Rottweiler, just ask a buddy to let you ride theirs, most people would let you take a spin on their quad as long as you show some respect to the quad, if you were closer I would let you take one of mine for a spin.. Some dealers let you test ride them, find one that does, and check it out. You will find plenty of people to ride with here and on the forum quadbart has..now go have some fun!

If your looking for people and places to ride in Illinois check out ATV TrailMasters club You'll meet some pretty cool people to ride with and you'll have to put up with guys like DStroyer. LOL
If your looking for ATVs to rent before you buy check out the Cheese county trails in Wisconsin. Theres a place up there that rents them out by the hour,
"DS", you got the name to that place?

Mr. Quadbart,

That name is Mikes Engine Works. He is in Darlington.

By the way, do you think you will be able to make the trip there next weekend? Im not sure if Bean can make it yet. But I think Im gonna go, just to show off Andi's new graphics. Bruce should be done with it on Monday or Tuesday.

Rottweiler,
The link that quadbart gave you is the best site for finding riders throughout Illinois. No idiots in there, just good people that like to get out and play every weekend. There is always someone going somewhere.

Rottweiler, Welcome to the forums!

I live about 30 miles from Chicago, i am in Northwest Indiana.. I ride the at the badlands every now and then.. I will be going up to silver lake Michigan quite a bit this summer... There is a place in Michigan City Indiana near the prison you can ride, i have never been there though...

Really Chicago Land area sucks for riding, If you know someone with land and they let you ride on it then this area is fun, if not you can run out of places to ride fast...

There are some nice in trails in Michigan and when I lived in IL I could make the trips to some of the trails in 5 hours. Just a thought for a weekends. Rockford also has a offroad park.

I am very new to the ATV hobby and would like to start in riding. My concern is where is the closest place one can ride near Chicago? Thanks guys for sharing your knowledge!

Posted by: Rottweiler

Thanks alot guys for the responses. Does anyone know where and if there is one in Rockford, IL as stated above and do any of these places rent ATV's to try out before I jump in and purchase one?

Posted by: Rottweiler

You guys are awesome, thanks for all the info. I look forward to being a part of this forum!!

Yeah I here time and time again about this Elgin spot. It's by the Industrial park, take the Nicor dirt road back, etc.. but I have no clue where it is. Does anyone ????????

Thanks,
Chuck

Hey thanks for the reply!!! I see you're in Streamwood.....I spent half my summer there last year at Ralff Woods fields coaching softball. I went up off of Randall road, since I heard to look around there in the past, but had no clue where to go last summer once I got there. Where do you guys park your trailer and jump on a trail at?

Thanks again,
Chuck

Posted by: Rottweiler

Anyone know where exactly it is that you can park your truck/trailer and get on the trail?

Posted by: Rottweiler

I'm up for going just about any weekend. My new trailer will be ready to pickup in about another week and then I'll let you guys know. That would be cool to meet some riders around here and check out the Elgin trail.

Talk to you soon,

Chuck

Posted by: Rottweiler

Hey Eric I will contact you for sure. I just have to wait another week or two for my trailer to come in.

Elgin has some real nice spots

Posted by: Exrider22

a bunch of them are off Randle road, where going to one on sunday. One is off of Bowes road and the other runs from route 20 all the way to Big timber and randle road.

Posted by: Exrider22

actually we park at my friends aunts house off of route20. The trails go from there all the way to big timber{randall road}. Anytime you want to go out there just let me know cause i have a itch to get back out there. My friends and I can show you a couple spots to park. Parking by his aunts is the easiest though becasue it right by the trail. Their are also some more trails if you go the opposite way on randall road.

Posted by: Exrider22

yeah no problem, ill give you a heads up. Its no problem for me and my friends to get out there so just let me know when you wanna get out there. I might even get out there this weekand so let me know if you guys wanna meet up, hopefully the water levels wont be so high this time.

Posted by: Exrider22

yeah no problem, hopefuly the weather will get a little better. hopefully the precipitation stays to the minimum so that we can cross\ride the creek and get to even more trails.

Where are the good spots in Elgin? Up until a few months ago I lived in South Elgin, but I was not aware of any decent places to ride in the area.

Posted by: Buford77

Let me know next time you are riding in Elgin, I may be able to join you.
