There is a sale on Collett headsets! Hey skooter or Meg did you guys get them?
There are a few guys I sometimes ride with that have them so I bought one!
I'm thinking of heading up for a Saturday ride Apr 15 whos riding?
~Coop
Posted by: Marylandatv
Meg, I don't know if the chatter box will work with the Collett? I thought the Chatter box was more for street bikes and not as durable? I mostly have been riding Saturdays sometimes with the gang and other times leave out of another area. For me it really depends on the weather and with summer coming up that's even more so! I don't wanna be in a large group if its dry and dusty. I'm going to be doing a lot of trail riding this year being my racing has been kind of cut short because of health reasons. BR>
Reading Anthracite Coal Company is selling permits to ride on there Coal land, I really think the Frackville area is going to change. They own land from down towards Tower City to up pass Hazelton. I hear places like Tower City/Rausch Creek and Paragon are tryin to fight it and tryin to make it look bad? I'm sure it will affect there business. For those of us that have been riding the land for years I don't have a problem payin 100 bucks for a 1 year pass myself (Al those most locals don't share this view) I guess we will just have to see what happens in the next year or so?
The terrain is very mixed up there, so there are areas that maybe better suited for utilities? But I rode my 250R for a year just about everywhere up there and had no problems! other then I walked a little slower the next day!~LOL There are definitely more ROCKS then riding parts of Maryland.. For those that wanna bring the wife and do family riding should look up Speedy and join him for a Sunday ride! He enjoys sharing the trails with riders that are new to the area up there and will show you a good time.

They are going to open it up to 1000 this year, But my guess is they are going to let them go in lots of a few hundred every few months. I'm sure they wanna watch it over time to see how it goes. I talk to one of the coal company guys and they said they are working on maps, organizing it better but its going to take time and they just wanted to get it off the ground. The company makes millions of dollars so there not doing it just for the money, they wanna see it grow like Hatfields and other places.
My guess is an organized ATV group will get with them to pulll it all together in the next year or so? Kind of like Windrock does with Coal Creek?

Hey Maryland Group!
I was wondering if some of you could PM me about what type of riding you all do in Maryland. Opportunity may present itself for me to uproot from my digs on the West Coast for a move back east. But I dont know much about what type of riding you all do, recreation wise.
I mostly ride, recreation wise, on the sand. I race MX races in WORCS and a locally sanctioned venue. There is some trail riding (utility) but I am more into sport bikes.
Hope to hear from some of you to clue me in to what is available in Maryland. Wife and I are making a quick trip into Baltimore and DelMarVa area for a few days next week for a few job prospects.
Thanks,
The Bear
(OREGON/WASHINGTON RIDER).

Thanks!
I made the trip in and out of MD. Loved it, but it was quick. The wife was offered the job, up in the air as to taking it or not. Alot hangs on that decision. Thanks for the info, and if I do come, Ill be sure to keep some of that great west coast sand in the trailer for yall.

Only 600 to Michigan? Now that dont sound too bad. Hmmmmm. Thats shorter than a trip to Sand Mtn for me. Hmmmm. But they still aint the Oregon Dunes. Boy, we have it good here!

Posted by: SandyBear
Well Marylanders, get ready, here I come. I should be out there for good in a few months ( by December). The wife and kids are already settled in there and I am just finishing my employment situation.
I look forward to finding some good riding areas out there and meeting some new folk that enjoy riding as much as I do. Hey, where are the quad friendly MX tracks in the NE area of the state? And I guess I will have to do something about Ocean City not having any big sand dunes or riding areas near the beach! LOL.
As for the MX tracks, I see one is situated in Easton, but not sure how big of a quad venue they have for MX series. I also heard of one in Delaware. Ill be living in Salisbury / DelMar area. Drop me a pm.

You guys are depressing me about this move to Maryland. No places to ride????Im no stranger to driving 3 or more hours to ride, but that sucks. Guess I will have my work cut out for me when I get there.
Ill be back for a quick 10 day visit in Maryland to see the wife and kids on the 12th November. Not going to get any riding in then, just a visit.
Megan, did you ever make that trip out here to Oregon? If so, I hope you all had a great trip! Im going to the sand on Sunday, rain or shine I hope. Probably the dunes in Florence, Oregon or Winchester Bay.
You all take care.

