not 100 true.

Synthetics with moly are bad for the clutch, I ran Motul 300v and Dumonde Tech in the fofiddy, those do not have moly.

Mobil 1 red cap is the only "auto synthetic" approved by Kawasaki for wet clutch use

I gotta agree with MB. Arctic Cat sells synthetic for use in their machines, I think most manufactures do. You have to use oil rated for wet clutches.

Afternoon' PSAR,

Well Julie & I now own a pretty decent old Truck camperIt's a 1985 Western Wilderness 10.5' fully self contained and every thing works. It also has a solar panel to charge the house batts for dry campingBR>
So now when we go to the Dunes we won't have to Motel it any more and we will have our own place to hang if it turns nasty

Beautiful country up there, what i saw between goggle wipes anyway. Great group and great fun. Cant wait for the next one.

That was a lot of fun for sure. And it wasen't just you girls that had had it for the day. Fat old men get pooped out too.
Been a long time since I have joined such a diverse group and felt right at home, thanks for a great day. And also, thanks for not laughing when I laid my quad on it's side.

Uh, as I recall I was tail end Charlie all day. You must have been leading or close to it. At least from my viewpoint cause if you ain't the lead dog the view is always the same.

You guys had it easy, words alone can't explain what we went through later. It was cold and wet, nothing wrong with wanting to call it a day, especially when the trailboss is riding around in circles

Posted by: LdyJay

Well, I made it home. I can honestly say, I have never ever been that soaked and muddy. I couldn't bear to change in the nastiness of that pit toilet, it scared me.
Good thing I have very dark tint on my windows.
Oops, posted before I was done.

To continue, that was an adventure! Thanks guys. I completely brought the WRONG gear for that wet of riding. I had to leave my gear on the deck to hose it off before I can bring it in the house. Geez. Gotta love the NW!

DonutHolez and Wingdude, I am sorry you had to turn back at the beginning. Bummer.

I did take pics, I will post at work tonight. I am off for a nap. It was great riding with you all today and meeting new folks. img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">BR>

A huge thanks to everybody for the ride today. It was a pleasure meeting all the new people. Between the logging operations around the trail, (making it totally disappear and not knowing where it picked up on the other side of the road), downed trees and a wet, (completely worthless at the end of the day) map, we finally did make it back to the staging area, I think it was around 4:30. I'm tired and sore, sore, sore.

A special Thanks goes out to tencubed for topping off our quads when we decided to press on with the trail ride after part of the group decided to call it a day. He had 5 gallons of gas on his rear rack and we needed some to continue our journey.

Larry, as a Captain, if U went down with the boat we would follow U all the way. Leading, keeping track and organizing everyone is not an EZ task and even if it doesn't always go flawlessly, at least U always step up and are willing to trailboss, hats off to U for that and Thank U.

What did happen after we left?

Well said Cheech !!!

I love how everyone in this group works together so well. A little input here and there from everyone and then we look to Happa and say "which way are we going ?" and there's no complaints, no arguing and off we go.

Thanks everyone for a fun ride.

It was wet, and cold, heck it was almost like we lived in Washington State. BR>
It was nice to see some familiar faces again and to meet some of you for the first time. Hopefully we can make another ride with all of you again soon. Maybe we'll even see some sun.

Tahuya would be great, Moses although i'm sure it would be a blast is a little far for me right now (buting a new house, moving, swamped at work). We are going to Tahuya next weekend if your interested and the weather is better than is was today. I could handle it but Josh is a fair weather rider (not by choice, by mommy). When i got back he wanted to go riding where we went.

Who are you kidding, what a terrible trailboss, that route is worse than it was a year ago. I must apologize for HappaDummy, why didn't he bring his laminated map?

Larry, as a Captain, if U went down with the boat we would follow U all the way. Leading, keeping track and organizing everyone is not an EZ task and even if it doesn't always go flawlessly, at least U always step up and are willing to trailboss, hats off to U for that and Thank U.

Well said Cheech !!!

I love how everyone in this group works together so well. A little input here and there from everyone and then we look to Happa and say "which way are we going ?" and there's no complaints, no arguing and off we go.

Yeah, no kidding it was a great ride Hap and i'd do it again tomorrow under the same circumstances.

