Still out here...just mainly lurking. Work is kicking my butt lately. But as long as you can build up your confidence, the longer fall you will have. Did I tell you I got a campsite for Dunefest. Lot E.

Posted by: kiley123

Bear, I am going to be there on Thursday at Dunefest. Just need to buy a trailer...I think I got the ok from the boss. Know anyone? I can't wait...been shining up the quad...

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you, been travelling quite a bit.

P

Posted by: kiley123

ok...got a trailer. I am ready for Dunfest. I think I am leaving Thursday morning should be there around noon. Can't wait to tear you up Bear....

Posted by: kiley123

Can't make it...I'll be out of town in Cali. No riding though

Posted by: kiley123

Bear,
Let me know when.

Posted by: kiley123

Bear, I should be available for the Glamis trip. We'll talk more about how to do it. Palm Springs Airport looks like a good bet.

Posted by: kiley123

Bear,
I should be able to go for MLK weekend since I had already planned the Glamis trip. I want to meet some more people this time.

Hope everyone is having some good holidays.

Paul

Posted by: kiley123

Motel should be fine. I haven't gone high class camping. You'll have to show me how to do that. The family may want to go then.

Posted by: kiley123

Bear, I am back from the other hemisphere. I might be able to go somewhere close this weekend for a day trip. Call me on the cell.

Posted by: kiley123

Bear,
Sorry I couldn't make it yesterday. Sounds like it would've been fun to watch you try to accelerate. I may have been able to take you on a couple of turns. (yeah right) Anyway, let me know what weekend you are planning to go to the sand since that is more my style anyway.

P

Posted by: kiley123

Bear, I would kill for some pictures of Chris rolling his new quad.

Posted by: kiley123

Bear,
I am down for the Pres day trip. Call me. The fam is staying at home.

Posted by: kiley123

Hey look I am here too. Bear, give me a call sometime.

Posted by: kiley123

Sand? What is this sand stuff you talk about?

Posted by: dadygrl

Hi there,
I live in Vancouver and we love to play in the mud at Browns camp, Capitol State Forest and enjoy the poker runs at Jones Creek. We are headed up to Tahuya for the poker run this weekend, it will be our first time riding up there. I'm curious about the riding spot mentioned by hondablue, where on hwy 14 is it?

Thanks!

Posted by: dadygrl

How was Jones Creek? I am dying to get up there but can't find the time!

Aside from bumping this thread up a few notches to keep it alive... we're smack talkin' on the PSAR thread... You guys are invited to COME-GIT-U-SUM at Longview, the Chit-Hole Racers competing for braggin rights... (the few PSAR members that rat-race at Beverly)

There were a few questions on our thread 'bout the rules published by the track... I e-mailed the track and they said wheelie bars are not required for quads in the adult classes if you aren't doing excessive wheelies. All minors under 16 require wheelie bars...

Bear... you gonna show us what that DSX can do????

Looking hard at the weekend of 7,8 May. Puget Sound guys, I post there too! And you all are welcome whereever you are from! Ride on!

Posted by: SandyBear

Hey Hondablue, Have you been up to Jonescreek yet this year? I heard that it was still closed but it says the trails open April 1. Am I wrong?

Ken

Posted by: SandyBear

Thanks Chad400ex, Im thinking of a quick trip tonight up to Jones Creek. Ill report on the condition of the trails for those that are interested.

Ken

Posted by: SandyBear

If you take 4th plain east from 164th, go towards Larch Mt. Ill try to pull the directions out. Its only 10 minutes east of that intersection. Good trails, but tight. And some rocks are hard on the rims. FYI. Be careful of the bridges for sidewall gashes---nails. I ride the rails of the bridge instead of sliding tires in trusses. Good advice.

Ken

Posted by: SandyBear

jonescreektrailriders.org is the site for the Jones Creek. I think that will guide you up there. They are a great club. Nice folk with a good purpose.

Posted by: SandyBear

We made it down to Sand Lake on Sunday. Got down there just after what was described as a "Monsoon" of a rainstorm had just passed. (We, fortunately, did not see it). Sand was nice and not all chopped up. And the sun stayed with us all day to darken all exposed skin and burned some (Mrs.DSsideup) BR>
But it was a great day of riding. Afterburner showed up to ride with his wicked fast ALBA sponsored Raptor minus the rocket booster. I wanted to see that thing in person. But he spanked me good, even giving me a 6 bike length head start.and he was 3 bikes ahead of me at-least at the top. (Got to be conservative on the distance to save face).

