My cousin who works at the AC plant says that the engineers have been messing around with the new 660 cc 4 stroke snowmobile engine in a 500 frame. It only developes 45 hp and right now it's just a toy.

It goes something like this also Cummins Diesel = Dodge truck, Cummins owned by Ford GE television = RCA Proscan Electronics = RCA Hitachi 36inch and smaller TV's = Panasonic Zenith Big Screen TV = Hitachi Zenith regular TV = Goldstar It goes on and on. What we buy is not necessarily built by the same company as the name plate states. I work in the consumer electronics field and I could go on and on with famous brands not made by famous companys.

What kinda sport quad does Arctic Cat have?? Is that what you mean??

Roman, find me an automaker that actually does anything more than assemble parts that are brought in from an outside company. The fact that virtually none of them make anything anymore says nothing. Honda is no different, engine parts are built to their specs but little else. How does that differ from buying proven engine technology from an outside source. Strategic Partnerships are happening everywhere. Honda ATV's are week in many areas, they do buld bullet proof engines, but as far as features go thats where their depth ends. Most ATV Mfgs are building good engines these days. Honda is currently not up to snuff when it comes to features on their overall product line, when compared to the rest of the industry. Cheers Jim

Hell, I thought my AC 500 Auto WAS the sport quad.? Hunting anyway, that's a sport isn't it??? Heh Heh Heh, sorry, couldn't resist. No, AC doesn't make any sport quads as of yet. Who knows what's in the making. Mike

T-Cat: Couldn't agree more buddy! BTW-you stole my line! Heh Heh Heh just kidding, cocked, locked and ready to rock-good one, I use it often up at school-somebody's got to teach all them young college kids the way it's done, if you know what I mean. Just goes to show great minds think alike! Take care, keep 'em coming, you know I'll back ya! Mike

Roman, If you actually go and look at an AC and a Suzuki you see allot of difference. Just sit on each one and you can tell a big difference in the seat alone. a few things the AC has over the Suzuki is better suspension, bigger gas tank, the racks can take more of a load, titian tires, and the heel toe shifter. these are just a few things. compare and you will see a big difference.

Comparing a 250 Suzuki to a 250 AC is like compairing an apple to an orange (both fruits=both suzuki engines),but that is where the similarities end. AC has worlds better suspension, larger frame, larger racks, better seat, better tires... and a bunch more. Go to a dealer and compare. They are not the same machine.

They dont offer any yet. But dont be suprised if they release a new sport quad when Suzuki does. I cant see cat staying out of the sport quad sagment. Espeacily if you look at them in the snowmoble world. they thrive with performance sleds. heck there zr440 can be considered to the snowmobile world what the honda 250r is to the atving world. the zr440 flat out is on top of the mx series year in and year out with few exceptions of skidoo once and awhile. Just my thoughts matty

I think I may have missed something what is the tie in between A.C. and Suzuki.I don't want to sound stupid asking but I don't own either and never knew there was somekind of association.I'm interested in the A.c. 4wd 250 and if it is the same machine basically as the LT250F 4wd I would go for the best price.can you guys tell me what their differences are?

Posted by: spooge

Okay so A.C. uses a suzuki motor but what about the rest of the machine? Is it the same chassis and suspension with A.C. body work or is the chassis exclusive to A.C.I agree with using time tested motors but suzuki has been using the same chassis and suspension for years and I think they could use some updating 3 inches of wheel travel just does not cut it.I am seriously looking at the A.C. 250 4wd and would like to hear more from you guys that own these machines to let me know what you think of the power, handling, reliability and ergonomics of your machines. Thanks for any input.

Anyone?

Yes

ericsraptor, cowboy couldn't have said it better. everybody has their own definition of sport and cowboy and i seem to have the same one. for example, take a top fuel dragster and enter it in a tractor pull that's like expecting a super sport quad (raptor) to be able to efficiently haul a 800 pound elk or a half ton moose out of terrain that would make a horse puke. to me, 55 mph is enough speed for a quad that can perform double duty (sport/utility), unlike the 74.9 mph* raptor which does the sport thing very well but fails on the utility side. i don't give a rat's ass if ac never offers a sport quad it won't change my opinion of them at all. in the auto world, how many new sportscars have been introduced lately? how many suv's? *taken from the december 2000 issue of 4 wheel atv action when they compared the bomb. ds650 and the raptor 660. just a redneck thought, arctic cat 500 4x4 auto always cocked, locked, and ready to rock. texascat

spooge, arctic cat uses suzuki engines. it is along the same lines as chevy putting an isuzu engine in their hd series pickups. time tested engines are so much better than experimental ones. texascat

Posted by: TEXASCAT

roman, well i guess you can't take chevrolet seriously then because they went and put an isuzu engine in their heavy duty diesel pickups. i couldn't agree with chevy more because that 6.5 detroit sucks i just wish they would have considered caterpillar. nothing beats a cat--hey that has a dual meaning don't it. arctic cat 500 4x4 auto always cocked, locked, and ready to rock......any other atv's ass off. texascat.

Why do they bother putting an Arctic Cat sticker on a Suzuki? Is that like what Mercury is to Ford? A sport quad? Maybe they'll get a good motor from Honda. I can't take a company serious until it builds its own thing.
