Hello all. I may have the opportunity to relocate to the Charlotte area. Anyone in the area that could give me an idea of what kind of riding there is close? Woods, trails, dunes, etc?

I'm wondering if I should be selling one of my machines if it won't fit the terrain there. For instance, I like the Banshee for the dunes, but if no sand around there, why bring it.

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks guys. I'll be moving the end of October. I'll definitely want to check these areas out. I bought in the Waxhaw area SE of Charlotte, and close to Monroe. May not be a bad drive to Uwharrie from there.

Warsteiner- I just left you a message in the Suzuki forum. Where do you ride most and what can you tell me about local riding areas? I'm looking forward to riding some new trails. If your group doesn't mind a new rider, I'd like to join in sometime.

I looked at homes in Indian Trail, but ended up in what is really Wesley Chapel. I'll be there in about 3 weeks.

Thanks

Huge/Warsteiner-

I'm anxious to go riding. It looks like about 56 degrees for Saturday. Anyone interested in TNT? The Vinson and V Force haven't seen NC dirt yet and I've been here more than 3 months!

Posted by: pairof98s

That's the one. Their website is www.tntmotorsportsinc.com and it looks like fun. I'm hearing some good things also.

atvkid, go look at a Suzuki Z250. a very nice beginner's ride.

Where is this Foggy Bottom? I'm 10 minutes from Monroe and that would be great.

Warsteiner and Huge- Brown Mountain opens March 16... TNT has had the ATV trails closed the past couple of weeks due to all the rain and snow. I'm hoping to find a trail soon, but more rain in the forecast tomorrow.

a true dune banshee would probrably not be the best for NC....unless it is mild and can be converted back to trail easily

as far as the riding,,,,PM me for specifics,,,,,I lived in Charlotte for 5 years and can give you the basics (some good areas if you dont mind a little drive) (nothing compared to texas however)

search under 'NC' in 'where to ride'

lot of good NC people on here

and a lot of good threads on this very topic

trails with rocks

jeep trails

no dunes in NC

just beach,,,,but no riding that I know of

warstiener, how much of 485 is open these days??

does it go past lawyers road??

We used to ride the 17 miles between lawyers road and hwy 49,(I used to live in the apts at 49 and 485) when it was under construction in 2000. There may be some sections that are rideable still.

I'm going to be moving to Raleigh soon. What's the riding like in Uwharrie?
Dunes or Trails?

Posted by: Huge

Warsteiner, I just moved to Charlotte (Pineville) in January. I took a trip to TNT two weeks ago and it was
pretty good. You mentioned the power lines off 74? Any place to park a trailer?

Posted by: Huge

Pairof98s, sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. Work has been crazy, but
I would love to hook up. Where in Monroe is this place? I can't wait for Brown Mt.
to open, I've heard it's awesome. Let me know what's going on. My email
address is BrianCQuinn@msn.com, I check it everyday.

Theres a few places around if your willing to drive. Uwharrie(also known as you-rocky!) is about 1 hr S.W., Brown mtn is a nice place to ride its near Morganton, NC and We ride at a place near Oxford,NC that is an absolute blast to ride at. There are two large dry lake beds that maintain a moist hard pack sand condition. Not suitable for paddles, but a blast and absolute traction. There are also many mi. of trails. Lots of fun you just got to drive to get there.

UWHARRIE SUCKED... Plain and simple, Rocks isnt the word,

You got that right. It is great for Rail buggys and jeeps. Forget about sport quads. Anouther great place to ride is Enoree . It is part of the SC state forest system located near witmire SC. There is about 30-40 miles of groomed trails all directional. Great for wipping through trails not having to worry if someone is coming the other way. There is a camp ground is down the street. You can ride at night as well.

It is about an hour south of Charlotte off of SC RT 72 and SC Rt 66

Welcome to Charlotte area, couple people we ride with live in Waxhaw, I live about 10-15 minutes away, right next to Matthews, in Indian Trail. Let me know if you need info about the area. i just bought a Vinson 500 at the end of August, new to atvs.

Posted by: Warsteiner

Bing, almost all the way ther keeping a small portion closed at lawyers area but its about done in this area, it get to the speedway area but that section before lawyers is still shut down. Growing real fast around here. All the places I saw atvs ride are now neighborhoods or stores.

Pairof98s, Anytime you want to go riding let me know. This sat 5 of us are going to Brown Mountain about 1 1/2, 2 hours away was told better than Uwharrie, and as horrible as everyone else says it is, i thought was great, wished for a few more straight aways so i could open up a little, but thats where i broke it in at, and your going to be in for a nice welcome to North Carolina red clay/ mud. Uwharrie is more like, rhymes with, Rock Quarry. I was'nt expecting so much rock and Jeeps, but as slow as the Jeeps go does'nt seem like fun at 2.5 mph. There is some major power lines near my house and Independence (74) that I've rode on and fields but to be respectful, I'll wait till the soybeans are plowed. Seems like theres alot of little areas around to ride on. you'll like the Charlotte Area growing fast.

UWHARRIE SUCKED... Plain and simple, Rocks isnt the word, 2 of the biggest problems I saw was the bottlenecks that the jeeps caused on all the tough parts, forcing atvs and bikes OFF the trail to go around so we didnt sit there for an hour, a big no-no. And also all the kids riding with their dads on the quad with no helmet on. Alot of these trails were VERY rough, and having a 5 year old on your quad without a helmet on was just plain ignorant.
Parking was very limited, trail maintenace looked as though it was non-existent.
I rate it a 2 on a scale of 10. The Plus parts were the very technical sections that were alot of fun.

I live in NC also, close to you sort of. I am new to the site but I know quite a few of private and public places to ride. I noticed way back you wanted sand. Have that too in SC. I like to meet new riders and swap areas and ride. If your interested let me know. email kmoore@180connect.net