He was having some problems with his cylinder seal and was losing oil and compression. But he spanked everything out there, even some fast Powroll equipped 770cc Raptors. For those of you that have never seen this bike, it is a must. He has a good runner. Go to Team Alba Motorsports and look at the video. Man, its cool without the afterburner on it.

Terry left having problems with the gasket and losing too much oil unfortunately. DSsideup and I went to shoot the trees and tease a few new KFX700 owners until they had tasted enough sand from our roost. Good clean competition always is fun. Thanks guys. It was fun!

We stayed until 7pm and were tired and hungry. Then off to dinner and the long 1-1/2 hour trip home. LOL.

Hope some of you make it next time.

Thinking of a late afternoon trip to Jones creek tomorrow. Prob at 5pm or so.

Posted by: SandyBear

Thanks for the info Raptorchick. Seems like riding quads only gets better and better here in the NW!BR>
Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend, those that dont have to work

Posted by: SandyBear

Heading out to Florence tomorrow morning (Wednesday 2nd June).

Posted by: SandyBear

Riding was great. Sand was all dried out, heard that it was too wet on Mem day. The wind groomed things well, but it did sandblast you a bit if you stayed on top of the razors too long. Sunny and warm though. T shirt and shorts weather. oregon riding is great!

We are going to be there from June 24th thru July 2nd, at Driftwood.

We will probably make a run to Winchester Bay some time during the week. Can't stand to be that close to those big dunes and not hit them.

We will be at driftwood starting on the 2nd through the 6th of july. In the middle spaces directly across from the showers. Look for me on the Baja X and buddy Chris DSideup. Jeep Wrangler and F150 Supercrew (White).

Come introduce yourself and have a beer!

Ken

Posted by: SandyBear

Ill be pulling in sometime after noon with the Wrangler and a couple of toys. I hope to see ya there.

Posted by: SandyBear

Im still going, maybe I wont be riding like I normally do (aggressive), but this trip has been planned for too long to let an injured back keep my toes out of the sand.

Posted by: SandyBear

Nah, nothing as dramatic. Moving a doggone trailer at work. Its driving me nuts being on light duty and being "office boy"! You should hear the stupid phone calls I get from the public! I think some of them actually need help with instructions on how to breathe!

Im still going to ride next week regardless. I have been planning this trip all year!

Posted by: SandyBear

Back from the Oregon Coast. Weekend was great. I improved the "kids" riding skills by spending alot of time riding at their speed for once. They loved the follow the leader routine this time!

Junior actually caught a little air on the Warrior! ( 2 inches!) Woo hoo! He is the most conservative rider! He now decited that an automatic transmission sucks.

My next ride will be to Oregon Dune Fest when I return from NYC. Hope to see some of you there!

Ken

Posted by: SandyBear

Playing in New York City and thinking about riding. Ahhhhh dunefest is getting closer.

Posted by: SandyBear

Kiley123 and I are rounding up a few for some trail riding at Jones Creek ORV in the hills east of Vancouver tomorrow at 5pm. Anyone interested, meet us there! Got 4 of us going so far. Should be free of dust with the recent weather change. Little mud is good for the complexion, the women tell usBR>
Ken

Posted by: SandyBear

It was a good ride, but a bit wet, huh Paul? Hope some of the rest of you can join us next time.

Posted by: SandyBear

Im still here, but the computer has been dead. Hope some of you can make it to the halloween atv world record to ride.

Reminder of the Amity ATV Parade. Hope to see ya there.

Posted by: SandyBear

A few of us are going riding on the 30th to either Winchester or Florence if anyone is interested in meeting up down there for some winter riding NW style. Hope a few others can make it.

Posted by: SandyBear

May be changing the date to the First for a New Years ride. Usually the day I do a Polar Bear Ride on the Jet Ski, but a ride in the sand sounds more enticing than frozen knuts.

Posted by: SandyBear

Yeah, was pm'ing Glenn and thinking of coming on down there. Never ridden there and what better way to start out the new year than to explore new sand Look for a yell/black baja x. Ill either be in the White F150 Super Crew or the Lil' Truck (Green Toyota 2wd). See ya on the 1st.

Ken

PS Keep yer shorts clean, Id like to do a group shot for the mag. (Dirt Wheels). (Helmets Required).

HeHeHe. I been riding around, slipping around on snow all to (#*^$(# much this week. LOL. I guess as far as a ride in the slippery stuff goes these past few days, I should say "your place or mine?"

We cancelled the trip to the sand on sunday, too darn treacherous. Ive been put on mandatory 12's and dont know what will happen on sunday, my day off. Prolly gonna get called in

Posted by: SandyBear

Guess Id better get a day off to ride. I guess I can come for an overniter. Brrr. Hope its warmer than that last trip. LOL.

