You just need your registration tabs. Your yearlies that you buy. So nothing extra just to ride there. Just your current 06/07 tab, that's all. So your truck should be good, unless you chance a ticket each day driving it? Are you a wild man? And your quad just needs it's year tab.

Nope, other than that one ride with PSAR at Rock Candy, which got me hooked by the way, I have always ridden on our property or the county roads to and from. Thanks for the info, gonna do the licensing thing today.

Except on private property you have to have OHV tabs or any cop can ticket you for an unlicensed vehicle violation. It's like a $100 this first time and you still have to buy the tabs. The majority of the tab fee goes into the trail maintenance fund anyway.

When you bought your quad the dealer didn't send a registration form in the mail along with the orv tag (license plate) and a year tab? That's very odd!

I'm sure if you just lost it, just bring in your registration and tell them you need a new orv tab.

Yup, youse guys is rite. I dug the folder with title and purchase records out and in there is a license sticker set with tabs that expired last year. Where we live the quads used by farmers and ranchers are treated as farm equipment by the Sheriff's office. I have never noticed one of these stickers on anyones quad. No one rides them on state hiways or in town that I know of. Guess I just have to go renew and put them on the quad. Thanks for the info, probably saved me a few bucks.

The license sticker put on your quad somewhere. you will only need to get the tab, for the yearly tab. It should only cost you around $10. Glad we could help and save you about $100 in fines. BR>

Wish i could get a contract to run a dozer thru the woods outta that trail mantanance money. Dam tree huggin hippies.

Wow, I didn't realize how much the tabs are. When i get my quad tabs, i usually get tabs for trailer, camper at once, so i really don't pay attention to how much one thing is, Just the grand total. If i can remember right when i got tabs for everything, i got the quad, my quad trailer and camper all at one time and the camper must of been the one that was right around $10. I also think it's STUPID, that you have to get tabs for a camper!!!!

I dont quite get that either.. Why would something that doesnt have wheels have to be liscensed? besides a boat. hell them dam bicycles Cost a hell of allot more money to the tax payer than a camper.

Posted by: tencubed

Back from the DOL. Basic lic fee is 19.75 plus a filing fee of 3.00 and an agent fee of 4.00 for a total of $26.75. Turns out the 360 had never been licensed. The tabs and tags I found were for the Bayou we have. At any rate I'm legal to ride. Woo Hoo BR>
Less fun at the visitation, Corgi dog got slapped really hard by a patient. He never holds a grudge tho and will most likely want to visit the same person again tomorrow morning.

The thing of having to license a camper is really wierd. I can haul a camp trailer on a truck and the trailer dosen't need to be licensed. The only thing I have to license is the truck. I also have to have tonnage on the truck of course. The pickup and camper I still have to have the license and tonnage on the pickup but I have to license the load as well. What a scam.

Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings I take the dog to visit the folks that live where my wife works. These folks are severly disabled and nearly all are low functioning. Forever four years old and that sort of thing. Corgi dog has a setteling effect on them and they are nearly universally happy to see him. Dog looks forward to these visits and has never shown a bad temper even when bad things happen like the occurance today. This incident is the first time this particular client has struck out and it may have been triggered by something we did not notice. At any rate we will be back over there in the morning.

I talked to my boss today about my situation. He was way cool, and said when I'm ready to crawl up into a track-hoe, I can sit in it till I'm better. That is a real good thing. When I broke my leg, he did the same thing for me, but I had to kick and scream to get a truck back. I have since sat in traffic for the last 6 years, so a change might be underway.

She's doing pretty good, pills are still keeping her happy, once there gone, it might be a different story. I knew that was you, it was alittle too late for the truckers nod

Not a lot of outfits will look out for their people like that anymore. Your fortunate to have that support.

I can sure see where you would be considering getting out of the trucks with the way traffic is around the area. A track-hoe may be a lot easier on the nerves and sure won't have those overnighters to Oregon. Maybe you'll have more time to ride once things heal up.

I was with an aluminum company for over 16 years and never saw them do anything like what you have been offered. When they closed the plant I sure don't remember getting a kiss on the way out the gate. Paid well while I worked there but they considered one day off work for personal reasons or sick each year as "excessive".

Sure sounds like you have a good company to work for.

