Ya know, that just might be a plan! If I drag the Z and the horsetrailer up, we can "scout" on the quads and then if we find anything we can get to, I can go back and get the trailer. Yeah, yeah, that's it! Like we need an excuse to ride. Lets go! Supposed to be nice.
I would actually have to change my tires though. Haven't touched the quads since I found the busted R450. set it down and locked it up.
I may just recruit Wunderboy/crashwunder to help me finish it up if I can't get it done this weekend.

That is a good deal. Tried Craiglist, but I don't have the freetime to run as soon as I see something and I don't live on the southend, so I miss quite a few opportunities.

Did you guys know that you can go to the Skagit County DNR and they can give you a permit to get some wood up at like walker valley. I'm not sure how much firewood you can get but the permit is free. My cousin told me about it acouple of weeks ago. Here is the FAQ's on the DNR website.
Q: I make rustic furniture, and I want to know what the laws are about
private citizens collecting wood on state forestland. What would be the
closest permissible place for me to do this?
A: Recreational harvesting is allowed without permit for mushrooms and
berries, as well as limited amounts of some forest products. Commercial
permits are also available for products such as salal and beargrass. To
obtain current harvest opportunities, guidelines and limits, contact the
DNR region office nearest you. Phone numbers and a map of region offices
is located at: www.dnr.wa.gov/base/regions.html.
There are more acres of forests owned by private individuals than owned
by the state. Many industrial forest landowners allow salvaging on their
properties. There is a list of industrial forest owners at the
Washington Forest Protection Association website: www.wfpa.org
<http://www.wfpa.org/> . There are also many small forest landowners who
may be willing to open their lands to salvaging forest products. DNR
works with many of these folks. To view that website, click on:
www.dnr.wa.gov/sflo/
Within DNR's Small Forest Landowner Office website is a link which may
directly offer you an outlet. The link is:
www.dnr.wa.gov/sflo/links/#COOP. It includes links to cooperatives for
crafts and furniture-making.

So the Sick, Lame, Lazy and Crazy Turtle Patrol will once again assault the trails on Wednesday the 11th. I'm getting all atwitter already. Where do you want to ride or does Chuck have a special request again? He may want to come down that switchback section to check it out. Think I'll let him check it and report back prior to taking it myself. (Insert picture of large chicken here) Not all that sure of my riding skill level and know for sure I'm not as agile as I once was.

He no longer has a catheder in his weenie and he has ceased vomiting. still needs his daily bloodwork and so forth. gotta get health department out to test our water sources and make sure we aint gettin all the cows and horses sick.. every animal up there is watered from one big pond via watertrailers besides 5 of the horses have an automatic waterer off a well. friggin raccoons and possums BR>

For those in the know:
We have a 6' wide window with a door next to it, total distance from outside of window to outside of door is 11'
Is this going to be too much trouble to convert to a double sliding glass door (two doors that slide left and right) with a total glass opening of 11' or have a 6' slider and close off the existing door.
This is to the back yard, opening to a deck. Any structural problems forseen?

Yeah, after a certain age you just use a carbon dating number. You younger folks still have to GO TO WORK and have yet to RETIRE so you can GO RIDING ON WEEKDAYS whenever the mood strikes. Oops, did I shout? How rude of me. Especially the part about you HAVING TO GO TO WORK and NOT GETTING TO RIDE DURING THE WEEK.

You'll need to run a header from the far side of the window opening to the far side of the door opening because you'll be loosing studs between the door and window that support the headers over both.

Val was told, we would need to put up a temporary support wall on the inside during the tear out process. I totally understand the need for installing a new header running the distance, just questioning the need for a temporary wall for support.

you might,,,depending on what that section of wall is holding up (2nd story)
if its just holding rafters,,,probably not
a temporary support is never a bad idea especially for 11' of span,,,,,not that things will come crashing down,,,,but things can sag, and make the new header install a hassle and cause that portion of your house to settle more than the rest

Good Morning PSAR. A new first for me, #2 poster in the morning. Going scouting for the up coming deer season this morning.
Tencubed, You were right, Chuck want to run the upper stretch of trail #30. So Capitol Forest is the place for the ride. Chuck thinks we should meet at the Farm Boy, instead of The Place. What doyou think? I choose the day of the ride and Chuck choose the place, so you choose the breakfast location.

Damn it Bing, you snuck in while I was typing. So I get #3 and I think I did that before.

also,,,going 11' I would use a glue-lam header as opposed to a sandwiched 2x header

I had a choice.....A hot tub or a new quad. Guess which I choose? Besides they are talkin' about replacing the knees before to long, it just un-nerves me a bit to go really bionic.

he is working out, walking, walking and more walking
he seems very happy to be mobile again (he was over 400lbs for most of his life,,,,but has shrunk in recent years)

Scouting for deer? Don't get lost out there in the wild woods.
Farm Boy sounds good to me. 10:00 AM again? That works well for me, traffic is manageable on I-5 by that time. Most of the real crazies have gotten to work.