Ill see yall there!

Afterburner, why dont you join us and bring that warming hut of yours. Or the space heater that is mounted on the back of your swingarm, with the setting on LOOOOOOW!

Posted by: SandyBear

Thanks for the information. All that can attend should do everything they can to be there. This bill would change alot of things for us for the better. And really open up our riding in Washington the way that it should be!

Posted by: SandyBear

There is a nice place to rent from in Clackamas. Close by. I plan on doing a rental for Dunefest and maybe for a trip to St.Anthonys. When I go back to work on wed, ill get the # fer ya.

Posted by: SandyBear

Depends on what type of riding ya do. Currently, our closest ORV park (Jones Creek) in east Vancouver, is closed for the season. There are some choice local tracks. The closest one to you is in Woodland, driving towards Cougar. Then there is Washougal or Longview.

Occasionally we get together and drive to Goldendale to ride Eddieville or Starvation Ridge. You can see their website at overthebarsgang.com. Mostly, the folk on this forum post head southeast for the Oregon Dunes. We are going the last week of February, youre welcome to join us!

Good luck.

Sandbomber. You cant race that team race with yer perty bike. But we'll let ya come and ride it in the sand with us. I thought the next race was in March? Is this the one at Eddieville? (Goldendale).

Posted by: SandyBear

Im going out MX this weekend, but not sure where. Maybe Goldendale. Ill advise. Sunday AM.

Posted by: SandyBear

Lets head down on the 26th in the AM. Get a ride in the PM and send the light hearted ones (sand princesses) to do their $$shopping$$(ouch), motel check in etc and then maybe meet for a dinner somewhere?

Maybe find someone that can tuck our rides in at the campground overnite. (That way we'll be able to set Sandbomber to bed with his Crown). BR>

Posted by: SandyBear

Paulie, when do you want to get together to assess your walls?

Ill have to mention the spring break to the boss. See what she thinks. Sounds good to me though.

Wish I could go again. Last weekend was great. A bit choppy as the sand was still a bit wet and needs a good storm there. But any day at the dunes is good, choppy or not. Have a good trip and give us a report when ya get back!

Id love to ride this Sunday, but got some chores to do fer the Sgt.Major (Mrs.Bear). I hope you have a blast. The weather is great! I think it is time for the jetski to come out of it's warm winter spot in the Bear's Den.........hmmmmmmmm.

2fun, are you going to be able to join us for the Mayday get together at Driftwood?

The Bear

Posted by: SandyBear

Welcome to the Forum MKbaja. You will have to keep in touch. Some of us are planning a ride at the end of the month, linking up with some of the folks from the Puget Sound for a campout and ride. We plan on going to Driftwood campground from the 29th of April to the 2nd of May.

Im hoping to ride on the 16th and 17th of April at Florence also, dont know who is going on that one yet, but its been a month and I just replaced my worn down paddles and gotta break the new ones in!

If you want, you are welcome to join us. Especially since you ride the preferred breed......Bombardier! BR>But anyone is welcome! We just like good times and good folk! Hope to see ya around!

Im thinking of throwing my neck into a noose and telling the wife that the weather looks to dreary for me to ride tomorrow, especially if it is just to ride at Sand Lake.......shes gonna grab the honey-do list for sure. Ouch. Maybe riding in the rain aint such a bad idea after all...lol

Posted by: SandyBear

Ouch, did you say LaGrande? Thats a long ways away from the good sand. Except being closer than us to St. A's dunes.

Looking forward to the ride at the end of the month, since I didnt ride today. Bummer.

I'm always lookin for some new people to ride with, even if you're are riden a lesser bike than a yamaha! just kidden!

You can also find us coming from South Jetty if you run the flats parallell to the swamp area (the swamp is between the dunes and the beach). Go all the way south to the sand access road,at the south end of the flats/swamp and follow it to Driftwood 2. But we will have quite the campsite! And even better if Sandbomber shows up with his Crown! LOL. Hope to see ya there.

Ya gotta drive south of Florence to Siltcoos rec area. It is farther south than Honeyman. It is the farthest south riding area on the Florence area dunes. Can anyone remember what the signs say? If anything, stop at south jetty and pick up the USFS map and use that for reference. Its only about 5-10 mins south of Florence though. Past the lake that is on the left. Hope to see ya there.

For the rest of ya, lets get ready to roll! Im heading out Thursday nite. PSAR, sorry, Ill try to be quiet sneaking in for a nap in the middle of the night!