Um to the department of liscensing you know where you get the ones for your pickup truck. you have never liscensed your atv hr>

Nope, other than that one ride with PSAR at Rock Candy, which got me hooked by the way, I have always ridden on our property or the county roads to and from. Thanks for the info, gonna do the licensing thing today.

Glad we could help and save you about $100 in fines. hr>

Actually ATV tabs cost $21.75 plus the agency fee! Just renewed 3 of them!

OK, already addressed. Never mind!

They jumped from 8 to 21 in a year, thats why you are trippin, WQ.

About $15 of the increase goes into the fund to build new trails and maintain the present ones. Some of that fund reopened The ORV park (Straddleline) in Thurston and Grays Harbor counties.

It's kind of a cross between quad/mc. I've heard they've changed it a little from last year but not much.
Once you get used to it, it's not to bad. There will be some double sections you will roll over I'm sure.
There should be a couple pretty fun table tops....

Horsepower is defined as work done over time.
The exact definition of one horsepower is 33,000 lb.ft./minute.
Put another way, if you were to lift 33,000 pounds one foot over a period of one minute, you would have been working at the rate of one horsepower.
In this case, you'd have expended one horsepower-minute of energy.

What horsepower means is this:
In Watt's judgement, one horse can do 33,000 foot-pounds of work every minute. So, imagine a horse raising coal out of a coal mine as shown above. A horse exerting 1 horsepower can raise 330 pounds of coal 100 feet in a minute, or 33 pounds of coal 1,000 feet in one minute, or 1,000 pounds 33 feet in one minute. You can make up whatever combination of feet and pounds you like. As long as the product is 33,000 foot-pounds in one minute, you have a horsepower.

Just a tidbit of info. I'm still looking for the specific questions you guys were talking about.
But I can't find that answer..........dang it..............

Here is one of the pages I've read through.
Maybe somebody smarter than me can figure out the answer. I know nothing about this stuff.
HorsePower

Posted by: Bing

regardless of rider or bike weight,,,,your engine will produce the same amount of horsies

Posted by: Quad4Fun

Ok, I'm tired of reading already.
Your engine will produce the same hosepower and torque no matter the weight. Makes sense.........
But the more weight, the longer it takes to get going. Makes sense......

That's all from me. Pretty smart I am huh....hehehehehehehehe
Not

All my parts came in for the 660R, except for the headlight body, it'll be ready for Easton

Posted by: Bing

sounds like power to weight ratio would be a better measure in this case

Posted by: Bing

my bike weighs lets say 400lbs,,,,and we'll chalk me in at 260lbs (hence the 660 sticker on the side of the bike )

85hp / 660lbs = .128 horsy per pound

in my dreams maybe BR>
so,,,if i gained 7.81 lbs i would have to add 1 more horsy

Well, Tahuya was crowded with a Capital C. Still, beautiful weather and a nice (albeit short) ride. Josh pooped out early on so we headed back and when we got back to the truck he wanted to go ride some more. Cheech found that place. Josh loved it. i think he like riding the trails to get there most. Many DEEP mud puddles for him to bog through. He wants to go back there instead of the pit. And tencubed, Josh has decided that you are his new grandpa.

I though he would love the trail from the staging area to Goat Ranch Road, not too technical but could be challenging for a little one.

Did you run into Rod and his family?

Tahuya was a very busy place, they are getting set up for a motorcycle poker run tomorrow. Tacoma Motor Cycle club is the sponsor if anyone is interested.

Rod and family showed up and we visited a bit. Got to meet them which was nice. They are set up for much faster travel than I am and Trex and Josh looked more like my speed. Had lots of fun watching Josh trail around behind his dad and go just where dad had gone. Only exception was in the puddles. Josh would tend to take the long way thru. Glad to hear I made a new friend, he sure is a nice young man.

Yeah they pulled in at around 11 as we were riding out, so we stopped and met everyone. Didn't see WT151 though.

thats great about time that money goes to what it should. if it goes back to trails i wont complain anymore

Since it's being used to support the sport I'll consider it worthwhile. Having worked for King County I just hope it is spent in a more responsible manner.

10#??? I always heard 100 lbs. But anyway horsepower is lifting 33# so many feet high, so I find both numbers suspect.

horsepower defined

I always found that HP = Cubic Inches X Cubic $ to the 10th power

Don't give up Hap, I've lost probably half a ton over the years, course I've managed to gain something over that amount back. It's all my wife's fault. She's just too good a cook. That's my story and I'm stickin to it.

