Bishop/Mammoth! The snow has just melted enough, that you can begin to get back into the high country of the Sierras and Inyos. We start out in the valley (4,000-6,000'), and ride up to over 10,000', so the hot weather is no big deal. We time it so we don't get back to camp before it begins to cool off.

Going to Pismo Memorial.

Yeah, it's been booked up for a while now. Might be able to get in for day use though. You'll have to find a place in town...good luck.

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

Glamis for Memorial? ouch. Take black cast iron cook wear. You won't need a stove, bbq, etc. Cooking by Nature.

That's going to be REALLY hot. Though I guess you could sleep during the days and ride at night. Bring more water than you think you'll need.

Posted by: BlackandRedWarrior

I guess the only way it could be boring would be to compare it to the major winter holidays when it's jam packed. Probably won't be a whole lot of people out there.

Aww queen, you don't like the heat? It's only going to be a nice warm 90+ in Valley next weekend.

Downright chilly 70 on the coast. Better bring the long johns and the parka!

Vforce, I think what you REALLY meant to say is topless girls in a topless Jeep. BR>
I've only been at Pismo for President's Day and it wasn't crazzy or anything like that. Hopefully there will be some nice stuff to look at. And maybe a few people with some sweet toys. BR>
Not sure where I'll be out there. People aren't happy with the usual spot.

Where do you guys go riding for Memorial Weekend.

Posted by: wahwahRaptor

Is there any place maybe just a little closer, we can't leave until Friday afternoon. And three kids on small quads coming with us.

Posted by: wahwahRaptor

We did Hungry Valley a couple of weeks ago and we did it last year for Memorial weekend, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

dancingqueen where do you guys head out for memorial weekend. What do you guys think about Ocotillio Wells for memorial weekend

Posted by: wahwahRaptor

Have you guys seen the weather for the next ten days, it seems the weather out in the desert will be a little cooler than usual.

Posted by: wahwahRaptor

Just to let everyone no, I called Ocotillio Wells ranger station and they said they had a nice breeze with the temperature at 85 degrees. This was around 2:00 in the afternoon.

If you like sand, you can always head to Pismo.

Probably is, but I dont need reservations, Ill just go out for the day and crash at a friends house. Staying out there on busy weekends doesnt interest me...too many young crazy kids that dont even ride.

Hah, 70 is perfect for cruising the Jeep w/no top! I'd have to put it back up if I stayed around here!

If it is not too hot, El Mirage or Johnson Valley isn't too bad. Otherwise, Pismo Beach used to be fun. I don't think you could get in there now, for that weekend.

Hey if you're ever interested in meeting up - let me know! We've met a lot of nice families out there.

For Memorial weekend, we're going to Calico Ghost Town (near Barstow). Has anyone ever ridden there? I never had any idea they allow OHV riding there (and RV hookups/campsites/cabin rentals too). Actually, friends we met in Gorman told us about it and said it was pretty cool. The price of the campsite ($21 for RV hookup) even includes entrance into the Ghost Town, where there's like 30 shops, restaurants, museums, tours, etc. It's also "dog friendly". We have a reservation in the "riding area" where we can ride right from our campsite. We thought we'd check it out anyway - always looking for new and exciting places to ride!

Calico is a fun place to explore. VERY DUSTY RIDING though. So bring goggles. Bring a flashlight to explore the many many mines out there. Some of them you can go back a ways.

That is why I am fitting a trip to Johnson Valley this weekend!

Posted by: HappywithVForce

I love to see topless girls in a Jeep.......I mean girls in a topless Jeep....You know what I mean.

Posted by: HappywithVForce

I am leaving sat morning for Johnson Valley. It is only 50 or so miles from my house (through the mountains). So it is a day ride for me.

Thanks for the "dust" warning . . . we're pretty used to that though. I even wear a particle mask inside my helmet - those really help. That way, I'm not blowing dirt out of my nose for the next two days.

Posted by: Ridinfolks

Yeah, I'm sure my husband would like that too! I'll keep checking here to see if you post where you're going riding in the future - we're always looking for other families to ride with too.

We're thinking about going out this weekend, but don't have the kid this time, and haven't decided where yet. Want to try something different and has to be RV accessible (Crab Flats is out of the question - I looked that up and it doesn't look like an RV can get back there, and it said the campsites are only 15 ft.) I'm going to pull some things up on the internet and give a look . . . maybe that Johnson Valley you're all talking about?

I know that it would be hot but my cousin said that it was a blast I was wondering if it was true or not or if it was going to be boring