Kiley123, Ill call ya tomorrow. Youre welcome to come and pick up my trailer to haul yer neon Zuki down the there. Ill save us two spaces.

Thanks to the PSAR group for having us down for such a great time at Florence last weekend. It was the first time I ever left the dunes being glad to go home for being soooooo tired. OneFlyCowboy made comment of being stopped behind a M/C wreck on 126 that delayed us. I was glad to be stopped for once! I got to take a nap in the middle of the trip!I was whooped! We stopped in Eugene for a visit with DiSideup's parents and we probably still beat some of you home with us getting in to PDX about 10p. But thanks to you all for making the long haul! I really enjoyed meeting you all.

Im building the CD now to send to 2manyTools (Yes, he has been rename). I guess he should be called too many gadgets, cause Karl has just about everything tucked in with him for a trip to the sand! LOL.

Thanks for all the help with the Blaster too. Ryan was a bit shy, his dad doing this internet dating thing and all. LOL. He is my best keeper. He said to tell you all thanks and that he needs a Predator, not a Blaster. LOL. Another thanks to Karl for the suggestion by example. (His dad gave HIM a predator!) LOL.

I think I will look into the June dates. I was considering a trip in June to St. Anthonys around the 15th though. May make a trip on the 1st of June for an overniter with yall to Horsfall. You can show me around there some more!

Yall be safe, and the ones that missed this one, dont miss out on the next gathering. We had a blast!

Out,

I like them all also, but for the drive, Florence is probably the most fun. There is alot of variety there. I liked Horsfal for the treeshoots though. I think they were the most challenging. Those were the best. Winchester is also alot of fun, but I tend to get bored there even though the dunes are taller. Its great to say I have so many choices to ride at...decisions, decisions. LOL. I could be somewhere that had no sand riding, like some. Bummer.

Some of you mentioned coming to Dunefest. Anyone got solid plans? Sorry I sound like a broken record, but I am stoked about this year's event. And hopefully riding my new YFZ that I hope to add to the stable.

The Bear

Posted by: SandyBear

Naw, its nothing like that. There are alot of events in the event area, but Ive never felt crowded at any Dunefest event. You want to ride, then its wide open. Most people are crowding around the events. Its a great time and we are trying to add some more fun events to test everyones skills. Not just the pro riders. Its a family event. I won't ever let them forget that, as long as I can have an influence on the events that are lining up. You should see the raffle give away items this year. You can score big!

The Bear.BR>
Yep, I did say Yamaha. But Ill still keep my favorite DS. Cant beat that plush smooth ride. Much softer on the big landings too!

Posted by: SandyBear

Glad to hear it. Look for me at the ALBA area. Ill be slinging the grub on the first day, dont know from there. Heres the site.....

A new land speed record is about to be set here in Oregon for our sport.....stay tuned for info.

Big O Bear will try to keep up for some pics and a story....

I may be going down with the PSAR group the weekend of the 4th of June. That may be my only ride day for the month of June. Got to get the water toys out to play too. Looking for some good weather!

Posted by: SandyBear

OK Yall, Im back to being a human again. Done with that ridiculous month I worked. At least the last 14 hour day on Tuesday. I gotta ride!!!! In a bad way. Lets get a plan on!

The Bear

Posted by: SandyBear

Ive got two days of "use it or lose it" leave I gotta use by the end of June, so lets try to get a ride planned before the July Month hits. How about the 24,25 and 26th of June?

The Bearimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif" border="0">

Posted by: SandyBear

Yeah, Im thinking of Florence definitely. Hope some more of yall can come. Be nice to finally have 2 fun take a break from school and meet up with us for some sand slinging!

The Bear

Posted by: SandyBear

Tree shots and Bear holes.........

Yep, ready for them now more than ever. Larger 22 inch rear tires and 10 paddles helped out alot on the last trip. Now gotta get the new heel guards and pegs so they dont rub. Might be cheaper going to a longer swingarm. Hey, its Father's day coming up, right?

Anyways, we're hoping you can show us some "unventured ground" in Florence. I think we have hit it all, but not quite sure. I almost refuse to go to Sand Lake anymore. Maybe once a year. But I always get bored there. Florence is worth the extra drive.

One thing we found to be fun at the end of a day when our mental edge is diminished is "follow the leader" around the dune grasses. Can everyone make it up that sharp steep hill after that "unexpected" sharp right turn?

Now Im really getting the itch to go.........

The Bear

Posted by: SandyBear

Ya go down to the beach and ride the berm between the swamp and the beach. Man, its a blast if ya try to keep it in a sequence! Can be pretty challenging too. We always try to lose kiley123, with his California driving instincts and all, but even he keeps up. Ya just wonder what happened when you hear that pipe of his go silent............