I got mine the 400EX, which was her first quad. If your wife is going to get into riding, then a 250 will lose her interest when she gets better and more comfortable. A 400's power is easy to control, even for a newbie, and with the EX, there are plenty of upgrades available to keep her happy for a long time.

Hey folks, thanks 420pimp for the heads up about this thread. I see a lot a familiar names here. Hey Megan LTNS, hey Husky100 you probably don't remember me but I was there beside you when that limb broke. You introduced yourself to me like 5 times I couldn't resist messing with you though (after you was checked out ok) each time you shook my hand and told me your name I told you a different name hahahahaha . Anyway what happened to you and Richard a few weeks ago? I heard someone say you was there on Sat but was late? We had a great ride that day. Anyway glad to see you all here, now back to the topic, when we riding in CC? No place in Harford Co, and getting worse. How safe from the man is Marley pits? You know in Md they like to keep your quad for trespassing, man mine isn't even paid off yet LOL.
Posted by: skooter525
Tower Hill? Never heard of that. But I'm game
Posted by: skooter525
I did see it mentioned but I thought you were referring to Tower City, guess I should read closer LOL
Posted by: skooter525
I think she's referring to the ones in Cecil Co
Posted by: skooter525
I haven't heard from you guys over there in Cecil Co , you people still riding?

The gate is chained at Tower Hill like someone posted. If it wasn't for that old farmer over by Irristown/Old Elk Neck rd, everyone could park there. I don't know if you remembered, but they burnt his hay a few years ago. That's why he's the way he is.
Man it's always some DH that spoils it for the rest of us!!!!!!!!!

Are you talking about going down next the Shaffers and turning left?
Posted by: skooter525
Cool , Grim we'll have to hook-up some time and ride
Posted by: skooter525
Hey Coop I think there are no more permits left , so if you didn't get one you are SOL. They cut loose 350 but those sold out fast, then they opened it up to 500. But the last I heard those we about gone too. Did you ever get one?

bump
Posted by: skooter525
That just brings the topic back up to the top
Posted by: skooter525
I agree 420, I call Maryland " The can't do it state" If you want to ride around here you have to drive 3 hours + in any direction to get to a place!!!!!!! BTW <<<< Heading toward Kentucky in less than 3 weeks WoooooHoooooo A true ATV paradise ( sorry off topic)

Its a shame we have to drive 3 hours to ride. I have been riding with the Frackville group for over 2 years now. Most of the time I go up the night before and get a room. I was doing the 3 hour drive up and ride 9 or 10 hours and then 3 hour drive home. But I guess I'm getting to old for that long of a day. I remember one long day over last winter when Megan was with us, we did 120 miles and didn't get back until 9 pm. Man was my D*ck in the dirt that day

Hatfeild mccoy is a blast i went in october and november look up quadcrew.com my screen name is shedman800. We stay at livingood lodge in gilbert. I f you all like camping you would like twin hollow campgrounds its up on a hill and you can see for miles. Trailheaven .com will tell you alot about h/m but alot of the riders are on quadcrew.com If anyone wants to tag along in the spring let me know march probaly. Have a good one
Posted by: Shedman
It takes me 9 hours from ocean city md . Im guessing hat joppatown is 2hours from me ? just a guess. It is well worth the ride just get a group together and it makes the ride more fun.
Posted by: Shedman
You might want to change your plans because it will take 3 days to ride rockhouse (browning fork) That is unless you want to ride part of each trail and mix things up . I have been on all 5 trail systems and have not see all the trails yet. I live 10 minutes from willards but dont know of any trails on new hope road but if i get bored i ride at pocomoke forest its better than nothing and would take you 30 minutes to get there from willards. I f you are staying at browning fork trailhouse your in good hands they are very nice people i have not met them but kknow people that stay there . I stay at livinggoodlodge all the time which is very close to where you are staying

