Any weekend I am not riding somewhere else, I ride the trails behind Lake Arrowhead. Love the challenge of that narrow woods trail stuff......which we have precious little of it here in the southland! I ride the Rancher 4X4 in winter when there is snow (great snow riding up there sometimes!), and the 400EX when the trails are clear. We stage from Miller Canyon near Silverwood Lake, and ride up the fire roads to Pinnacles staging area and pick up the trails there.

If there are some of you who have never been, I would be glad to be a guide for your first ride.

Posted by: reconranger

We went to Spangler Hills/Trona Pinnacles on Saturday. http://forums.atvconnection.com/messageview.cfm/catid/27/threadid/513663.cfm

Sunday, did oil changes and maintenance all day!

Posted by: reconranger

We are doing Ocotillo the weekend of the 24th. Might do a quick Miller Canyon ride this weekend or maybe the 17th.

Looks like the weather is going to be to hot this weekend for anywhere in the desert!

Posted by: reconranger

We decided to do Ocotillo last minute. Actually wasn't to bad if you were in the shade or moving on the quad.

Will probably do a quick Miller Canyon this weekend if anyone is interested in that........

Posted by: reconranger

Saturday later morning or very early afternoon looks good for me. Should be cooler this weekend! You take hwy 138 east past Silverwood Lake, then turn left at the sign that says "Miller Canyon Unit". Then immediately turn right onto a dirt road (2N37), and there are two staging areas up a couple hundred yards. I like the second one, because it has more room for trailers. You will need an Adventure Pass for parking, or risk a ticket.

The lower portion of the ride is semi-rough faster fire roads, then up on top (behind Lake Arrowhead) it turns into fun but challenging 50" wide woods "quad single track". Mostly semi-technical, but full-on technical in a couple of spots. Definitely not suitable for beginners. It's about a 2+ hour ride if you go all the way to the Deep Creek bridge.

E-mail me at reconranger@adelphia.net anyone who is interested.

How about 10:00 Saturday morning?????

I have the choice of taking the Rancher and going looking for some the more technical trails, or the 400EX and avoiding the more nasty stuff. It can all be done with 2wd, but in the more technical stuff it is "nice" to have 4wd here and there. What do you all think??? What are you up for???

Anybody else???? All are welcome!

Posted by: reconranger

So, then we can make it a technical trail adventure! In that case, if we have time we can try the section of 3N34 between Deep Creek and Crab Flats.....lots of big rocks!

Posted by: reconranger

Post a few of the pictures!

Hun, if you PM me, I will give you contact info for my buddy who lives near you. He is still recovering from his MX accident, but his wife hasn't ridden in a very long time and she wants to get back into it, so that might make a good match for you guys seeing your wife is just getting started.

Doing the Inyo Mountains and Sierras in the spring/early summer......don't miss those rides!

Do you guys with 4wd's want to plan a Calico trip soon before the desert gets so hot it is unbearable???? The canyons are highly technical rock crawling stuff! Somebody suggest some dates........

Good pics. Did you guys make it down to Devils Hole? That last pic looks like it. That is a fun place to go when it is hot out. You can ride there and then swim!

Posted by: HappywithVForce

Hey Tracy,
Have you found the dunes out there yet? They are worth riding to (if you like sand). My now favorite place in Johnson Valley is the Boone Rd. entry. It is east of Bessemer Mine road. There are some large sand areas to ride. And the lakebed is full of old bomb craters. They are fun to jump. I went to El Mirage last weekend, so I have to work around the house this weekend. Have fun!

Posted by: atvtracy

johnson valley is off of the 18 and the 247 off of camp rock road. it is a great place to ride. from that area you can ride to anderson dry lake, soggy dry lake, and a day trip can take you to slash X. there are million of trails up there. there are also bathrooms. we will be going out saturdayand coming home sometime on monday.

Posted by: atvtracy

Hay happy long time no talk. We found the dunes out there they are great we had a good time riding to them to. That's a fast fun trail. We went in right at the middle on time and trail gets kind of rocky, but fun. There are a lot of geo-cashes out there. We will be out there for thanksgiving; we have to meet up again sometime, now that my husband can ride again. Have a great weekend!

Posted by: TheHun

Whats up.
I know most of you love your dunes. But who love those trails, Lets get some some good trail riders together for some future rides this season. If your in SoCal, post your up coming rides here and lets go riding.

Posted by: TheHun

Reconranger,
I took your advise from your posts here and thumpertalk. Im new to the quads but not to 4-wheeling. Millers canyon was great, I was only there for about 3 hours but had a great time starting to explore the trails.
********By the way were you guys up there this past Saturday around 10am...I past 2 guys one on a Honda the other I didnt see, around the Sewage plant near the top. I was rinding my Polaris 500x2 red.

Reconranger, all riders,

I was planning on going riding in Millers Caynon the weekend of the 17th or 24th wanted to see if there would be any takers to join or ride with???

Posted by: TheHun

Sat or Sun would be great ....Open all day.
What time at the trailhead?

Posted by: TheHun

Sorry guys Sat 17th or 18th...

Posted by: TheHun

I'm game for Sat. morning or early afternoon
LA90043 are you going to join in the morning or afternoon??
Reconranger...what time in the AM. I am only 15 min away so anytime for me is good.
For future ref I'll be in a Silver F150 Ext cab / red Polaris 500x2

Posted by: TheHun

Reconranger, LA90043,

10:00am sounds great. I got a 4x4 and would love to push to see what it could do, so I'm game for the technical stuff. Dont mind a couple of war wounds on the plastic or belly.