Next thing that will happen is the folks who were forced to sell are going to sue because they have been deprived of this excess profit. Looks like the lawyers will be the big winners again.

Corgi Dog visited with this same person this AM with good results. Spent about 20 min getting a tummy rub and the client was really happy. Some visits are just better than others, goes with the territory.

With the detours they put up due to different logging operations, it's not hard to get lost. The trails could also use better signs, it's easy to get turned around out there.

Val and I've tented there a few times, we just got our own site next to everybody else. The actual tenting areas are a ways from the rest of the group, that's why we got rv sites in the past while tenting it.

Like Bing said, we have the entire back corner, alot of real estate, plenty of room to pitch a tent. Are you gonna have an ez-up?

Good Beautiful Morning PSAR

Posted by: Red400EXRod

We had a great time at Tahuya yesterday. It was Cindy's first time on the trails with her 400EX and a clutch and she did really good!
No casualties and only one quad ridden into the bushes. That was a right hand turn Katie!
We did meet Mike (TReX400) and Mike (TenCubed) and they headed to Goat Ranch Road so Josh could play around while we were getting ready. 10 thought we might be too fast for him but we went to find him after we were all set to go and we didn't see them.
We road from Elf. to the pit, across the road through those trails and back to the pit. Then back to Elf. for a break. Didn't really go too fast since Cindy was getting used to a clutch on the trails and Katie has never really ridden trails much. Just the dunes with us. She says she prefers the sand!
After the break, Nate and I (the girls stayed at the truck in the sun) got to rip some trails. I was fun getting to open it up with my son right behind.
We road the Tahuya River trail and then crossed over to the 4X4 trails. Those trails are a blast. Wide enough for some real fast riding. The old man could still stay ahead of the son! I must have tired him out because he asked if I could slow it down a bit! LOL
It was a great day!

Time for help with one of Val's two handed jobs?

Posted by: HappaRap

Ok, here's a question:

My 22-11-10 Holeshot XCT's are at the end of their life

My 700R's are 20-10-9 Dunlops

I have a 2 tooth bigger sprocket on the rear, 13/42, and the skidplate is shimmed

I haven't run 20's in years and have enjoyed the extra ground clearance from the 22's. I'm not ready to purchase new tires yet and am thinking of just running the 20's for a time. They don't have the nice aggresive tread design the Holeshots have, but they're better, I believe, than a set of worn down Holeshots. How many of you are running 20's and have you had any issues with clearance?

Posted by: Red400EXRod

I run 20's and have never run 22's and I go where everyone else goes no problem. I'm still running the stock tires on my 450R, when they are finally worn out I'll probably stay with the same size but get more aggresive.
You only gain maybe, an inch and handling is affected a little with a taller tire. I've never seen a reason to go with a taller tire.
You've already geared you quad down and a smaller diameter tire will gear it down more. I don't think that would be a problem on the trails.

22's are the answer, but 20's will "go where everyone else goes no problem". Burn off the stockers, then buy new.

They sell a six pack of different trail maps on the wa dnr site cheaper than buying separate. might be worth checking out, or you can buy one at a time for a little more.

Get Capitol State Forest, Tahuya State Forest and Green Mountain State Forest. They all have ATV trails in them. They also have a bunch of maps showing all the logging roads in the state, I have a couple of those, used for hunting mainly. The US Forest Service has some maps, but the only ATV trails at present are down southeast of Randall called Blue Lake, there is a campground and a trail head with ATV trails from them, but most of the trails are not for sissies and none are for go fast (they hurt and kill people there fairly regularly, even though the wife and I rode the for 5 days and never had a problem, wel no major problem). Very nice camp ground though with paved road to it with the camp loop road paved also, water no power. For the sand stuff and east of the mountains some one else will have to advise.

TReX and Bear, being the nice guys they are, got me started looking at maps. Think I'll take a run to Tumwater tomorrow or Tuesday and visit the supply house. Six maps of the state forests is under twenty bucks. Singels are about $7.00 each with tax. Anyone want anything let me know and I'll pick them up. You can get them next Saturday. View them on the DNR site.

Now, which way is North?
