I'm 32 and I have always rode Honda ATV's and Polaris snowmobiles (well I still do). My Cat just feels more durable than my Honda. I really like my Cat.

I'm 26. I think AC owners are younger for the most part because of their lower price. This allows a 15-20 year old person that is young and doesn't have a huge cash flow to get a 500 class machine for a lot less than those offered by many other manufacturers.
Thats my take on it. The AC was far and away the best value that I found. Still is. Unless you catch the other machines on year end closeout, you are money ahead to go with an Arctic Cat. On top of that, you get a good price on a machine that is built just as good if not better than those that are priced higher.

I am 47 and I bought my cat because I thought it was the best all around for use aroud the house and trail riding, etc.

Hey I was just thinking(dang that hurt) that most of the Arctic Cat owners seem to be in there late 20's or less. So I would just like to test my theroy and get a list of ages by all the Arctic Cat owners.
I'm 16 and I bought my cat when I was 15.

I have been working for my dad since I was 12 years old. I'm a part time plumber. I didn't have enought to pay for my cat so my dad loaned me the money and he takes a payment out when ever I work (like on saturdays, holidays, and all summer) he will normally not take anything out unless it's above a $50 check, so I have an advantage. But on the other hand he has only given me 2 raises in the 4 years I have worked for him. One was he had to( minumim wage went up) and another when a few memebers of the crew I work on went and asked him to give me a raise cause of how hard I work. So, I'm no spoiled brate if anyone thinks that.

I think about everyone but Andy has shattered my hypothesis.

Ok so there are 4 people that are in the bracket I thought would be the most popular.
2 people within 5 years of my estimate and the rest are all between 38 and 63 years of age.
Hey, looks like I should do popularity poles for the government.

No, not at all.
Just joking

The reason the Sportsman didn't make it threw this pit was because they didn't test the Sportsman in this pit. If you go back and look for the review of the 2001 manual they listed the quads that made it and didn't make it threw this pit.

I'm 15 and I want a new ATV, I have looked at every quad maker and I have to say I really like Arctic-cat 400 4x4, I have $5,000. and my parents will pay for half of a new quad. Do you think an AC 400 4x4 is good enough for me????
and BONER I had no clue you were around my age...do you mind telling me how you got the money to pay for your AC 500??
Posted by: ATV_MAN
Well I have money saved up from working for my dad, he is a Carpenter. I will be getting a job soon at a place called Canadian Tire, you Canadian's will know hat store I'm talking about.
Posted by: ATV_MAN
I have a question for you AC owners....What is a good price for a used '98 or '99 AC 400 4x4???(average price) 'cause I think I'll start looking for one of those.

Im 42 and think bang for the buck the cats are a better buy.

Hey, wait a second there Boner, I'm 24, so I think I fit into your theory, though it seems us younger guys are loosing out to all the "old farts" around here! Heh Heh Heh! Actually, I think it's pretty cool to see such a huge variation in the age bracket here, I too wondered about that, though never thought about asking, good one.
Now that I'm back up in Pullman for school, again, I'm kind of the "old fart" up here. Being on average, about 3 years older than the seniors who are graduating this year, it makes it kind of difficult to find a woman. Not that there's a shortage, by any means, just that every time you turn around, seems you find out they're all at around 5 years younger or so, kind of makes it tough, if you know what I mean.
As for the reasons I bought the 'Cat, well, it just fit me better than the rest. That, and it was different, not everybody and their dog owns one, and they're just a damn good machine. Price was lower than everything else I was looking at, and my dealer is great. Couldn't have made a better decision.
Just thought I'd squeeze one more in for your hypothesis,
Mike

Hey, good to see ya back!, For a while anyway, better get out and find a few more deer! Hey, drop a nice big buck for me, if ya would, my luck hasn't been so good lately. I could have harvested a couple various 3 pts (we go by number of tines on one antler out here, 3 pt. minimum by law), but then found a huge buck, whose antlers looked like a big bush from far away. Tracked him for 4-5 more canyons in the pouring rain and fog, was setting up for a shot, and the fog got to thick to see, by the time it lifted, they were all gone, and so were my chances-at least till late hunt anyway. I leave for elk hunting on the 25th, and will return on the 5th of Nov., so hopefully it will fare a little better. Late deer will open again on Nov. 11th-19th, for whitetail only. Who knows, maybe I'll find one then. Whether I shoot one or not, I love the outdoors, riding my 'Cat, and the thrill of the hunt, so either way, I'm happy, though it would be nice to put some meat on the table, if you know what I mean!