Howdy,
I'am new to ATVing to (05 Suzuki Eiger Auto) and would love to travel as close as Cecil Co. but now that it doesn't sound doable, let me chip in with my 2 cents.
Try Greenridge State Forrest alittle east of Cumberland. Its an 18 mile loop but its nice. Also check out Michaux and Buchanan (not sure of the exact spelling) State Forest in Pa. (alittle closer to you). They're on the internet. If you find anything closer, let me know. Happy riding!
Posted by: cataway
it was voted #7 because their is six better places to ride . in 3 hours you'll ready to go home its just to small of a place to use that much effete to get there . big deal a fue sand hills and a make shift drag strip . i live in this state and for ATVs it sucks
Posted by: GrimJack
Hey..I'm right up the road from you guys..I've been down the tracks to Elkton a few times..Have any of you went down a long the canal and rode? I grew up down that way and still ride there from time to time..The Natural Resources police will leave you alone most of the time..if you even see any. Give me a shoutwhen you're going to be out and about..Later all
Posted by: GrimJack
Usually on the North side..I've rode both though..you live near Ches. City?
Posted by: GrimJack
Yeah I know where you're talking about...there's lots of different places to get on to the levies (canal roads)..Even easier on the North side..give me a shout if want to take a tour..I can show you a good place to park your truck(if you bring your 4wheeler).
Posted by: GrimJack
If you're using dualsports..They wont mess with you..as long as they don't catch you "out of bounds"..where we ride they aren't around..it's hard to get back there with a 4X4..as for how to get to the levies..on the North side...just come into town go down the hill towards the firehouse..keep going straight...and you will see the entrance to the levies..simple as that..I'm assuming you know something about the area?! Let me know if you have any trouble.
Posted by: GrimJack
Yep..that's the way..just follow the canal on out and go up the hills to the top..all kinds of trails..mud..a little of everything
Posted by: GrimJack
Sounds good Skooter..give me a shout when you're heading up this way.
Posted by: GrimJack
Rode all day and didn't see a soul..we did the cookout yesterday..anyone familiar with the Elkton area give me a shout..I live across the line in Delaware but can follow the AMTRAK tracks into Elkton..I was down behind Triumph Industrial park earlier..Later
Posted by: GrimJack
Sat 4314..
I know the levies pretty good..grew up down that way..let me know if you want to meet sometime..later

Holy Crap Megan seems like your posting on all threads. Glad to see you are enjoying the great outdoors on the quad. I read you and Jeff wont be up on the New Years ride. Oh well read the web site and enjoy the photos. So you finally bought a KQ, be carefull. At the way you ride I dont think Mikes twin peaks can handle a rear end shot with the KQ like the one you gave him the other week on the prairie (haha) Anyway practice up and join us for an all day adventure in the PA mountains!! Ride Safe Ride hard Just Ride!!!!
Posted by: husky100
Yes we had a show and tell session on just the exhaust and then they went on to a couple of light spills you had. None the less it just goes to show how us Marylanders ride. When I took that hard shot to my face I kept getting emails from some of the others that were on that trip saying Mike Tyson couldn't of hit me any harder and then to drive out of the woods for 2 hours was a true test of ummmm not courage maybe stupidity. Anyway face was all sewn up and is all healed. But you still up on all fours and riding strong. Jeff better bump his game up a notch or two with you on the KQ. See you on the trails!! I cant make it the following weekend sorry

