we have a hunting camp in ellery center and i have driven past and talked to cops driving down the road and they generally dont mind it. the only problem is that the roads are covered in a "high stick" coating for higher traction in the winter and it eats tires like theres no tomorrow

There are some small exceptions, but in NY it is illegal to ride your ATV basically anywhere unless you own the land. It is illegal to ride ANYWHERE unless your ATV is registered and if you ride off of your own property you must have insurance for it.

Exceptions are www.trailpass.com (which I believe has a trail in Corning) and specific area up north.
