The iron range off road park in Gilbert is a lot of fun for a weekend. There are rock piles, 2 mud holes (one built for ATVs and one for trucks but ATVs can go in it), hill climbs, tight trails and so on. Its free and they have a wash station so you can blast out your radiator after the mud holes. There are also a bunch of unofficial trails around the park but your better off finding a local to guide you on those. I have a few pics from there on my picture page. If your looking for a cheap place to stay close to the park, check out Koke's motel. It was like $35 a night and clean. We rode to the park from there but I am not too sure we were suposed to do that. We got stopped by a DNR officer and we told him were we were going and he didn't say anything but that was a few years ago...

I got it from www.fourstroketech.net but its a lot of trouble for a little performance gain- you can PM me if you want some details on it...

Don't waste your time on the Dead Horse- the DNR came through and filled it all in with gravel. Its just like a road now!!

The Iron county trails in Wi can be fun if you hit it after a bunch of rain but on the flip side if its been dry its going to be really dusty. There is some mud up there but again the DNR is on patrol in that area too draining, filling, fencing, and signing the muddy areas....

Hey Mud Puppy where did you get your 331cc big bore kit from? Our 02 cat 300 could use the extra power.
Anyways I like the Red Top the one way trails back through the woods are challengeing, now theres not alot of them and I dont know what there like this year because they usually fill in the mud holes.

So I am looking for a trail that offers some diversity not just a gravel road. Anyone know of any trails left that have some winding paths not roads through the woods and also has some mud/water holes to go through and possibly get stuck in? I haven't had my ATV out on trails like that in about 3 years after my riding buddy moved to AK from up in Big Fork. Went over to Danbury once last year but that was nice but still didn't offer much for diversity, wonderful for 2wd sport quads but not for 4 wheel drive ATV's.
Seems like the greenies/whatevers have gotten the local/state/whomever's to section of any parts of the trails that offer anything other than a gravel road to ride on.
Thanks....

Sweet. Thanks for the heads up on that trail system. I'll have to plan a trip over there in June and check it out.

Thanks for the heads up. Same old DNR wrecking everyone's sports. Guess there is not enough other land for everyone else they have to destroy atv trails now by filling them in. Good job WI DNR!!!!!!!! :-(

Just got back from the Spider Lake area and it was FANTASTIC. Alot of diversity in the trails. The only bad thing I will say is how the best mud holes are blocked off. Still can't believe we aren't able to have some mud areas open for riding. The DNR and enviro wackos wonder why people go off trail to find mud holes, maybe if they had some along the trails that were legal then we wouldn't see such a large issue (in their minds not mine).
Anyways I will be back there many more times. Heading up for the weekend of June 30th with a small group, I believe. Very fun!!!!!

Nope, I don't think so. We did not hit everywhere out there but I will be back up there on the 30th. Looks like Saturday will be by myself and Sunday with a small group. Anyone going to be there on Saturday or Sunday let me know. I'll be camping there somewhere. Little overkill with a 30' camper for myself but 'ya know.

Any of you guys try running out to Moose Lake? The Soo Line and Munger trail run through there. The Soo Line is mainly a railroad bed, but there are some branch offs that have some gravel/sand pits with some terrible hill climbs !!! If you have big enough, man hangers, then you'll like some of these climbs!! My friend and I rode there on sunday, (my scrammy and his raptor 700), and we had a blast. The climbs are tall and range from slight angle to I can't believe I'm making it up alive!! Some of the branch offs have some mud holes, rips through the woods, a stream/river crossing next to the trail. The DNR hasn't taken all of the fun stuff away there yet!!! Another spot is the Chengwatana State Forrest trails, rated as difficult. There are some mud holes, and the trails are all throught the woods, a little dusty, some small rocks on the trail (rideable with a sport quad). there are no hill climbs on the marked trails that I have found yet....