Ive been living in cecil county for a few years and i dont think theres any trails or pits. I'm getting so sick of not riding so if any one could fill me in on at least a local track or somthing. I'm about to just ride road. Ive heard from some locals that told me to ride the amtrack train tracks but thats not really to fun and dont feel like getting chased by the guys with the yellow lights. They said theres trails of of them. But i dont no i'm fed up with having to go to tower city in ,pa, or the pine barrens, in jersey were i moved to this boring county from. Please Help any suggestions?
Posted by: 420Pimp
Thanks for the help everyone.
Posted by: 420Pimp
Any more suggestions? I would be happy to reveal some great spots in jersey thats worth the trip just give me an email and i'll hook you up.
Posted by: 420Pimp
Tower city is fun to ride on a damp day. If you go on a dry day the dust kills you.
Posted by: 420Pimp
LoL If any of you start a cecil county track do i get some of the stock. I did start this forum!!!!Just joking. That would be really sweet to be the first people the government designates a riding spot for. I'm glad this forum is doing so good to i thought it would be a dud but i guess there is alot of people concerned like me about cecil county's riding areas. Thank you all Plese keep the replys rolling and be safe riding.

what happened to megan
Posted by: 420Pimp
Ha what a small world. I was there at that game to megan. Cowboys were pathetic. We left after the cowboys made there first touchdown in the third quarter. Oh yea. I was hoping the cowboys would win. You know those redskin blankets they were giving away if you sighned up for a credit card. A friend of mine crossed out the redskin head and put redskins suck under it. Then she put cowboy stars all over the face and wore it like a cape. Man the redskin fans were pi.ssed. I want to go to an eagles game in phili they have the most craziest fans. they have patty wagons and a court setup outside cause so many people get in fights and somtimes get thrown off the top floor. Go Dallas.
Posted by: 420Pimp
Eagles r my second favorite team. I grew up in southern jersey. If the cowboys and eagles played i would root for the cowboys but if any 1 else played the eagles i would have a eagles jersey on.
Posted by: 420Pimp
You all have utility quads and hatfeild mcoy is fun for utility riders but theres to much rocks for me. I think I'll go to jersey and play in the sand. It's shorter ride 2.

warren winch
Posted by: 420Pimp
Megan, search for this on Google Earth. (otis bog rd, little egg harbor, nj). You will see a pit called frenchies pit. In new jersey the resolution on google earth is alot clearer. It's around 118 miles from north east if you get directions from google earth and it's around 100 the way i take. If you look around you can find alot more pit's. If you want to see more just let me know and i'll get the adress for you. In most spots it's not really legal but the authoritys dont care if you ride there as long as you dont cause trouble or get crazy and drunk and burn stuff down. On the other hand if you go into the state forest i have heard that theres a fire warden riding around out there on a quad. But i grew up there and have road that area all my life and have never had any problems with the law or any fire warden's. Well cant say that cause when i ride road they bother me . Like i said just stay off the road if you dont want to get chased. If you would like to make a trip up there maybe one weekend this summer let me know and i'll show you your way around. When the day is over maybe you and your husband would like to go to atlantic city a.c is a 20 min drive from there.

o yea. What i have learned from google earth is that most of the trails that i used to ride up there are old unpaved roads they used back 100's of years ago to get around. It's pretty crazy if you really zoom in and follow them ive found trails i never knew about. If this program was around when i used to live up there i could of followed trails all the way to almost phila.

Ok, well see what we can work out this summer and try to meet up. If this thread dies then how will we keep in contact?
And Megan did you find that pit on google earth?

Did anyone listen to 98rock last week? There was some crazy woman on there blaming gags for all our american soldiers getting killed and the coal miners deaths in west virginia. She said god is killing off people because of all the gags in the world. This woman is a complete wackjob. If you missed it, it was on the Micky and Amelia show and i can give you the link to listen.

