I wouldn't call Fairfield close to Hollister. But Hollister is an awesome place to ride.
Check out Carnegie. It's probably the closest of the SVRAs. There is also some riding to be had in the forest areas up above Fairfield.
Do a search on this site for bakasamo (I think that's the spelling.) And caldirt. They are websites with links and info on where to ride in California.

You can try Prairie City, in Rancho Cordova. Prairie City is kinda small, but a good place to sling some mudd in the winter time.
Then there's Mammoth Bar, up in Auburn. It's also a smaller area, but has some interesting trails. It's been a while, but a believe they still have a track formed with large sand berms.
Forest Hill has some good riding. Try Sugar Pines, up above Forest Hill. I used to ride my LT250 there, back in the '80s. It's all mountain trails. You can ride all day and not hit the same trail twice.
Carnegie is down off Corral Hollow Road, west of Tracy. The hill climbs there are insane, but there's a variety, so you can pick and choose the level of difficulty.

I am moving to Fairfield soon and I am looking for a place to ride up there. I just bought a brand new 400EX Monday. Does anyone know where to go up there? The surrounding cities are San Fran, Sacramento, Vallejo, Stockton, Rio Vista, Modesto. Please give me some feed back. I'm desperate here.
