Well when "stupid(A$$)ATVrider" gets nabbed, machine confiscated, fined will see where the river comes from. But in the mean time people with that idiotic mentality will go on ruining it for the majority of us. Maybe law abiding atvers will have to get involved also.

CUMBERLAND -- Two local police departments will join forces in an effort to combat the growing problem of illegal ATV riding in their neighboring communities.

For more than three years, uniformed North Attleboro police officers have conducted regular patrols on off-road motorcycles in that town&39;s wooded paths, old railroad beds and neighborhood streets where riders are known to frequent, said North Attleboro Capt. Daniel Coyle.

The police department uses a combination of enforcement and education, Coyle said, and works closely with the Massachusetts Environmental Police and a local trail-riding group.

"The biggest complaints we get are the vehicles are riding down main streets at a high rate of speed. We&39;re trying to avert a tragedy is what we&39;re trying to do," Coyle said.

It&39;s a similar effort Cumberland Police Chief Anthony Silva is planning to institute in his department, using 16 trained police officers to patrol the trails on the Monastery grounds and other town properties where police have received an avalanche of complaints from town residents.

Having purchased one off-road motorcycle, the Cumberland Police Department is in the process of buying a second vehicle and plans are in the works to train the local officers who will be on motorcycle patrol, said the chief.

"We&39;re not the only community having these problems. We want to start a partnership with their department," Silva said of North Attleboro.

The pairing of the two police departments comes on the heels of the latest clash between ATV riders riding illegally on town and private land, and police officers attempting to stop the alleged trespassers.

It left one North Attleboro patrol officer slightly injured and one Cumberland police officer nearly hit by several of the off-road vehicles in the woods off Hines Road and Waumsett Avenue.

Three female riders were arrested by Cumberland police, although they are not believed to have been the main culprits in the off-road exchange with the police officers.

The incident first began near the a wooded area at the Cumberland-North Attleboro town line when North Attleboro Patrol Officer Josh McMahon crashed his motorcycle as he attempted to stop four ATV riders.

Coyle said McMahon lost control of his motorcycle when the riders in front of him slammed on their brakes. The four ATV riders took off down the trail.

McMahon suffered minor injuries, and immediately went back on duty, Coyle said.

Meanwhile, Cumberland police responded to the Hines Road area. According to police reports, Sgt. Paul Brown saw about seven ATV&39;s at the edge of the road and ordered them to stop.

Instead, the group fled into the woods except for one motorcyclist who revved his engine and headed directly at the officer&39;s patrol car, swerving away at the last second.

Later, Brown came upon the group again, and this time two of the four-wheel vehicles reportedly sped toward the officer, going more than 40 miles an hour. Brown reported that both vehicles swerved in an attempt to hit him.

North Attleboro Patrol Officer Jolene Bell, who had responded to the Millers Brook area, radioed Brown that three more ATV riders were heading his way.

This time Brown successfully stopped the riders, and arrested Jami Elliot, 19, Erin Elliot, 20, both of 95 Angell Road, and Robin Lyn Kelleher, 20, of 1 Deborah St. All three town women were charged with trespassing, violating a town ordinance, and disobeying a police officer

According to Coyle, his police officer said the arrested riders were not the people involved in the North Attleboro incident. The case is still under investigation.

Cumberland police impounded the three riders&39; vehicles.

Silva would not say when the local police would start their off-road motorcycle patrols. But judging from the volume of complaints the police department receives, the patrols will be in multiple locations around town.

It would appear to me that "stupidATVrider" has choosen his name aptly.

'budferret'..........I had to do a double check on your name. Change the 'd' to a 't' and.............well let's just say I'd be thinking you had NAMBLA aspirations. LOL

Seriously though, I'd like to thank you for bringing your perspective to this forum. The last thing we want to do is unwittingly "feed the Trolls" and potentially add fodder to anti-ATV groups as well.

DON"T FEED THE TROLLS !!!

StupidATVer is an obvious troll. In his profile you need only to say his first and last name out loud as a sentence to get a cute little troll saying.
In his posting sig he claims to be g_a_y. (profanity filters block this now socially acceptable word in message bodies but failed to filter it in his sig line) This nitrous oxide sniffing troll does not ride a quad and is actually a NAMBLA wanna-be. No sane person of any gender preference would want to be associated with him.
He is only here to look at pictures of little boys on their bikes and post them on his troll website.
I hope the moderators block his IP address soon.

