MSRP is $5500, but there are alot of rebates going on right now. My local dealer is selling them for $4799 right now.

What is MSRP on this bike I couldn't find that information on their website. My father-in-law is looking for a hunting ATV with which he can still have a little fun on!! Thanks in advance for your replies !! Triston

Thanks for the info Boner. What is your take on the 400 4x4 ? Thanks again, Triston

Hey thanks for an honest evaluation on the quads Dakotart. I think for my father-IN-law this maybe a perfect fit. I will keep you posted. Thanks again, Triston

Any other opinions on the 400. I believe we are getting real close to purchasing one. It seems like a real value compared to the $5000 and higher Honda and Polaris brands. Thanks, Triston (primary use will be for hunting and work around the duck club may some trail riding nothing too crazy though)

What is a better deal they are offering a 2 year extended service contract or a warn winch which one is the better value. Thanks Triston

WOW thats what I was hoping you guys would say. I cant count how many times I have needed a winch. But I was really unsure of the reliability of the Cats. Good input I appreciate it !! Thanks Triston

I agree with the other guys-go with the winch. In my opinion, there is no substitute for it's value, of course, I use the hell out of mine. The other thing you have to consider is that AC's are very tough, reliable machines. We bought two 'Cats-mine with the winch, and my Dad's with the extended warranty. On our first trip out, we wished we'd gone with two winches instead of the warranty. I honestly doubt your 'Cat will even need the warranty in the first two years, so basically you'd be giving them the value of the dollar on that one. AC's are tough machines overall, I think you'd be much happier with the winch. Granted, there are lemons in every group, but over the last 5-6 years or so, AC has really made a name for themselves in durability. Just my opinion, Best of luck with the Decision, Mike

when you read the fine print on the extended warranty it really is only 18mo. you get your regular 6mo warranty plus an additional 18mo making a total 2 year warranty. I think the winch deal is better if you will use it but if not the extended warranty would be could incase something happens.

We have an 01 400 and 500 manual. Both are great. I haven't really had a need for the selectable 2wd/4wd that my 500 has. The steering effort is lighter with the 400 than the 500 by a noticeble margin. The 400 does lack some in the power department compared to the 500 but it works very well for my mom and dad and their nonaggressive riding style. I know I've never heard my dad say he wishes he bought the 500 like mine. I think that says alot because we compete with everything else we buy. I bought a Dakota R/T he bought a Dakota Quad Cab with the same 5.9L engine, the list goes on and on. With the rebates and winch deal right now I want to get a third quad for even more fun. I think you are looking at a good deal. Good luck with whatever you decide to purchase. Here is my web site so you can check out our 400 and 500 cats in action. The 500 has the winch. http://lonestar.texas.net/~eeyore/atvhomepage.html Dakotart

You're welcome. Dakota R/T

I have the winch and it has saved my butt a few times. If you could use the winch get it. Chicks dig it on top of that. If not get the extended warranty. I have found a hundred different uses for it. It works well to setup a trot line across a river in the winter or pull barb wire tight. Dakota R/T

winch, no doubt. if you're going to USE that machine, most likley anything that MIGHT go wrong will in the first few months. the machine is pretty bullitproof, no electric gizmos to short out, hehehe. just break it in properly.