We had some fun sidehilling last time though, but I found that my new treads didnt like the sidehilling like my skat edges do. But still had fun.

Well, off to bed now.

Gnite.

The Bear

Posted by: SandyBear

Note my change from "idiot" holes to "BEAR HOLES". LOL, theres a reason for that, or there used to be!!!!

Posted by: SandyBear

Yeah, we always loose sissy's like Kiley123 on those side hills Just checking to see if you are still out there Paulie. LOL.

The Bear

Posted by: SandyBear

Anyone still planning on riding the last weekend of this month? June 25 and 26?

Bear

Posted by: SandyBear

Sounds like youre out a ride that weekend Chris. Bummer.

Posted by: SandyBear

Still waiting on IMS Roll to finish making my (#@*# heel plates. Cant ride with my fenders slopping. (*#@(#@* backorders. The new pegs feel great though.

Ken

Posted by: SandyBear

Hey Yall, less than 30 til dunefest! Alot of anticipation for this year! I see the UPS man on Tuesday with my new IMS Roll Heelguards, and Im ready for the Sand. What a wait! My tire change to the 22 extremes. New tires, new rims, new heel guards and then also new pegs to fit those heelguards. Well, for those of you going to Dunefest, chime up. Ill be in the Alba pit, so stop on by for a ride. Jr now has his bike as well, a predator 90. Broke it in today on a friend's farm. He had a blast, but said what any dune addict would say after going round and round on a field....."Dad, I like the sand alot better!" Kid after my own heart!

Hope to hear from more of you going. Ill be there on Sunday evening before the event setting up.

Ken

Posted by: SandyBear

17 days to go... but who's counting? SAND!!!!!!!

Posted by: SandyBear

Ah, but you still have 16 days to conspire! One must not miss our local event. H Bomb is going to be there, doing several shows. This should be the ramp-up to how dunefest should be in the future!

Lawless partiers stay away, but good, responsible socially appropriate and respectful families that love a good time and good entertainment, enjoy! Lets have some fun!

Bear

Posted by: SandyBear

And have a few beers! (or a good round of Crown and Coke) sandbomber.......

6 more days. WOohOOO!

Posted by: SandyBear

Im out the door, heading for Dunefest. (Early). Look for me in RV Lot #1 in Black F150 Supercrew and Motorhome "DW HQ". See ya there!

Posted by: SandyBear

Glad someone is bumping up the thread. I think I should try to make it, seeing as I did not ride in August or Sept. Been working too damn hard. Ill see if I can squeeze a space out of Res NW. I think I need to re-submit that group shot, the boss hasnt said anything about it, and he asked me to resend an article I sent in when I sent the group shot it. Bummer, but lets hope for a sunny day, find a bitchin spot for a shot and lets all wear a Halloween mask to make it more interesting. LOL.

Ken .

Posted by: SandyBear

Dang 2manytools, I gotta work those days (weekends are on my regular schedule) and Ive taken too much leave for weekends-off to be able to take any more. (My LT is cutting me off!)

Im planning on going to Florence over the 14,15 and 16th to be with you all for the PSAR fall get together at Driftwood!BR>
Remind everyone that we are going to try to keep the world record for most ATV's in a parade on Saturday October 29th in Amity,Oregon. The record was resubmitted for by a midwest group this summer, so we need to up the number to over 600 four wheeled "ridden" atvs. Odysseys, threewheelers and sandcars do not count). So I hope to see some turnout from the PSAR group if possible. Please, Please, Please!

Ride safe!

We're all going to be at Florence (Driftwood 2) all weekend. I want to do a group shot at Sunset on Saturday, near where we set up for the group shot last time. (Southeast end of the riding area for better light / color). We hope 2fun can make it Saturday with us, as most of them northerners drift back early sunday morning, with a few more hours of driving than us southerners.

I cant wait.

Maybe I should find a way to go down the day after Turkey Day. Depends on when my bike is running again too. Carb problems. I borrowed a carb from TVI Powerandsports, as I couldnt resolve my problem with the bowl sticking open. Ill check it out. It would be great to meet up with ya mkbaja and kiley too. Man, Id love to come down Patrick, but I just put in the bid for some time off at xmas. Boss only has 9 of us left for the Portland area, and the only bargain I have with him is that I worked this weekend for him and even put in some overtime. Anyone wanting to check out some good new product should hit this show! I hope it goes well and the weather cooperates!