If you live in sykesville, that isn't to far from Mt.airy. Theres tons of places to ride there. Black Hills, Mt Airy Quarry,. You can ride the traintracks all the way to Frederick.
Posted by: 420Pimp
O yea . I just got over being sick to. Damn flue bug!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: 420Pimp
Yea Alot of really young kids were at tower city when i went last year. I remember a little kid was holding up everyone on a trail and we had to wait till she/he got all the way back to camp. Tower city is perfect for kids. Theres a straight away thats as wide as route 40 and it go's many miles. The only thing you should be worried about is other people crashing into your kid. I no thats what i would worry about if i had a kid. But just keep your little one close and you should be fine.
And tell your boss to get off on the libertytown exit just after mt.airy heading towards frederick. Turn left after you exit and theres a park n ride about 1/4 mile down. You cant miss it. You can unload here. Theres trails that goes around the fence in the farthest corner of the park n ride. Go up the hill. Ride around till you see a big water tower. Go around the tower, cut threw the feild, and on the outskirts off the feild there is the traintracks. You can explore from here, but be carefull cause at some points in the tracks the dirt is erowded and if going fast enough you could lose control of your quad. So be cautios and drive like you have some sense. The black trails are a few miles up the tracks heading towards mt.airy. You'll go threw a bridge and then a tunnel. Then if you just keep riding and watch to your left you should find some trails that go down hill off of the tracks. If the dirt is black you know you found it. Have fun. Be careful.
Posted by: 420Pimp
Burkie did you ever find that park n ride and find the spots i was talking about? And about that atv park in southern maryland, were's it at or are you talking about buds creek in mechanicsville?
Posted by: 420Pimp
A 400ex would be perfect for your wife. A z400 or a kfx 400 is alot faster than the ex . The kfx is a kawisaki but it's made by suzuki. The kfx 400 and the z 400 are the same quads just different colors. But yea i would get her a z 400. She might not want a clutch now, but trust me once she gets the hang of she will love the clutch and be happy she didn't get the auto.
Posted by: 420Pimp
Clutch is better for trails and track. Whats better than having full controll of your transmission at all times. You kinda have more options when you have a clutch.
Posted by: 420Pimp
Go with the z 400 or the 400ex. You wont be dissopointed.
Posted by: 420Pimp
Were u at the park n ride? And if you were, wear did ya go from there?
Posted by: 420Pimp
I think everyone forgot about this thread?
Posted by: 420Pimp
Sorry i don't have time to read back now. But where did you say that the pits were located?
Posted by: 420Pimp
Whats the riding like? Any jumps, or nice sized hills? How big is tower hill?
Posted by: 420Pimp
Haaaaa, pitsburg one the bowl. I knew they would. Oh yea megan also have fun sking. Is the snow manmade where your going because i know western maryland hasn't had any snow latly. Correct me if i'm wrong.
But any way what is the resort called. Do they have a website.
Posted by: 420Pimp
That would be awsome to have our own park. Gov. won't let it happen thoe.
Posted by: 420Pimp
That place is by blufeild wv i have family down there. Next time i head that way i might just stop by.
Posted by: 420Pimp
we used to take a left , right before the bridge and go down a few side rodes then the levy rode was right there

Any one wana make a road trip in the future? I'm thinkin about hittin the dunes in Silver Lake Michigan. They were voted # 7 in Quad Magazine for top dune spots in the usa. It's a long haul but would be worth the trip. You can bring rv's camp out whatever. I think they got a website i'll get more details.
If you want to look it up or have the Google Earth program the adress is (9679, w silver lake rd , mears, mi, 49436)
Has any one heard of this place besides me?
Posted by: 420Pimp
If milelage wasn't a factor i would pack my sh.it up and head to Pismo Dunes in cali. But since i don't want to drive 5000 fu.ckin miles i would rather drive 600 n go to Michigan.
And it can't suck for somone who's never rode dunes.

That white Ford was me i looked it up on google and rode out there. I also printed out a sattalite image so i could find all the ways 2 get in but obviosly there is none. Is that guard there all the time and if he here's you riding out there does he call the cops? I also rode around to what looks like an old quarry road but it's blocked off. The trail that goes back there look fresh thoe.

I looked up the waste materials that there supposidly cleaning up. The only way i see they could affect you is if you went out there and went swimming in ground puddles or drank the water. Wtf Looks like a bs gov. opp. Just looks good on paper and makes the local community feel better in other words. Does any one no exactly how there going about cleaning that place up?

