I was wondering the same thing. I hope that someone has some info on when this thing is going to open up to the public. It will probably be about a 3 hour drive for me, but from what I have read, it should be worth it. If anyone has any inside info, let us know!!!!!!

From what I seen from the local people down in the area, Clinton put a freeze on it. The local authorites are taking steps to ensure its a WALKING OR HIKING Trail only. I do know the locals are still working on completing the trail. Now I pray that the land owner's allow Us to ride the trail as well. The similiar thing happened here in PA. We had a Rails to Trails program. 518 miles of abandoned Tracks were converted to trails. Once they were groomed and prepared, The DCNR came and claimed them as theirs. Now no motorized vehicles can ride...

What ever happened to the Hatfield-McCoy Trail, have not seen anything recently here. Anyone know anything about it, is it still under way or has Clinton gotten to it? Traxter 99

The Hatfields-McCoy Trail has a planned opening in the fall of 2000. There have already been test rides in 50 mile sections that have been completed This is not on forest land, it does not fall under the Nat'l Forest Service what so ever it is run by the Hatfield McCoy Trail Scouts and the state of WV funding. Clinton can do nothing to this. This trail started as a ORV and horse trail that is allowing hiking. Now the trails to rails thing. That programs was never intended for motorized vehicles. That is being addressed in certin sections of the system. You need to get the facts before you start posting, rumers help no one.

I hope everyone remembers to take care of this place. Pack Your Trash and if you find trash when you are stoped pick it up (unless it's just to scummy). I take out twice the trash I take in anywhere I go riding. It only takse seconds to pick up a few peices of trash. Wayne B

Box 65 Charleston, WV 25321 ask and they will send you the 3 brochures and a decal of the Trail Scouts for your atv or Truck. This year, they will have 2 more test rides, one a Mountain Bike, other is equistrian as they did the test ride for atv's 1st in Oct of 99. This year in October of 2000,,they will open the 1st 300 miles of 2000 miles of easy to extremely difficult riding up for the public to use.