I hope to ride in the early parts of December, but its going to have to be a weekday, until the end of the month. I do want to go south in January to FOU R STR OKE WA .......... R .....s on MLK weekend too.

Browns Camp in the Tillamook Forest off of Hwy 6 (milepost 32) is open. Jones Creek in Vancouver/Camas is closed (trails) but ppl still ride the forest roads. There are still open areas up in the Mt. Hood forest, just not on established Snowparks or snowmobile trails. (Closed to wheeled traffic Nov 1st). Let me know if you find any other legal places to ride locally. Id like to know!

Bear

Posted by: SandyBear

try going to www.trailsource.com and find your local area.

I think the Gifford Pinchot office of the USFS would have the map you would want. Their HQ is here in Vancouver as well.

Also a great place to ride is at www.overthebarsgang.com Its a bit of a drive and $20.00 per vehicle, but great place to ride and the track was a blast. They had a small mx track just for kids only too. Its east of Troutdale in Washington. Click on the eddieville link on their site.

Keep in touch, I would be glad to invite you along on my next ride with Jr. (10yrs) rides a predator 90.

I was told January. Then February. Now March. Hmmmm. Im losing hope. May wait to the 07 model is there, so the bugs are out of it.

Ride Sunday was a bit disappointing anyways. It was raining sideways. We had a few breaks and I got to ride Afterburners new Raptor 700 for the first time, before his project takes off. Thanks to Cycle Sports Salem!

Look for that one with Powroll doing the engine mods and more than likely, it will be dolled up to perfection with ALBA and Modquad goods!

My bikes carb finally bit it for good. The intake tube for the gas is all rusted out and corroded. Buying a new one soon. I borrowed a carb from TVI Power and sports, and unfortunately, forgot it at home on the bench. So the Raptor ride was my only ride.

For that bike, you would be better avoiding the local shops and hitting the online parts stores. You can find some bargains on older stuff for that bike! The dealer will still chage MSRP for anything. Also, give forum member Sandbomber and his new business a shot in about a week when he gets his store online.

Glad to have ya aboard and in the PNW! Stay away from Curtis Trailer Sales. There are a few trailer sales (cargo) on Columbia Blvd that seem pretty good to deal with. Also Carlson Trailers in Sandy,Oregon are really nice folks.

I would recommend Portland Motorcycle Company in NE Portland for your Kawi brands. Friends dont let friends buy from ProCaliber (AKA Dick Hannah). Like going to a retail car dealership with sloppy sales & service. Boo. (Yeah, what comes around, goes around, eh ProCaliber?)

Hey Rod,

I was down there two weekends ago, and the campground was closed for the season. But the lot is open and they allow overnite camping there, as long as you pay the day use fee. Or if you decide to venture out on the sand with the trailer (it is really wet and hard packed sand), that is ok too. No booze outside of organized camping areas, so nothing allowed in the lot, from my recollection. The camp host was a bit of a NAZI, imo, you can tell him that I said that too. He probably has no idea who I was. I used to work in Tillamook County, when I started out with the State. I still know most of the crew down there at the sand doing the enforcement. But nonetheless, he was a jerk and had a bit of an ego with whatever authority he thought he had!

I wish I could steer you all down to Florence. Hey, just tell the group to cut out two of their pit stops and that will make up the difference in time!!! LOL. Come on down!

Look forward to seeing you all again!

Rod,

Did you ever make it down to Florence this weekend or were you kept back by the weather reports? Man, it was beautiful riding. Mid to high 50's in sunny daytime weather with very little wind. Evenings were fire huggers though, dropping down to 22 degrees with clear skies. Thank god for no wind!

We had a great time with Afterburner , DS Sleuth and especially RToys and his family who joined us from the south. It was a great time with great friends. Poor Afterburner had heating problems in his coach and also problems with his rocketship Raptor, blew a seal.

I love my new LTR450 Quadracer. Man, that is a fun bike. Best out of the box bike I have ever ridden. SSMMMMOOOTTHE. Hats off to the Suzuki crowd. They built a great bike.

Im trying to figure on a place to ride this weekend. I am considering going MX track with the kids, as the coast looks like rain, rain, rain. And i want to strecth out that LTR where it was designed to run. The MX.

Goldendale Eddieville Maybe
Longview Mx.
Castlerock.
Or is Washougal open for practice?

Or maybe just Sand Lake. Hmmmm.

Gotta be close as it is going to be a day ride only with the kids.

Let me know if anyone is interested, especially those of us with the fresh Brazilian Tans. Ho Ho.

My next trip to the sand may have to wait until April. Bummer. Still hitting the local MX track though.

