Anyone else get a letter from the state about having to register their atv's? Looks like it will be about 20 bucks for each (got 4). Supposed to be stickered to ride in state areas. (and where might these be?)
Wouldn't mind doing it if they had state owned parks to ride in. Hopefully, if they do they will model it after Lake Murray.

They won't put the land there in Grand Praire because of the noise issues. Not so much for people, but the horse track. But that would be a good area for it.

And they shut down the remote control airfield down by Camp Wisdom Road. Just to build more houses, I'm sure. I'll bet a nice little mx track would be more popular than the skate park (that seems to be empty all the time).
But remember when they were thinking about putting the drag strip on 30? Got shot down because of noise issues. Doesn't matter there already is one on Jefferson.
Sadly, it's all politics. And from my experience of having my toy hauler 2 inches over the sidewalk, and getting a citation it's not gonna change soon.

Thanks, rdeeno.

I have not been on here that long but I am a Texas rider as well from Grand Prairie. We are always looking for new places to ride. Too bad Texas does not catch on like Oklahoma & make some state parks to allow ATV's. All Texas knows how to do is complain that their parks are going broke. DUH just add some ATV trails & watch them grow. Do yall have any favorite places to ride? We go to Lake Murray ATV park & Muenster. When we have time we go to Little Sahara State Park in Waynoka Ok. We may try Sulpher River Trails this coming weekend in East Texas. Also plan to try out Rural Shade as well. We have a couple of four wheelers but they usually sit idle since we just bought a Yamaha Rhino 660. It is a blast.

We are planning our first outing/trail riding/camping with our Rhino. We are seriously considering Mud Creek Off-Road Park near Jacksonville, TX. Website says 3,700 acres of trails, plus lots of camping areas and support facilities. Any comments will be appreciated.
Mud Creek Off-Road Park
Some of our friends are planning to be there for New Years. They tell me the place is very fun. I think it will be too cold for me though. I am a summer kind of person. If it is cold I want to be dry, not muddy & wet.

Try Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area in NE Texas. About 1,800 ATV acres.

Thank you for the suggestion. We went to Rural Shade ATV Park in Kerens a couple of weeks ago. It was fun & we plan to go again soon. The trails are wide enough for the Rhino's. Some of the trails by the river are shut down for hunting season but we found some trails to ride away from the river. They are supposed to have a big New Years Eve ATV Rodeo along with a live band. Sounds fun but it is supposed to be cold outside for New Years Eve so I guess we will miss that and find something indoors to do.

Terry, Good luck with the wife. I hope she likes it. I love ours & try to drive it whenever I can talk my husband into riding with me driving. We have had four wheelers for a long time but I love this side by side. We went to the dunes in Waynoka Oklahoma ( Little Sahara State Park) with it for Thanksgiving. That was a blast.

I would love to live in Oklahoma myself. Some of my husbands family is in Woodward & most were raised in Snyder & still own two farms in Snyder. You have to be real careful in the dunes. I think I have seen ambulances there every trip we have made. People fly over the dunes & land wrong on the bottom of the other side, or hit head on with someone coming up the other side. You just have to be very careful & watch for the orange flags that you are required to have on the ATV's. We went through the sand pretty good with the stock tires on the Rhino but we did have to go to 4 WD at times. We have paddles on the ATV's because none of ours are 4WD.

I have not got one yet. I hope I don't either. The only state parks I know of to ride in are in Oklahoma. But you know how the government loves to tax our lives.

We ventured out to Pool Ranch last summer during one of their events. We did not have our toys with us , we were just out running around in that area & happened upon it. It was pretty crowded & looked to be very fun from what we could see. Since we did not have the toys we could only see some of the area that was used for primitive camping. They told us they are only open a few times a year for special events. I have seen a lot of land that I thought should be opened up for State run atv parks. Texas is way behind in this area though. Grand Praire has the land that used to be Lion Country Safari. If they would open that up as a State Park for ATV's it would get a lot of business I am sure. It may cut out all the dumping that some people are doing out there as well. Some of the paved roads are still there that they used to drive through the park. They would make great trails. There is also land around Joe Pool Lake that could be used. Does anybody have any pull in Grand Praire that might bring this up to the right people to get this done??

I realize there are some noisy quads, but the traffic from Beltline is just as noisy. Especially with all those big trucks on that road everyday. There are also several businesses around there that are pretty noisy as well. I also know there are a lot of street bikes up & down Beltline that are noisier than a lot of quads. They may use that excuse for some people but I have been up & down that road too many times to go for that one. Grand Prairie has a real problem with letting people have fun. We used to help run a radio controlled car track & it got a lot of kids off the street & out of trouble but they shut down the track because the AA group complained about the noise from our loudspeakers. I think the real reason was the city was not getting the money for that track. The football games are a lot louder than our speakers were. Of course they are city run functions though.

Barbara, Thanks for the quick reply. I am of the same opinion. I have no desire to be cold, especially wet & cold. I was thinking about early March, for our first try. They have a national meet scheduled for the last weekend in March. I am planning on trying to be there the week before or two weeks before. My wife does not enjoy being in large groups, so I am hoping the weather will be moderate/tolerable and the park will be more lightly populated before this big event. I need this to work as I will be riding alone afterwards, if it does not.

I'm looking forward to riding at Waynoka. We are moving (retiring) to just a few miles southwest of Waynoka in 2009. My wife's family all lives in the area. Now that I have the Rhino, I will take it along and have something to occupy my time during visits this next two years. From reading the various forums, Little Sahara seems very popular. The last time I rode in the sand was in 1968 and that was a trials event (on a 150cc m/c) in Wisconsin. I vaguely recall burying the front wheel , after cresting the top of a hill, then going headfirst down about a 700 foot drop off......(and eating a lot of sand). Hopefully, the Oklahoma dunes will be a bit easier to negotiate.

There is a place northeast of Athens, that is open in the spring/summer only. I believe its called Pool Ranch. My family has a small dairyfarm that I want to go riding in this weekend, but looks like it will be very muddy (along with what the cows leave behind) Purdis Creek would make a good Texas State riding park. Some are to small.

Go to www.tpwd.state.tx.us, on the Parks and Dest. site there is an Offroad section. It talks about a sticker and some future plans with some phone no's. Didn't have time to check out yet, I was booking a trip for spring break. I will check later.
