at least Tri-County doesn't shut down on Nov. 1 like most of the other trails. Getting tired of watching the DS sit in the shed. I gotta get that steering stem fixed, replace the clutch plates, and throw some new tires on there.

whats up miinesota guys!!!!!! whos all in clubs?? where to ride in the winter i know there alot of lakes lol

Posted by: klier

Yup, but I know it's private property. One of the guys on this board (BlackRaptor) had talked to the owner and got permission, so we have been out there a few times. It's a pretty good time, but without BlackRaptor being around (the guy with permission), I don't feel too comfortable venturing down there by myself. There are a few pics in my Photo Page from there...

I always seem to be at Tri-County at about 10 in the morning (later now that it's getting colder), and I'm usually there until at least 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Maybe you are getting out there just a little later than I am.

I'll be out at Tri-County again this Saturday, probably at about 11 a.m. There is a small little dirt bike area just down the road, and a friend of mine with a YZ250 will be riding over there at about 2 p.m. Sounds like the weather is going to be great again!

We're always looking for more people to ride with down in this area. We'll have to meet up sometime at Tri-County. As soon as Mr. Chad (BlackRaptor) gets up enough balls to get his dirt bike out again (Do you hear me, Chad?), hopefully we'll be making trips to Summit again in the future...

I have not been able to reach Ray Trahan, the contact person for Tri-County, but you can try to call him at 507-332-8901. I would be interested to know what the timeline for expansion is on the pit myself.

Also, the latest I've heard is that great things are about to happen over at Bauer's Pit! I have been in contact every week with a group that is looking at purchasing Roy's property, and it looks like there is a green light. More on that as things get formalized. With some luck and a lot of hard work, we could be riding at Bauer's again next summer...

Chris,

Did you ever get a hold of Trahan? If not, I can try to place a call out there sometime maybe on Friday.

There was quite a crowd at the pit on Saturday last week. Dave with the modified Banshee and his son Joe with the Raptor 660 were out there. Several other utility quads came and went. I stayed for about 6 hours, and now my back is paying for it so far this week...

I sure hope to be out there this weekend. I'm thinking probably Saturday early afternoon. My back has been sore since riding last Saturday, so I'm trying to nurse that back into shape. Are you thinking about being out there? I might be able to pull Adam (he's on the board I think) from Owatonna to come on over with his Raptor 660.

Let me know...

Sounds good. Maybe see you guys out there!

Good to meet your acquaintance out at the pit today, Chris. I'm tempted to make it over to the pit again next weekend if the weather stays decent, even though my brain tells me that I probably shouldn't test fate again. Heheh.

By the way, Chris:

Here's a video of when the Scrammy really has the hammer down. Thanks Rick Ritter!

Hey Chris,

I was out at Tri-County on Friday, and Mr. Trahan himself, the owner of the pit, was down there with the bulldozer. Adam and I talked to him, and the future expansion of the pit IS INDEED going to be on the other side of the big sand hill near the row of hill climbs. Ray said there is some delay on the DNR's side, but the plan is to have the new area open by next summer.

Oh, by the way, we talked him into removing SOME of the rocks. Ray said that some rocks will need to be there to prevent erosion I guess. We do have one nice path near the two small jumps that is rock free now!

Did you brave the elements and head out to the pit on Saturday?

Tri-County Pics from Friday (Including proof the bulldozer gets used, haha)

I had it for a short run out at my parents house on Saturday, and I think i discovered it's mostly the ball joint on that right side. It's not good. There must be a half inch of play when you rock the tire forward and backward. Looks like it couldn't have happened at a better time tough ... this snow looks like it could do away with most fast pit riding for the year.

Before next spring, I'll get everything back together, and will probably be heading out to the pit again in April. If this is a big snow year, I just might have to buy a newer sled and play with that for a while... heheh

I know I'll keep the Scrammy, but I've had my eye on a KFX700 ever since I rode one out at Tri-County. I would probably not buy a first model year Polaris of any type :-)

Believe it or not, I have a 1981 Ski-Doo Citation 2500 that I got a long time ago. That's it, for a sled. That was back when we still got snow in Minnesota. That thing is absolutely no fun after buying the Scrambler, and sure as hell is no fun after riding a modified Scrambler. I've got plenty of friends looking to sell their sled for cheap, so I suppose I could always go THAT route...

*yawn* Excuse me, you just woke me up from my hibernation. I wasn't supposed to wake up until April, when the weather gets warm and I'm riding every weekend again...

I'm part of a small club in Southern Minnesota that's main purpose right now is to give ATV Safety Trainings. Otherwise, I usually ride with a group of guys at Tri-County ATV Pit, Spider Lake, and Birchwood, WI, as well as a few other local areas. Most of our group are sport riders, with the exception of the Birchwood crew, which are almost exclusively utility riders.

Tri-County is open all year, although judging from your picture pages, you're not going to have much fun here with a utility quad. You know about Iron Range, and I'm sure they are open through the winter. Other than that, ditches are about it!

Now you know why I'm hibernating...

Klier,
I took a look at the pictures you have of the Summit pit. That place looks like a lot of fun. I was reading your recap of the summer on your blog and I'm really surprised I never ran into you at the Tri-County Pit. I was down there every other weekend this summer. I'm still hoping to get down there one more time this year. I have yet to find someone that can tell me where they are going to expand the pit. Do you know where they are planning to expand?

Posted by: ATC83

My brother and I typically don't get down to the pit until about 2:00, that's probably why I never run into you down there. I would like to go riding with you guys from the connection some time. It's great to hear that something might be happening at Bauers pit. I talked to him back in September and he was saying that the county was really giving him a hard time about letting people ride in the pit again. It would be a tragedy to loose Bauers pit as a riding area. Keep us posted on what is going on.

I wanted to go down to the Tri-County Pit so bad on Saturday. I new there would be a lot of people there with such nice weather. Unfortunately I ended up going to a Halloween party that one of my wife&39;s relatives put on. The party was a lot of fun but I still would have rather been riding. I sure hope the Trahan's are able to get the pit expanded by next summer. I wish I new what there plans were because I would be happy to give them a hand getting the new area ready.

Klier,
Are you going to go riding at the Tri-County Pit this weekend?

Posted by: ATC83

I'm going to try and be there Saturday afternoon unless it's raining.

Posted by: ATC83

That's one hell of a moto you ran in that video. Your the only one I know that runs a Scrambler wound flat out. It was nice to finally meet up with you down at the pit. I'm up for another ride this weekend. If the weather holds out my brother and I will probably be at the pit around 2:00 on Saturday.

My brother and I went Saturday afternoon. Somehow we missed all the rain. We had a good ride. I like the sand when it is a little bit wet plus there was no dust. I was surprised how many people there. I was planning on going next weekend but it looks like it's going to snow. I guess I will have to wait for the lakes to freeze until I can go riding again. Did your wheel bearing hold out on your Scrambler?

Posted by: ATC83

Are you thinking about getting a new Polaris ATV? I sure like the look of the new Outlaw. What kind of sled do you have?

Yeah, the V Force is awsome. The power is so great. Before I started riding the Z400, I was the king on the V Force. BTW, why do you want a V Force over the Yamaha Raptor 700R?

Has any Minnesota riders heard of Summit pit? I think it is some were around Owatonna, has anyone been there?