Bear

Posted by: SandyBear

Rode again at the Longview track. It was a great time. Met some new quad guys that informed me they were practicing for next weekends 4 hour race at Eddieville in Goldendale Washington.

Put the new twist throttle on the LTR today, hoping that it would reduce the sore thumb. DS never gave me that. But woke up this morning to grip glue that never cured in the cooler garage and had to safety wire the grip so that I could ride. Bummer. Instead of having one twist throttle, I had two. A bit interesting, to say the least. Finally cured by the end of the day.

Im going down Saturday to Hauser. FULLBORE has their retreat house there. Going to have a great time riding around with Jeff and Grant, as they are the experts on the trails around there. Should be a great time. I have to work on Friday Night, so Ill have to drive down to get a Sat afternoon ride in and then Sunday. Im going to motel it in Coos or N.Bend, as a bit cold and I dont want to drag the gas guzzling M Home for such a short weekend.

im heading out rain or shine for Hauser. Gotta ride!

Bear

Posted by: SandyBear

Great ride at Hauser this weekend. DS came back with a worn out clutch. TOO much power for the stock setup. The LTR does great on the sand even without paddle tires. Getting back on a DS was some work, as I jumped on DiSideups quad. BTW, he lived up to his nick, and repented with another trip down the embankment. Quad landed Dissideup, but he was spitting out some sand and rubbing a squished buttox. The passers-by on Hwy 101 had quite a show. Love ya christopherburrito! LOL

Bear

Posted by: SandyBear

Now that would have been a picture, but remember, his wife is WAY smarter than he is. (Not that Chris is big and dumb). Big he has no problem with, but dumb he holds in reserve....sometimes. Anyways, she said not only no to him taking the new green Kawi with us so we could "Break her in right", she said HE!! NO! And a darn good thing that she did!

Chris left the cabin, drove 20 feet down the trail that leads to the riding area and the next thing he knows, the DS is looking for a new headlight and trying to catch a ride with a passing motorist on US 101. So there sat that new bright green Kawi, where Cyn though it should remain during the "boys weekend out", in the garage. High, Dry and free of abuse. Bummer.

My LTR saved the day for me though, as the clutch went out on the DS.

Ken

This race, on the 20th anniversary, is on a 2006 LTR 450. The bikes have gotten better and the riders have gotten......, well, I will leave it at that! BR>

Had a great time riding with 2 fun and Rtoyz at Winchester on Saturday. Sun shone on, but the wind blew harder. Was a great day. 2fun got to see the LTR momentarily on her first cristening with the wheels up topside, momentarily. One should not ride when he is that tired!

Saturday is the trip to Goldendale for MX freedays. ATVs MX bikes kids dads moms. All welcome. Gate fee I think is still only 20 bucks and has a sound check for the noisy ones. DS aint going to that one!

Practice Practice Practice.

BTW, thanks for the good ride on Sat guys!

Hey you guys, STOP!!!! it. I mean, that pumping and bleeding stuff. Now the lil one went out to Eddieville last week and was whining about his brakes. I thought he was complaining about my adjustment of the brake lever until I tried to back it off the trailer...whoaaaa!!!! Wheres the brakes?

All that pumping and bleeding you guys did, it rubbed off on the poor lil guys brakes! LOL. Off to see the polaris dealer tomorrow for some new shoes. Thank god I dont have to pump and bleed anything with you two so mesmerised with eachother! ROFL!

Take care,

Ken

I decided to cancel all riding for moms day weekend. I raced yesterday and it was way too much for my back to handle. So Id better lay off if I want to keep riding this summer. I guess I strained something in my neck and shoulders worse than I thought.

I am hoping to head to the sand at least one more time before Dunefest, but with this jump into racing, that takes about all of me. BTW Jr took 1st place in his first moto. It was his first time racing! Then he got too anxious and took a jump too hard. Landed and the wheel sunk into the mud and he turned her over. Slowed his gain on the leader to 4th place. Couldnt get caught up and took 4th in the 2nd moto. Took 3rd for the overall.

Now I am realizing how much that 3rd is going to cost me. Suspension. Tires. Tuning. etc. Phew, those lil minis aint cheap!

Hope all is going well with everyone else.

It is killing me to stay off of the bike this weekend, knowing that you all are out having fun. I tore into the clutch of the predator today for some much needed maintenence. Man, was it neglected. Had barnicles growing inside on the aluminum!

Got to get it ready for next weekends races. The LTR is so much easier to work with!

Hope you moms have a super Mothers Day! Thanks for all that you do! And for letting us ride! And for riding with us!

Thinking of heading there this summer and wondering what it's like.

