There's a place close to Kermit, Monahans I think.
I've heard a lot of people go there now instead of Kermit.
I'll see if I can dig up the directions.
Welcome to the forums xerkie.

Ok, just talked to someone that lives out that way. This is what he told me.
Actually, Monahans is off limits to ATVs. You can't ride there. I usually go to Crane which is at the junction of 1053 and 1233. You can turn south off of I-20 onto 1053 about 20-25 miles west of Odessa. It's the Ft. Stockton exit, a big overpass in the middle of nowhere. You can't miss it. Just be sure to park North of 1233. There's a guy that will run you off of the south side lease roads.
There is another person that still rides at Kermit. When I hear from them, I'll pass that info on here.

Well, I always have my own.
Got some info on riding at Kermit.
They said to go to westteaxasduners.com and pm SandDoctor.
You will probably have to register, but they probably got some good info on that site.

I think they have a camping area (pad) but if I recall them talking about it, it wasn't a large area.

Mostly the problems sound like form the KSI people.
That's kinda why I suggested the other place. (Crane)
Got a few folks that live out that way that I talk to pretty regularly here and on another site. They seem to have the same opinion, as well as quite a few others I've seen.
Also notice those post concerning the issues were back in 06.
Still another person out that way that would know the good places to go, just haven't seen them here the past two days. Who knows, they may be out there riding.
I'll post more info when I get to talk to them.
In the meantime, I think with what you have from here would be enough to go out and have a good ride.

We are going there this weekend. $7 per day to ride $3 extra to stay the night. 8 water and electric hookups for rv's and a new parking area. The old one was covered up by sand and the picnic tables destroyed by the city.
That part is fenced off now from the rest of the park.
Waivers have to be signed and helemts and flags are enforced so it keeps the local beer drinking no shirt wearing 3 year old kid on banshee riff-raff outta there!

Did they run out of bullet proof vests in Kermit?

I did the search, and there haven't been any new posts since like March 2006 about Kermit Sand dunes in Texas. So whats the news on the place? I just moved from the northwest and am used to the gaint dunes of St. Anthony's, Idaho and the awesome coastal dunes of Oregon. I'm planning a trip to check it out in a week and I'm ust looking at updated info. I went to the Kermit Sandhills website and it's copyright is 2006, so I'm assuming it hasn't been updated either. The 7 dollars is no issue (if you've been to the bigger popular places, then paying $7 is no issue). Any new info is good.....Thanks in advance!!!