PLEASE do! Funny thing is, I can't use it worth a dang and I didn't set a waypoint at the staging area because I was late and holding everyone up. I need to find a handlbar mount for it, too so it has a better chance at holding satellite signal. Although, I enjoyed the entertainment of Hap trying to repeatedly unfold and use the disinegrating map. Pics to be posted shortly.

Happa, you were a great trailboss, THANKS for leading the way. It was a great adventure. Trailbossing for a large group can be like herding cats. I am always impressed with how well we all do on these rides.

Brian, Steve, Dave, Jim, and Larry...Thanks for the great second half of the adventure, too. AND all the great help and teamwork in trailblazing, lifting, pushing, pulling, etc to navigate the obstacles we encountered. I, too, would do it again tomorrow in the same conditions. Although, I would prefer I had brought the right rain gear, that was my screwup. It was a good day.

And Mike, Big Thanks for the fuel! It might have been tight with our sidetracking if you hadn't topped us off before you left. That was a HUGE relief not to be worrying about fuel and think we were(as WildTurkey would say)LLAMF.
Not that I ever doubted you Hap! img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

The whole problem stems from the fact that the idiots that log on the trails wipe out any signs of where the trail picks up on a road crossing. We would have had an easier time by far with that dang laminated map I have sitting right in front of my ugly mug, do you know how careful you have to be unfolding a wet map

I was praying that I could put a wet map that was torn in 4 seperate peices together enough to get us back. Did you notice that was the last time I looked at the map, I knew where we were then and got us back to the staging area all safe and sound, well excecpt for your mishap, hope you're feeling better.

Thanks for the kind words PSAR Brothers and Sisters

For those that missed the rest of the adventure:

North Rim #1 was impassable 1/4 mile past our spilt up spot, the trail is totally wiped out, it has to rebuilt
We rode the logging roads to Porter Creek Campground, where we picked up the North Rim #1 then connected to Molly Porter #3.
Rode that trail to the back side of Larch Mountain, once again, downed trees were our downfall with no way around them, (we had already skirted around 3 or 4 downed trees, no easy task by any means), decided to take a very scary ride off the trail straight down to the logging road below, not recommended for the fant of heart.
Rode the logging roads and finally found our way to C-4000 which got us in the right direction back to the staging area.

I've decided to put my airbox back on, the Rappy doesn't like sucking up water, it was sputtering 1/3 throttle for the first hour of the ride. It's officially a mountain trail quad and needs to setup for severe conditions. Guess it's time for a trip up to Walker Valley, right Jayna

Right! Walker Valley here we come. I still have access to the Wolvie. Might be a good time to borrow it. And thanks to Dennis, not Dave. I am horrid with names. It's funny I remember nicknames before actual names stick in my blonde head. SORRY Dennis. You were an awesome help navigating alternatives to all those obstacles.

Thanks Big D and Hap,

Now I just need to come up with a reasonable priced quiet little 1000 to 2000 watt gennie to take care of the 110 V needs. I also need to come up with a small flat panel TV that wall mounts and install a DVD player for the rainy day and night time entertainment needs then it will be home on the road

The camper is nothing special to look at inside or out but it's fairly clean and very solid. The guy was pretty liberal with the sealant around the doors and windows(read thick azzed beads) but at least he kept up on
the maintenance and so far thru yesterday and last nights rain I have found no leaks

DAMN HIPPIES!!

Next time we go riding like that I am going to bring my compass. That way I don't have to wait on a gps or have to look at which way the rain is blowin. Then maybe I can be of more assistance than a hinderence to the trailboss in finding which way we are supposed to go. That and now that I know we use maps that like to get wet in the rain I think I am going to go and get one of those map covers for Larry so he doesn't have to be so delicate with the map in the rain.

Jayna what in the hell did you give yesterday for my migrain. I couldn't think straight or eventalk straight. But my head didn't hurt!!! That was a good thing.

I agree! No one got lost, lots of good humor and everyone having fun. What could be better?

Trust me the pic flatters it, It doesn't compare to your guys Palace's on wheels but it will get the job done.

