I disagree. I'd recommend someone turn off the faces only for the reason they don't like them. As far as turning them off because it's slowing down the page download that's not necessarily true. Graphics get stored in your web browser's cache on your local PC. Therefore, once you've viewed the image it's not downloaded again. So it may slow down the page on your first visit but after that its cached and so they won't make any difference in the page speed at all. The only caveat is if you don't come here often and they purge from the cache or if you have a very small cache setting in your browser.
For those people who didn't know graphics are cached on your local pc....it's a great way to see if your kids have been visiting porn sites because all the images will still be on your pc. Some interesting things can sometimes be found in the cache!

The faces are a joke. You can turn them off in the customize screen where it says "If you are on a slow connection, choose the Standard Graphics mode to decrease download times."
With the faces ON the download size of page in the Polaris section was: 258K (way too large for a web page)
With the faces OFF the download size of in the Polaris section was: 123K(still too large but better)
So not only are they intended for a younger audience, the page will download faster without them.
This will also turn off some other extra graphics that are not needed.

Dave, there are a ton of variables here....cache size, frequency of using this site, usage on the Internet, settings in the browser. The statement I made will eliminate all these variables. I do this for a living and I was simply trying to offer some advice.