Has anybody ever rode out by Bainbridge near Port Deposit? I found some trails and old roads to ride on back there. It use to be a naval academy. I saw some dood out there riding a 400 ex is it any of you? I also found a lil spot right over the delaware line. I'm sorry i havent posted in ages but i have been busy.
Posted by: 420Pimp
And whoever reported me to the moderator because i said sh@* or fu*@ a few times your pathetic.
Posted by: 420Pimp
Theres really no were to park. My mothers house is surrounded by the bainbridge military base so i get exclusive access. It's really not even worth riding on theres only a few old roads and trails not really to much fun. The fun part is the No Trespassing section but if you get caught i think it's a federal offense. No big deal cause its always fun to run from the cops. I went back to the no trespassing section a few months back and it its fuc&*ing huge!!!!!! I kept my quad real quiet so i wouldn't be noticed and really nobody bothered me. That place is like a ghost town looks like a nuke went off there. Theres old farm houses, old military housing evan an old hospital all still in ok shape. If you ever want to check it out let me no and i can get you some free parking.

Hi All,
I live in Anne Arundel County, and it's great to see other Marylanders here. Megan thanks for the Speedball's link. I can't wait to join you all for a ride. It looks like a blast!
My b-i-l and I ride quite a bit, and my wifes father just bought a Honda Recon over the weekend. We are taking him to Greenridge State Park this Saturday for him to get used to the bike. We went to Tower City a few weeks ago, and I loved it. We will certainly be joining TC in the spring, and even have plans of putting a permanent cabin there. :-)
I really wish we had a decent riding spot in central MD. But you guys already know what Maryland is like. There used to be a huge piece of property by my house that was an old horse farm, and for years people used to ride there. The county decided to make it a golf course, and sell the remainder of the property to developers to build homes around the golf course.
All the sales tax that is collected from residents purchasing ATV's, and the property taxes we pay. I really believe the State, or County has an obligation to provide us with a legal riding area.
I plan on buying my wife a quad in the spring, I can't wait to get her more involved. She went with us to the track in Easton several weeks ago, and she was quite impressed. She did believe me when I told her it was a family sport. When she saw all the other women and kids riding she was siked. :-)
Posted by: rodnreel
I've been thinking the exact same thing about opening my own ATV park. If you need a partner I've got close to $17 in liquid assets as of right now. :-)
I talked to the owner of Southern MD ATV park for quite awhile about what he went thru to get his park opened. There is alot more to it than just owning the property. He sent several hundred thousand in permits, environmental studies, and a bunch of other crap the State and County put him through.
I just got an email back from Speedy, I'll be lookin forward to joining you all for a ride soon.
Posted by: rodnreel
That's funny, I'm a loan officer for Champion Mortgage. I'm always playing on realtor.com looking at properties. My wife and I are considering selling our house this time next year, and we were going to look at houses just across the PA line. The next time I buy a house, ATV'ing will be a special consideration. I want no less than 10 acres, so that I can have my own track. :-)
Posted by: rodnreel
Well I'm going to keep looking and dreaming about owning my own riding spot, but for now I'll have to stick with the public areas. I would like to join you all on Sunday, but since this will be my father in law's first ride on his new quad, I think we're better off starting him slow and easy. Green Ridge is a good place for him to get familiar with it, he's never ridden before this, other than putting around the yard on one of our's. :-)
Posted by: rodnreel
A riding area in Cecil County would be good, but in Anne Arundel County would be even better. BR>
There is an industrial area a developer wanted to purchase and bulid a NASCAR track. It was a great location, easily accesible from major roads, and not to close to residential areas. For what ever reason the county opposed it, and the people around here would have flocked to it. The revenue that could have been generated from a NASCAR track would be tremendous.
I don't understand why the Dealers don't come together and lobby State and Local governments to provide riding areas, or pull their resources and build one themselves. Sales would sky rocket if people knew they had a place to ride. Whenever I tell some someone I own a ATV, they always say "I'd like to have one, but there's no where to ride"
Megan,
How's sales going? Are you seeing much of a slow down that the media keeps predicting. I think the media wants to play to the hype that the bubble is bursting, and scare people with doom and gloom. If they aren't careful , it will become a self fulfilling prophecy. This time of the year is always a bit slower, but I bet come Spring things will still be strong.
Posted by: rodnreel
Things have slowed down slightly, mostly due to the holidays. And, today being the first day of the new month it's a little quiet, thankfully. I had 6 closings last week, all on the same day. So it was very crazy, and now I'm glad to have a little bit of quiet time. I have 3 loans scheduled to close in mid December, and I think I'll take off Christmas thru New Years. So I'm going to try and get everything closed early this month. :-)
I'm looking forward to some time off to relax, and hopefully get some riding time in. And hopefully no cell phone either. BR>
I have one I'm working on right now, where the guy just quit his job because he was expecting everything to go thru, and didn't think we'd verify employment, dumba$$.