It's decent for the dollar, I didn't want to get much money tied up in another RV, Julie says I'm getting a little snug with the money in my old age

The guy was pretty liberal with the sealant around the doors and windows(read thick azzed beads) but at least he kept up on
the maintenance and so far thru yesterday and last nights rain I have found no leakshr>

We have tried various "quiet" gensets for use on our old camper and came to the conclusion that the Honda units are the best all around buy. They cost a bit more than some of the others but are truly quiet and, most importantly, work when you need them. We run a 5000 BTU air conditioner nearly full time, to keep the mutt cool in the camper, while traveling and went from the sorta cool RV refrigerator to a 110 volt household type. With this load the EU2000i uses about one gallon of gas each 10 hours of run time.

Depending on which photocell array you have you may or may not have enough power to use much in the way of lighting and such. Many of these arrays are designed to maintain the camper battery(ies) during periods of non use. Like when the rig is parked and just killing the grass. We have a battery charger that comes on when the genset or shore power is hooked up to maintain the house battery. I no longer even have the house battery hooked to the pickup and have gone to just one battery for the camper which makes battery maintenance much easier. With the availability of 110 nearly all the time we seldom use the 12 volt lights so the major battery killer is the water pump. The new flourescent screw in light bulbs use such a small amount of power the load on the genset is minimal and you can actualy see inside and, if wanted, outside the camper at night.

EDIT: List of the stuff SWMBO (also known as Sweetums and Linda) uses on a regular basis in the camper: sterio, laptops, printer, hair dryer, microwave, blender, mixer and coffee maker. Not all at once, I have finally got her educated about total wattage currently in use.

We really enjoy our old camper, like you say it may not be much to look at and, in our case, the pickup is older than a lot of the people in PSAR but is sure beats sleeping on the ground in a tent.

Enjoy your "new" rig, your gonna have a blast.

That and now that I know we use maps that like to get wet in the rain I think I am going to go and get one of those map covers for Larry so he doesn't have to be so delicate with the map in the rain.
I didn't bring a compass because Jayna was bringing her GPS unit.

I have a laminated map of Capitol Forest, but because I just knew it wasn't gonna rain, I left it at home.

What we really need is a chainsaw, if anybody's interested in making the ride again at some point with the right equipment, let me know.

I also had the idea of back tracking from the spot we split up at and riding the trail back, marking the road crossing, or atleast the spot where we couldn't find where the trail picked back up.

My neighbor has an old Coleman 850. He wants $150 but will probably take $100.
My Honda 750 will power everything in my camper except the micro.

Depending on how many watts the micro is (600 watts is about max for those small generators) , if you turn every thing else off, sometimes they will run the micro. I got an 1850 and when I got my newer camper with air and everything, I went to 3500.

BANSHEE? HAPPY, YER SLIPPIN'

Posted by: tencubed

Talking to SWMBO about the ride yesterday and she is interested in giving all this fun a try. We have a Bayou 250 that would be suitable for learning to ride on I would think. Where would be a good place to take Linda for some easy trails and pleasent riding? She has tried the Prairie a couple of times and found it cumbersom to handle. Since she has some hip and knee problems, result of an OTJ injury, she will not be wanting to do any agressive riding with jumps or other heavy impact type obsticals.

We would first ride at the farm with good level ground and she could build confidence in basics but this will get old pretty fast. Any suggestions? Are there such areas in the Puget Sound region? Any ideas appriciated.

Posted by: HappaRap

Tencubed,

Shelton Fairgrounds or Bear's place, those two are the best for learning. Most of the other places are like Rock Candy, techincal in some areas and rough and tumble in others. If you ride the logging roads at Capitol Forest, there are many farily tame, flat, side trails ( like the one you guys went on after we split up yesterday to get back to the logging road) that can be taken, you just have to know where they are.

There are many small unkept roads that lead to the powerlines that are very rideable and for some riders, could be considered a trail. There's also the old roads that lead to the point where they setup the yarders, these are not maintained with some growth on them and fun to ride on, they all end up at a dead end.

Before I started riding the real trails, I rode the logging roads and these "Fingers", as we called them, simply because they're old short roads off the main roads that dead end, reminded us of fingers of a hand. We used the term, lets hit some fingers, no traffic on those and many are a blast to ride on.