Hey, congrats on the new machine! Surprised to hear about the thoughts of trading the SP for a 'Cat, though I guess in comparison feature to feature, it's about a toss-up between the SP and the 'Cat. Definately couldn't go wrong with either, in my book.
Best of luck with your new 'Cat, and good luck with the hunt!

Well im 17 so theres another point for you. I bought my AC 454 in 99 and love it. The reason i bought it was mainly because i got a great deal on it and didnt have even close to enough money to buy a honda (AC and Honda are the only two brands I even considered.) I got more than i expected actually. I was dissapointed that i didnt get a honda but now im glad I got my AC they are the best quads made. Did you guys read that shootout between the AC 500 and the bombardier traxter? I am shocked that AC kept up in the mudhole. And to stir things up a little i didnt see the Sportsman as one of the quads that made it through the mudhole. What a pity.

AC 454 the original big cat.

Well Boner, I am 49 and my wife is 47 and we both have ACs. We went with the ACs for most of the same reasons.

Hi i'm 15 and have the cat 300 4x4.well my dad baught it becouse we'd gotten the suzuki for x-mas and he was sick of us fighting about it so he said he'd get us another.after considering EVERY other brand we were desideing between the Kinq Quad, AC 300 or Explore then due to the gear trannies we limited it to the KQ and AC from there the choice was easy the cat was $$$600 less than the suzuki and it blew it away in comfort, dependablity, and suspention. So we got the Cat and haven't regretted it at all and we are considering one more for my dad so we make it a family sport.

Value for the dollar is also the reason why we purchased our Cats. I am 33 & my Dad is 60. My family owned AC snowmobiles in the early 70's and the reasons were the same way back then.

I am 49 and my wife is 54. I ride a 500 gear and my wife rides a 500 auto. I narrowed the selection to the Sportsman 500 and the Arctic Cat 500 gear pretty quick when I was making the decision back in 99. A friend of mine brought home a Sportsman, and to keep up with the Jones' I had to bring something home. I selected the Arctic Cat due to how it is put together. It(in my opinion)is built much heavier than the Sportsman. I grew up on a farm and have had to do my own maintenance since I was a pup, so lack of twenty some grease zerks came into play. The clincher was the Video that Arctic Cat dealers have showing the various manufacturers' and the Arctic Cat going over the Belgium road course and a rockpile. It shows the suspensions working. It also shows how much of the roughness in the road is transmitted to the rider. I your question about age of my local dealership. His reply is representitive of the replies you are receiving in this survey. He is located in Hesston KS, a small agricultural community thirty miles north of Wichita. Since the mean age of farmers is increasing this tilts it somewhat.

I'm 42 and my wife is 41. My brother is 41 too. Together we own three new AC 500s.
I chose Arctic Cat because of my familiarity with their snowmobiles, heavy duty construction and the price. I did careful research and it seemed to me that AC has the best utility class machine on the market.
Had I been in the market for a pure sport machine AC might not have been my first choice. But, it fits my style like a glove.

Greetings Boner:
I may spoil your theory. I'm almost 63 and my hunting partner is 56, and after months of research, riding various machines, sometimes several times, and talking with other owners we both recently purchased 2001 Artic Cat 500's. We just liked them the best, and money was not a factor, we could have bought any make, but A/C met our needs and we just like the way they feel and handle. I purchase a standard transmission and my hunting partner a automatic. I got the winch and 26 " mud bug tires.

well Im a young one too at 19 . The main reason was price. I looked at other makes and models, such as SP500 and the 450es & s. My thoughts where the honda road like a lumber wagon and felt down on power all for alot more money then the ac. while on the other hand the SP 500 road great ,had great power. BUt the dealers around here wanted almost 7000 for them while I got my ac 500 with the winch for 5300. that lot of #@$%@^& mods I can do for the price difference. And I also wanted somthing else that not many people had. around my area sp500 are a dime a dozen. I think I made the right pick. One of the main things that I see the sp500 has over the cat is the anti sway bar in the back. I have been tinking around in the shop the last couple of nights. And im trying to build one for the cat. what do you guys think about that idea? well i actually have a day off so Im going riding.

Well, I kind of fit in the middle. 30 years old and just bought 2001 AC 500 auto hunters edition. This quad is unbelievable. Previously owned quadrunner 500, liked it fine but just not the machine the AC is. Father owns 500 Sportsman, and after seeing and riding mine wants to sell his. Price was great. $6700 included warn winch, gun scabbard and mounting bracket, rack bags, advantage camouflage cover made especially for the machine. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