Thanks for pointing out them name thing. I don't necessesarily endorse beer products or weasels but a friend thought the critter on the old beer commercials was cool. I've only got 10 posts with this forum name and now I have to change it again. LOL !

As far as ANTI-ATVers, I have grown tired of seeing posts from ATV Connection taken out of context and copied to ANTI sites to feed their propaganda machines. They have followed links to pictures of mud riding in Texas on private ATV parks that maintain areas specifically for that purpose. They then point to these pictures and say that no motorized trail use should be allowed in Mass because that is what ALL ATV use does to ALL trails. They spend more time on these forums than we do to find that special "one in a thousand" quote to use against us. It's a shame that we can't let our guard down and relax here in our "home" because of these "peeping Toms".

In my research I have often found useful information and news about our sport on the sites of our opponents before I find them on supporting forums. These opponents register on our forums to help them violate terms of use and copyright laws. Although they usually lurk here like an ugly "troll" hiding in a fetid cave, they will occasionally make baited comments to fish or "troll" for the negative responses they seek. These cretins derive much personal satisfaction from demonstrations of their towering intellects by making clever little troll comments about the state of their anatomy.

I am not homophobic but the reference to nambla is not accidental. The offending troll will know why and has probably already already quoted my insult on his opponent site to further convince his fellow trolls. to hate us. (It could be said that I'm "trolling" for his response to further identify him)

When he/she gets nabbed, the crying will be that he/she is the victim and that it is their right to ride anywhere they damn well please.

When I read comments like stupidatvrider make, I try and figure out if it is that they are young and dumb and just dont know any better. Or is it immaturity and ignorance? Either way it does suck that pr1ck5 like him have attitude that ruins it for the rest of us.

Huh maybe mud hog is on to something. We really can't trust the police! or maybe they are just tired of chasing those little punks around. I know I would eventually lose my patience and try and get sympathy from people for help. But seriously its riders such as these that give the rest of us a bad name. Those of us that follow the rules are being punished for these little punks idiotic actions.

He is only here to look at pictures of little boys on their bikes and post them on his troll website.

And budferret this statement creeps me out and makes me wanna stay home with all the doors and windows locked. StupidAtver is a troll and thanks to you we all know, and knowing is half the battle.

Real cool!!! You arrest a couple of chicks that just burned you!!!!

Ya know, I read that first post and something didn't sit right with me. I have to preface this by saying I believe in the slogan "stay on the trail or stay home" whole heartedly. However, if you are a rider with any sort of experience and you read the article one thing should really kind of make you wonder if the police were indeed reporting the truth. This would be that "two of the four-wheel vehicles reportedly sped toward the officer, going more than 40 miles an hour. Brown reported that both vehicles swerved in an attempt to hit him"!!! C'mon now. I have been riding a long time now and can't even imagine that I could run a grown man down at 40 miles per hour and not crash the bike. It's absurd to think that this was what really happened. I ride where there are a ton of deer and dread the day I have to actually occupy the same space at the same time with one of them. At 40 mph the impact would be devistating to both the object and the bike(rider included). There is probably a thread of truth to the story but I think the police are looking for a sympathy vote from the anti atv people in thier rendition of the story. A non-atver would probably think that on an atv you could run someone over like you were in a car. Absolutely ludicrous.

Anyway, I guess I just don't buy into the reported record of the story. Sounds like a lot of anti atv hype to me.

I try and believe what the police have to say but have known to many of them in my life which are not quite on the straight and narrow. I still try to give them the benefit of the doubt.

On the purchasing of motorcycles to chase atv's thing, that's ridiculous. Unless all the trails and places the atv's are terrorizing are flat corridor type trails, the cops are gonna kill themselves trying to run down the atv's. Where I ride in the twisties, there is no way a dirt bike could even come close to hanging with my 800. I think those poor guys are in for a rude awakening. Maybe the town is so small that they know every punk in town and all they have to do is id them.

"The biggest complaints we get are the vehicles are riding down main streets at a high rate of speed.
Looks to me like that in town would be the place to start.

Having purchased one off-road motorcycle, the Cumberland Police Department is in the process of buying a second vehicle and plans are in the works to train the local officers who will be on motorcycle patrol

So they are going to train the cops to ride the bikes? Inexperienced dirt bike riders trying to catch experiened atv riders? LOL The cop that got hurt probably stopped and fell over on his side just trying to maintain his balance.

Now don't take this the wrong way, but I don't trust a statement by the police any more than I do a statement from anyone else. Too many of them on a power trip.