Ok, 10AM at the Farm Boy (Exit 95 off I-5 south of Olympia) for breakfast and riding out of Middle Waddell day use parking lot after. This is on Wednesday the 11th of Oct. Anyone can come and meet us at either the Farm Boy for breakfast or at the parking lot at Middle Waddell.
Mike, I never get lost. Only disoriented for a while. Besides I have made it home and am going to the new gun shop in town.

you know how boys get when they get angry and have had some of that fermented hops and JD in em Punching walls and hittin tables and the sort.. generally not good for your bones I learnt that the hard way in 8th grade.

Yep, I know how that is. My brothers broke there bones all the time. My mom had to put my brothers in football helmets when they went outside. She didn't want them messing up their brains. Me on the other hand, well i'm dealing with my first break ever, and i DON'T like it.

Hows that healing up for ya?
Posted by: warriorqueen
The doc took two x-rays acouple of weeks ago from today. He said it's healed so start Therapy. I have been in Therapy for 2 weeks now. When i first went in my shoulders look like - _ My right was way higher than my left. Therapist said that my shoulder blade is out of balanced, i have about 10 knots around my blade. I just have to keep doing exercises to get the muscle stretched back out to where it's suppose to be. I have it almost level now. After it's level then we will start working on strengthing my arm and getting the actual shoulder bone, back where it's also suppose to be. My right shoulder rolls forward. That's the best way i can describe it. The day of and after therapy is usually the worst for me. Oh i also go to therapy twice a week. I told the therapist that i need to be able to shoot a gun by the end of October. He said that i will beable to go hunting, but when i get back i'm gonna be back in therapy working on everything again.
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
can you get a prescription for rolfing? it would really help your rehabilitation in that shoulder.
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
There has got to be some rolfers up north Here is an FAQ
Posted by: OneFlyCowboy
and here is the school my cousin went to on it The Rolf Institute
Posted by: warriorqueen
I was thinking about getting a massage before i go hunting. To help loosen up the muscles.
I have never heard of the word Rolfing. I'll ask my therapist on Monday what he thinks of these two things.

Thinking about putting a rack on the front of my 360 to carry tire chains. Something that would carry them, hanging, at the front of the front rack. Anyone have a carrier I could look at? Maybe a picture? I have built this type of carrier for pickups and trucks but this one I would be concerned about appearance and security for the chains. I did a couple of searches on the web but came up with nothing.

I got a 400ex. I've had it for about a year and i'm not bored with it. If you plan on dune riding i would recommend something faster but for trails it's perfect. Although i would rather have a 450r because of the suspension. He can buy mine when (if) my wife lets me get a renegade
I am not bored with my 400ex. the z400 is just a cooler quad. the z400 is not in my pics because i have been banned from ridding it. the last time i rode it i bent an a-arm and put a flat spot in the frame.she says i have my own quads for that.

2006 Suzuki 1000. This bike is p erfect! It has 1000 miles and has had its 500 mile dealer service. (Expensive) It's been adult ridden, all wheels have always been on the ground. I use it as a cruiser/commuter. I'm selling it because it was purchased without proper consent of a loving wife. Apparently "do whatever the f*** you want" doesn't mean what I thought. Well, the flywheel problem is solved.
I had no clue about lapping a flywheel on until Randy told me about it. Even the shop didn't know, since OEM motors and parts don't need it. They just bolted it on as the manual says to do. Since it coughs through the carb at times when it starts, it sheared the key every time it did that.
The shop sheared a couple keys and said they didn't know what to do. Randy suggested lapping the flywheel and I relayed that to the shop. The mechanic at the shop hadn't done this before and didn't clearly understand how to do it properly (keep in mind this is a factory shop, not performance). They sheared another key. They just loose installed the flywheel and put it back together for me to deal with.
I got an e-mail from Doug Nicholas and he said that the flywheel needed to be lapped. I now needed to know wtf was lapping. I called Randy and we chatted about it. Then I looked it up on the web and got a good understanding of how to do it.
Today, I went to NAPPA and picked up some valve lapping compound and brake cleaner. Went to the dealer with my new portable garage. Wheeled my machine into the trailer and inspected the flywheel and crank shaft. Since it had sheared several keys, it had some galling. I took some emery cloth and touched up the flywheel and shaft, then put the valve lapping compound on and rotated the flywheel 12 revolutions one way, then 12 the other. Checked the surfaces for uniformity, and repeated until I couldn't see any high or low spots. Then checked the surfaces with Prussian blue. I had to lap it 5 or 6 times before it had a good fit. I'm sure that the original installation would have been less. I cleaned up the surfaces with brake cleaner and installed the flywheel. I torqued it down, then removed the nut and followed ten's advice and gave it a sharp tap, then re-torqued it. Put it all back together and it fired up.
It did cough a couple times through the carb before it started, but this is normal. The good thing is it didn't shear the key! I shut it off and started it up a couple times.
Thanks to BigD, Randy, Bear, ten, and Josh for all the posts and advice.
It takes a few problems to learn how to do things.
I'm going to Beverly tomorrow to make a few passes. Anybody wanna go? I only have the drag machine, the two scrammys are torn down and waiting for carb parts. So I'll only be making passes at the east end, no trail riding. If 'da boy doesn't go, then I?ll ride his machine for trail riding if someone else wants to go.