Posted by: tencubed

Thanks Hap, those fingers sound like just the ticket. Is it allowable to take a pickup and camper out the logging roads and dry camp in the forest area? Also, how much traffic is normal on the logging roads in general?

tencubed, I would be willing to show you around the Shelton fairgrounds, for you to see if they are gonna work for you to teach your wife. I also have a large area near my house that includes good logging roads, abondoned logging roads, skidder trails and quad trails. All behind gates. I used both to teach my wife on. You could test ride during the week and then bring your wife out on the weekend and if my wife isn't working she will go too. Let me know when you would like to go to either or oth places.

Thanks for the offer Bear, sounds like the kind of areas that would work well. The basic learning sessions would be at the farm like I said but I think a wooded area would be a lot more fun. We have access to mountain pasture but the terrain is not rider friendly what with limbs and rocks and such. Very few roads. Linda works all weekends at the present time but this may change mid summer or so depending on how accute the nurse shortage stays. It will be a few weeks before we will even have a chance to ride at the farm and probably mid July before we will be bringing the little quad to this side of the hill due to prior commitments. Meantime I will have the 360 over here and am looking forward to being able to exercise it. You missed a good time Saturday, too bad you had quad problems.

Well, bumped it up to 182.5 main at the dunes when it was so freakin' cold and had(finally figured out) the blown headgasket. Jim took care of fixing the headgasket. OFC rode it a couple weeks ago and noticed the problem, too. Consensus was it was probably rich. Just for Chits and Giggles, I bumped it up to 185 and it was worse, dropped it to 180 main, seems better on the short run down the driveway. Don't have the next size down and don't want to drop all the way to 175, so it will have to do for the ride tomorrow.
I am liking the EFI on the R450 better and better, but even with that, I know I am eventually going to have to learn(and buy equipment for) to remap that if I do anything to it. The neverending hobby. BR>MB, to answer your question about the R450, when I pulled the peashooter and airbox lid and installed the CRBM, it gave me a (according to Yoshimura)7.5hp gain. It was noticable, but it is still very smooth and not inclined to pull the front end up unless I lean back and pull. I can woolie if I want to though. I am curious to see how it does at the dunes.

Craptor is assembled Minus a case saver.. I aint decided what to do there yet.. changed the back brake pads and bled all the rest. The fronts still spongy.. needbraided lines.. I dont know how hot them brake rotors are supposed to get but i touched the read rotor with my thumb and my bro heard it sizzle from 30' away.. I pretty much cant feel anything in my left thumb now. yeah yeah i know dumass. i like to touch hot stuff for some reason Its like magnetic.. we resurected one of the old warriors from the container. It hasnt ran in almost 2 years. had a couple mice nestes in the exhaust and old fuel and bla bla.. needed and exhaust donut.. put that in and a new plug then drug it around behind the truck till it started.. ran like a top. though it was pouring oil out the base gasket of the cylinder. thought well could check the head bolts before tearin it apart. The Back clutch side head bolt took a couple turns guess those can rattle loose over time then was gonna charge the battery but to do so figured could pull it out and clean it up.. light twist of the screw driver Snapped the terminal off the battery the parts list adds up. oh well. anotehr beater quad will get resureccted. Then its off to make my other one run. Its a punk ass As previously mentioned. Maybe make it a flat tracker

Another thing... New chains seem to make a substantial difference in power. Could have been that all i had ridden before puttin the chain and chit on was that new Sportsman 700 EFI in a garage near me

The color of Spam
Is natural as the sky:
A block of sunrise

Pink tender morsel
Glistening with salty gel
What the hell is it?

Old man seeks doctor
"I eat Spam daily," he says
Angioplasty

Pink beefy temptress
I can no longer remain
Vegetarian

Guess i cant get no black pepper spam. Maybe some over roasted turky spam or smokey spam? hmm

in 65 years more than 6 billion cans of SPAM have been sold. thats about 92 million cans of spam a year.

Posted by: maggiesboy

Now I have to quote my favorite "local" movie. Singles..... "and what comes out......is SPAM!"

Posted by: maggiesboy

Don't forget you'll be paying more for your SPAM. The good ole' "potted meat" tax

Posted by: Bing