depends how much work around the house I get done Saturday
You have to do the "honey do" thing too before you can go riding.
I made sure to get all the my work done last weekend, I was on the roof until 11pm Monday night finishing Christmas lights, so I wouldn't have that to hold me back this weekend. And, tomorrow's my birthday, so I get a free pass to ride this weekend. No complaining from the Mrs. BR>
Posted by: rodnreel
We did go. Sorry, I didn't respond yesterday, I was having a root canal done. :-( I just turned 36 last week and now I'm falling apart. But the good news is, I got a set of ALBA nerfs, Pro Taper handle bars, and Fox riding boots for my birthday. :-)
Green Ridge is a very nice place to ride. It's a 20 something mile loop, that offers some twists and turns, a rocky section (that isn't to bad), mud, and the last 1/3 of the loop is open smooth and fast. The whole thing is pretty much old fire roads. I enjoy Green Ridge, it's fun for a beginner rider, and experienced rider. After riding the loop about 3 times it does get a little old.
My b-i-l just got new tires, and he didn't have them fully beaded. About half way around on the first loop, he got a flat. So we had to leave after one trip around, which was ok. My father in law had spahgetti legs by then anyway.
You should go check it out. You have to purchase an ORV permit, which is $15 for the year, and is good at any of the State Parks.
My wife gave me a hard time all weekend about riding, my chores are starting to get backed up on me. So, I probably won't get to ride again until the Christmas break.
Posted by: rodnreel
This was my first root canal, and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Funny thing is my teeth were fine until I went to the dentist last week, then he started messing around, and the next thing I had a really bad tooth ache. Which lead to the root canal appointment. The pain killers certainly did help, but aren't nearly as much fun when you're actually in pain. BR>
Here's a link to Green Ridge: Green Ridge State Park
It's just past the Rocky Gap, it takes me 2 hours to get there. You would probably enjoy riding there, it is fun. Just doesn't having anything that's to challenging. It's not a place that you'd find yourself going back to every weekend, cause it would get a little boring. But certainly worth checking out.
There's another place in Gore VA, called MotoCove. If anyone ever suggest you go there, don't do it. It's the worst place I've ever been. The rocks are extreme!!! The rocky section at Tower City is nothing in comparison. I ride a sport quad, but I can't imagine that place would be any fun on a utility either.

Hey Kasuki,
Where in Maryland do you live?
I'm in Pasadena (Anne Arundel County), and the closest legal riding spot to me is The Landing in Easton, and Southern Maryland ATV Park in Southern Maryland. Both are about a 1 hour drive.

Hi hvacman61,
I've not yet been to Hatfield, but certainly plan to make it this spring. I only hear great things about the place. And, have been to Greenridge quite a few times.
Welcome to the boards!

There are a few places around in Cecil County. Nothing great though. Alot of the small local pits have closed.
Send me a email & we can swap riding areas.