Hey Bear and TC............
I need to hook my dad up with you guys for a ride some day. He keeps bugging me about going.
He is a novice rider, but has a good idea. He's riding a Yamaha Kodiak 450.
Would like some easy stuff to start out with.
He has been riding in Montana and somewhere else back that way so far.
He'd fit in with you guys great. Not sure you'd get much riding done, cause he's into guns as much as you guys.
He's ok for weekday afternoon rides, but he doesn't get off work until 12:30 in Lakewood. Doesn't give much time.
Sure he wouldn't mind a weekend either.
He lives in Yelm.

Good to hear its up Karl.
I have had a z-400 down since June. It ran great but neede a 440. It got that then the clearance was bad. The valves hit teh piston. Fixxed that, then couldn't get it to time, the painted on marks were hard to see. Figured that out, then it wouldn't rev. There was a one dollar part that was missing, and not "missed". It was telling the cdi the tranny was in reverse, so it would rev. That is fixxed and all is good.
EXCEPT, now he says the front tires won't touch the ground. Watch out 450 four stroke class, there is a new dog in down.

Is your Dad on the net Q4F? Get him on this forum if he is. I know I would like to meet with him and I'm sure Bear and Chuck would too. We need some new stories to pass around and someone new to listen to our BS, err Factual Accounts of Past Events. If he's not on the web drop me a PM with his phone number and I'll give him a call. Our next outing is next Wed. and we should be able to meet with him at Middle Waddell for at least a short ride in the afternoon. Weekends don't work well for me because of the wife's work schedule and we usually have company on weekends.

No and no.
I don't think the flywheel was lightend. As it appears to have all the OEM marks still in it. Mind you, I haven't seen a lightend flywheel before, but because of the assembly of the flywheel, it could only be cut on the outside, and it has all the stamps still in it. In addition, Doug didn't seem to bat an eye at putting on an OEM flywheel, except that it needed to be lapped.

I would suggest checking the torque on that wheel after the engine has run a bit.

Went to Beverly today... all I can say is OMG that thing is a handfull! Yes it did stay together. The rear end is rigid when the wheelie bar is installed. It's hard to find a long enough place to slow down without getting into some subtle woops, then the back end bounces.
'da boy didn't know I put the ported carb on his machine... LMAO! First thing he does is sky the front end. The only time I saw his front on the ground was when he was turning around. He was havin' fun. I forgot to take his quiet cores out so he wasn't getting all the available power... and he was trading wins with a YFZ.

Good day at Oakwood today. Jakie boy got 2nd in the 50 C class, everytime he gets a little faster and he even tried a little air on one of the jumps. Everytime I checked on Ashley whe was winning her races, even saw her check out one race, no one was even close. Her sister Haley did good and I think I saw her with a second place finish. Good job girls! Well we only have 7 more races to make for a series trophy, I have a feeling Jakie gonna be making those seven.
Karl sounds good about Ur quad, lets go race at Everett again
I did tell Lu that I want to do the Hangover Hare scramble on Jan.1st and will take Jakie and I to Woodland only once if it rains alot and we know that it will be a mudfest.

I feel for the guy, however 2 years is quite a while... must not have been too close. If someone needs a day or two off, take 'em! Vacation, sick leave, or leave without pay... I wouldn't care. I'd rather see someone take a mental health day or two than come in and be distracted. Callin' in dead however, is not an option...

We pulled into the second entrance to Beverly. It's down about mid-point about where Dinger made the nose-dive. The first thing we did was get the truck and trailer stuck. We had to scratch our heads for a minute or two to figure out how to get it out, but we did it in about 1/2 and hour. Had to un-hook the trailer and dig out the truck. Utilized the limited slip on the dually... 4x4 or 6x6 in this case, nailed it out of the hole, up to firm ground. Then go back and unload the trailer. Then approach the trailer at an angle... again, floor it and move to firm ground... Un-hook the trailer, go back with the truck and get all the stuff. Then re-hook the trailer up and load all the crap back into the trailer. Makes for an interesting beginning of a ride.

