanks.

I think you need to put it into perspective. If you drove your truck/car the way you drove your ATV it would die a miserable death. I have a very tough and well built/fixed up dakota but if I drove it at full speed as much as I do my cat, towed right at the max weight all the time like my cat does, rode around in mud fender deep, tossed it into corners hard, played in the sand, JUMPED it it would die. We do all these things with our cats so yes they need some extra maintence. 300 miles for an oil change is very reasonable to me. I have a friend with a polaris that is ragged out. Rust, never been lubed, broken stuff like fenders, bent bars, bent rims, has no brakes, and the list goes on and on. He won't pay 50 bucks for new pads but he will go spend 6000 grand for a new bike. Bottom line is some guys love their stuff and others don't care. me I love to work on my trucks and quads even when they don't need it. I don't have alot of time usually but you can bet I'll be up late this Friday night after work changing the brakes and oil(even if it is 50 miles early) on my dad's 400 and my 500 cat so we can go riding Saturday and Sunday together. I just enjoy doing it. Sorry to rant and rave here but I have a passion for automobiles and ATVs. Take care of your stuff and it will take care of you. Like I tell my students, "If you don't start taking care of business then business is going to start taking care of you."

Arctic Cat oil is green. The only other oil that I know of that is green is Kendal. Honda oil is red.

Did my 100 mile oil change this weekend, what do they put in the oil to make it green? Some sort of additive from the factory maybe?

Iv'e been watching that thread, it looks like it would be about a 5-6 hour drive for me to get down there, so I'll keep you posted.

The book calls for a oil change after the 1st 100 miles and every 300 miles afterwards. I think this is resonable.

Amen, I skipped a ride Sunday to take care of this first sevice, had the dealer do all but the fluids and I did the rest, glad I did to, found the front diff barely had any fluid in it. You hit the nail on the head with your "take of your equipment and it will take care of you" statement.