i have some questions about the marley pits... i just noticed these trails last week for the first time. i drove down ephrata lane and noticed a guard shack with signs saying basically that the place was a chemical dump. is it a good place to ride? do you glow after riding there? whats the deal? is there anywhere you can park and then go ride? i would also like to check out the trails off of the csx tracks. oh well... i guess thats enough questions for a first post.
Welcome to the board! I ride both 4 & 2 wheels. We need to go ride sometime! I rode Tower Hill last Saturday, place has really grown up since I rode there as a kid. Still a great place to ride. I can access anywhere with my Dual Sport (xr650l). Monday we rode out to the Quarries in Whiteford. Cool place to ride, lots of cliffs. It was a great day to take a ride (60 degrees).
I grew up riding/playing in Marley pits. Like Megan said, there are two pits, one is undergoing a chemical cleanup. Its a Super Fund Site. You can find some information about it on the net. There were lots of chemicals dumped in the "first" pit. Its fenced off & has security to patrol it. The chemicals were nothing (that I know of) harmfull. Although they can't be good either. Anyone riding in the pits, stay away from the lane leading to the shack that leads to the other side. They have tolerated everyone riding for the past several years, but by riding up there, then they are forced to do something & we'll loose another riding spot. They stopped dumping chemicals back in the 70's & started cleaning it up in the mid 80's. The second pit has never been cleaned, or closed. I don't think they dumped in the second pit. It sounds worse than what it is.

Tower Hill has alittle of everything. Some big hills, small track, lots of trails. Its a good place to ride.

bpipes,
Check your email
Posted by: 660Yamaha
They have been surveying the woods by Marley pits all last week. Across from the church is a board with plans of a development. Looks like we're loosing another pit.
The gate is chained at Tower Hill like someone posted. If it wasn't for that old farmer over by Irristown/Old Elk Neck rd, everyone could park there. I don't know if you remembered, but they burnt his hay a few years ago. That's why he's the way he is.
Posted by: 660Yamaha
We rode our Dual Sports yesterday down along the canal. Do you ride the North or South side?
Posted by: 660Yamaha
I live in North East. We can ride our dual sports legally down there. I used to ride atvs on the south side , far end on the right, but the gates been closed for awhile now.
Posted by: 660Yamaha
Will the DNR bother you? Can you get the gps location from Google Earth?
Posted by: 660Yamaha
I took my son riding up there yesterday. He's only 5, so we didn't ride far. He had fun. There was another fourwheeler riding, a go-cart, and two trucks fourwheeling.
Posted by: 660Yamaha
bpipes,
My wife & I both like the trail boss. It's a plush ride, with a large seat. It's very simple to ride. My Wife & Niece ride it with no trouble. I take it trail riding. I bought it used (8 months old). We had minor issues with it. The chain makes alittle noise. I don't like the chain guard. I'm thinking of removing it. Leroy's in Oxford said some people are using different oil in the motor than what it calls for (a polaris synthetic I think?) & blowing the motors up??
I'd recommend it.

Hey guys, nice thread....

there is so much riding like htat around here, that to go to pay palces has been tough sell for me..
I literally know how to get right next store to those places and ride on power lines and coal property. Most of the coal owners dont mind if you dont do any damage...
where about in MD are you guys located??

we go to MD all the time for va-ca...OC MD that is, its 2nd home...
we have been riding in hazletona nd tamaqua, st. clair area most of the time. I grew up on those mountains, so makes for easy riding...
you had a Pairie in one of those photo's, did you dump it for the King?
thinking of giving my wife mine at getting P700 or bf650...
not sure I need bigger bike, some trails get tight' (not like tight's a bad thing)
where do you ride up here?
Posted by: jamakn
Hey Mikey'
I dont htink TOwer City all that far from Dauphin county...probably less than an hour from either site, depending on where you are going to be down there. Look at Hazleton and Tower City on Yahoo maps...
I believe Paragon has a web site too....both are not far off of I-81

hey man about how far are you from the MD, PA, state line? because i live just over the line in PA and i have a bunch of places to ride that are private so you can't get in trouble for riding there, i ride there almost everyday, jumps, trails, wide open fields all at one place, so you tell me how far you are away and if you want your more then welcome to go riding with me and my friends...

Hi everyone...
I live in Taneytown (in Carroll County...right on the MD/PA line) and I too am looking for a place to ride, other than Tower City. I have been riding at my mom's house, she has 160 acres - mostly open fields but about 10 acres or so is woods so I am trying to start making trails through there. Anyone else from around here and know of any good (preferably legal) spots?
Thanks, and if I find anything I'll be sure to let you all know.