I got a 400ex. I've had it for about a year and i'm not bored with it. If you plan on dune riding i would recommend something faster but for trails it's perfect. Although i would rather have a 450r because of the suspension. He can buy mine when (if) my wife lets me get a renegade

I received this to day and thought you people might find it of interest.
CLOUT ALERT!!! IAC Study will result in banning OHV use on your own private property?
As you may know, 85% of the Nonhighway Off Road Vehicle Activities (NOVA)
funds now go to the hikers. That came about the same way that the
Anti-Motorized, Anti-Access (Sierra Club/WTA, etc.) people are now planning
to ban the use of your OHV on your own private property!
How do they do this? Just follow their well proven 10 step program -
1) Spend a large amount of money to have professional lobbyists whine
continually to the legislators about some perceived OHV problem.
2) Whine some more and try to get legislation passed that will regulate OHV
use out of existence.
3) Get intolerant, non-sharing people in Thurston County (Olympia is in
Thurston Co.) to whine to their anti-OHV County Commissioners (yep, same
people who closed Thurstion Co. ORV park)
4) Get the Thurston Co. commissioners to pass a very discriminatory county
ordinance regulating OHV use on private property out of existence in
Thurston Co.
5) Whine some more to the legislators and propose the very discriminatory
Thurston Co. ordinance as a state-wide solution.
6) COMPROMISE in the legislature to fund a study of the problem.
7) Be sure the study will be contracted/conducted by the IAC (same agency in
charge of the phony fuel use study) that stole your NOVA funds for
non-motorized hikers.
8) Bring a biased anti-motorized consulting firm in to do the "study."
9) Have the IAC staff bring biased anti-motorized consulting firm's
recommendations to the legisltature
10) Use paid lobbyists to whine to the legislature some more so a bill is
passed regulating OHV use on private property out of existence.
THE FOLLOWING TEXT WAS RECEIVED DIRECTLY FROM THE IAC -
"To persons interested in ORV noise issues:
In recent years, off-road vehicle (ORV) noise has become a hot topic in some
places in Washington State.
To respond, the Washington State Interagency Committee for Outdoor
Recreation (IAC) is looking for your input on how best to address ORV noise
in both residential and non-residential areas. Come tell us what you think
at one of two workshops to be held October 10th and 19th at the locations
listed below.
At the request of the state legislature, IAC staff is examining ORV noise
regulations and related enforcement around the country. At the workshops, a
team of experts under contract to IAC will present several options for
addressing noise, and some of benefits of each approach. We hope you will
attend a workshop to share your knowledge about ORV noise and provide
comments on the various options.
Your input will help develop ORV education and training approaches, model
ordinances, and other recommendations for fair, practical, and effective
ways to address this important issue.
If you plan to attend, so that we can have enough materials and refreshments
on hand, please RSVP to this automated link:

END OF QUOTE -
Do we need to say any more? You will soon be faced with fines of up to
$1000 per day for using your OHV on your own property when creating sound
than is lower than a human voice in normal conversation. The Thurston Co.
ordinance already does this! It was proposed as state-wide legislation
last session and was turned into a "study." See 10 step process above.

i didnt see any zuki in yer pis lol i got my recon 2 yrs ago and i wish i would have gotten the 300 now and i dont want him to have to go through the same thing haha cept with me i want a clutch (i think)
i reserve the right to change my mind......

AS for a 400ex thats what my hubby got when we all got quads 6 yrs ago, he lOVES his 400, never had any issues w/ it theya re bullet proof!! WE only put a 426 piston in it last year, that is pretty good for the riding it had on it, you can always give them more CC's we got him a 450R this past summer & to be honest he likes the 426 better!!! Too bad for him though cuz it's MINE now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've rode the 450 & don't like it either, but I LOVE the Yammi 450 she's got LOTS more grunt you can find 400ex's for good prices now, around $2500-$3500 for a good one w/ lots of extras!!
Good luck w/ your search And don't forget about the 300 I have for YOU!! most forgiving quad you'll ever ride!!

I look at that spider kit and my main prolem is look at how bad the tire scrub is on the wheels. the camber just gets all outta wack.you would just melt the insides off the tires

I don't know what that is. But the preddy's fly wheel is multiple pieces. It incorporates the one-way clutch which the starter gear nests in.
Two piece flywheels have an outer ring, usually steel, and an inner hub. The ring is swaged or shrunk (shrank?) onto the hub. Sometimes this will slip and allow the timing of the engine to change. Clinton, Techumsa (SP?) and a couple of others have used this. Don't know if it is still done or not. Have also seen this happen on gas engines in trucks when the vibration dampener on the front of the crank would slip. Impossible to get the engine to run and it would show being perfectly in time.