Ah, its actually Browns Camp. Yeah, its a great place to ride and to camp. The spaces are all gravel, but there are restrooms there and the trails are great! Be sure to pick up a map of the area from the State Forestry Department as it is easy to get lost up there! And carry extra fuel if you venture far. This is not close to services or highways to walk out for help. So ride with buddies and learn the area before you venture too far. GPS is strongly suggested.

I hope you have a blast.

Man, Its been awhile since I logged in on the Forum. Well, I guess I have been busy, some of you know.

Mama and the kids are settled into our new temporary residence in Maryland and she started her new job as a school administrator on July 5th. I will be joining her eventually after the house sells here and the job situation pans out for me there. Maryland SP has started processing my application, so I have some trips back there to go through that process.

Still here in Vancouver/Portland until at least December or January. Ive been racing in NW Quad Nationals www.fantomzatv.com over the summer and learning the MX art on the LTR, or what abuse it is to my body. (Man, Im out of shape! LOL).

Aaron is doing well at it too on his Mod Predator 90. That thing is back at www.nwmotowinner.com for some more of Jason Day's tuning and ridability mods. If you have a youth quad, want one that performs well, Id send you to him first.

Hope all is going well with everyone and that I get a chance to see all of you before I go east. I hope to be back for Dunefest 07 and at least every other year as vacation allows. Its off to GNCC country and NASCAR racing for me later this year!

Man, we let this thread get too far behind! All is well here. Wont be riding for a couple of weeks, letting the back heal.

J.

The closest "real" dune area is Florence for us. Sand lake is like riding in a quarry. Boring. But ok for a day trip. I usually make my day trips to Florence, as it takes me 3 hours to get there. Well worth it for the best riding closest to us.

Wish only a back massage would cure this one. MRI revealed a partially slipped disc. Cant even do any forward or twisting stretches now. Waiting for physical therapy to resolve. Im off work until ??? Its screwing everything up for me, especially the move to Maryland.

This one has been a wake up call for me though. I have to go easy on my back. I really saw the light of what it would be like to be disabled permanently by a back injury. It sucks.

I hope to make a trip to the sand, to put myself behind a camera and get some shots for the mag of the project LTR I have been working on. Its looking good. Ill post pics when I get closer to done.

Bummer that I was asleep at the wheel and missed the Jones Creek cleanup. That is a great club that goes to great lengths to keep our local areas open and ridable. Joe, keep us informed on when the next cleanup is.

For those of you that know him, Ketch is coming in on Monday for a 3 day business trip here in Oregon. Dont think he will make the dunes, but will be out catching some 4x4 action near Mt. Hood. Look for that in January issue.

Working on the LTR. Probably go shoot that next week Mon or Tues. Depends on time availability. Sean, you are welcome to come down if you like. Prolly going to just use Sand Lake, as it is close and has treeshots.

We did 4 days at Coos bay. It rain just about non stop except Saturday, that was almost t shirt weather. We were able to ride to spinreel and out to the beach and back, without a rain drop.

I finally went into a hole I couldn't get out of, without help. My brother took me to it and said only skinny guys on 700's could make it. I dropped down in and was thinking crap I can't see the bottom yet. Turned around and got about a quad from the first level bench. Tried 3 more time to same spot each try. It took 4 of us to drag it that last quad length. Atleast I have finally found a challenge, I guess.

I have a Warn winch for the LTR 450 for the Magazine Project. Yet to take the pics. Wheres yo hole at? LOL. Warn should have the mock up done here really soon.

Been awhile since I saw you TP. Hows the family doing?

Take care,

Wow TP. That is awesome. I know you are one proud pop! Look forward to seeing you all in the near future. When is the next big PSAR trip like the one we had in Florence? Ill set it on my calendar!

I will be attending the Pres Day Weekend with you. Me and Aaron.

Anyone else? Any single ladies? LOL!

Ken

Posted by: SandyBear

Paulie,

Youre in. Greg Hoover found me a spot at Discovery point. Be roughing it in the ol sled trailer. So bring a warm bag and air mattress. I have plenty of room for you bike. I will leave on Friday during the day, returning Monday sometime when I get tired of riding. Thinking of hitting another dune too while Im down, Florence or Spinreel.

Ken

Thanks,

Pres day would be a good time to meet up with some folk from this thread. Also the Temporary Insandity crowd is going down too that weekend to Florence. No space in their campground, I was bumped out. But you can use the South Jetty day access and still link up with that great family oriented group! I strongly recommend them. Check out temporaryinsandity.com for info. Tell Patrick I sent you.