LA90043,
The Adventure Pass you can get on the way up, at Sports Chalet in Rancho Cucamonga just off the 15 freeway. The address is 12449 Foothill Blvd, Rancho Cuc. 909-987-4321. They open on Sat at 9:00am so you could be in Silverwood by 10-10:15am easy.
The Adventure Pass is $5/day or the better bet is $30/year. Sports Chalet is in the corner next to the 15 Freeway in the same Shopping Center as Living Spaces....
Is your quad 4x4????

Posted by: TheHun

Recon & LA,

First off.....Sorry I bailed so fast without saying Thanks and Goodbye. I was later then I thought and had to jet.....

Next. Recon Thanks for guiding the way, it was a blast...I got to see a lot of the Mountains and had some great people to ride with. Hope to ride with you guys again .
By the way, the way out the ride was 23.5 miles to the trail head @ Millers Canyon...all in all I would say about 50-60 miles max.

Lastly. I think I did some damage to my thumb helping that guy on the dirt bike...It is almost the size of a golf ball and I can barely move it. War Wound to remember the ride.

Till next time,
Attila

Oak Hills east? where's that?
I'm in Santa Monica,.....westside,...you know,..where the debris meets the sea,......I haven't picked up my ride yet, and I,..uh,.....have never even ridden one. SO I think I will have to do a few solo missions to adjust. I have ridden mx / 3 wheelers / I own a couple of PWC's that haul a**, mountain bikes, skateboards, I still snowboard really well, etc,...so I know what back country / trail riding is,...just never on a quad. I swore off motorcycles awhile ago when I crashed real bad,...I'm a decent all around rider I think,.....have done lots of Mammoth area stuff,....can you say loose Shale?
Hun,..If WD 40 didn't taste so bad, I'd brush my teeth with it. hahahaha. I have to go to Mexico tomorrow for a few days, (I'm building a house just South of Puerto Nuevo near the sand dunes), so I'm out for probably a couple of weeks. If you, or anyone else wants to ride in the future, (and hopefully be patient, I'll buy lunch, whatever), I'd be super happy to go with some experienced riders. That would be super cool. My other buddies all ride mx, (and we're all over 40!!!) a few of them have had the helicopter ride if you know what I mean. Not for me thanks,.....I don't bounce anymore,..I just go splat.
So, if you, or anyone else knows of anyplace easy to ride so I can get a feel for my ride when i get it,..please PM me,.... Thanks, Steve

90043, I'm thinking of the raptor 700 SE, Blue / White. The local Yammy dealer guy is a friend of a friend and said $7100 OTD. I researched quite a bit and think that is a pretty good deal. I will go out there,..funny, we have a new job just starting at the Valencia Mall right now, so that sounds perfect. I'm class of 81, Olympic High,..they kicked me out of Samohi,.....I was a misguided youth. I will also go play in the sand a bit at my place in Mex. You can ride your ATV on the streets near my house down there and I know all the local cops, so they'll probably want to ride it too. I'm in for riding with you and others for sure. I may be playing down my abilities a little, but I'd rather be safe than broken,..........I may go down on Wednesday so I can pick up my ride tomorrow. Unless you know a different dealer ?ps: Do you have additional insurance over the liability required? I got a quote for around 680 for the full deal. $76 for just liability. Any thoughts on that? Oh, $500 deductible. Thanks, Steve

Posted by: Travelboysteve

You guys are giving me the biggest riding jones,...it's killing me,...lol,.....a few loose ends at work and abroad, (Mex house) and I'm so there. Thanks for the tip on dealership. I will definitely check them out......I figure by this weekend I should have the machine, maybe spin it around a little, but I want to add a few things before I actually go out on it. Things like tool kit holder, heel guards, etc.

Tracy, my wife and I will be there probably Sat. We're putters, but will look you up. We may still only have 1 unit, but I might spring for a new Suzi 250 for her as a surprise. Steve
we're in a smoke Titan, with a tree sticker, (Arbor) in the back window, we have a white 700 raptor,.....

Posted by: Travelboysteve

Hey ATVTracy,
Sorry for the delay,..work was cutting into my week,.....I think we're going up early Sat,......BUT, we can always go back Sunday if we end up leaving before you get there,..I bet my wife won't complain. You should've seen the smile on her face when i told her about her surprise. We got her the Suzi 250 and she loves it. I rode it and it's pretty nice,....
She is really new to the sport, I'm rusty, but was blasting around road runner? I think it's called, then bombed down into the wash,....OMG I love my Rappy.
Are you guys really good at riding? I would hate to slow anybody down, but We think it would be cool to hook up with some new people regardless. We're sort of social butterflies like that. We'll also have "Boomer" our faithful Black lab, 7 months, and 62 lbs of pure love. PM me if you get this and I'll send you my email if you like or cell #,....anyone else want to come,......come on down,.......my wife and I are seriously hooked on this stuff, you don't have to wait for calm waters like jet skis, etc,.......over and out.
Hey Recon,.......when I think I can hang, I wouldn't mind doing some technical stuff if it is makeable in 2wd, I love that stuff on my Mtn bike,..I'm rambling and threadjacking,...sorry guys,.....I'm amped,....what can I say???????????
