this is the first i've heard about this track in smokey point, what days is it open? i'd like to go sometime soon... where's it located? does anyone know anything about the one that RMC is trying to set up?
i wish i had time to hit the dunes on the coast more often... i like spinreel the most, but haven't ridden coos bay yet

I think I like the spinreel campground and riding area the best, we try and make it down there a couple times a year. We do stay quit a bit at Florence, about once a month, and usually make a day trip to winchester while we are there on a weekend.
We are from Tacoma, WA and it takes us 5-1/2 to 6 hours depending on traffic, and try and leave on a thurday morning-afternoon so we get a couple good days of riding and relaxation! :-)

I like all the Oregon dune areas. I love the razorback at Florence for a little jumping action, but I tend to go to Sand Lake the most since it is the closest to Portland and we can ride all night!
Since so many people do weekend and day runs to Sand Lake, that was my reason for creating a forum especially for Sand Lake since it is an area that many/most of us share. My goal in creating the forum was to bridge the gap of people and groups going down to the dunes and not knowing anyone else down there....so far it is working very well and it has been lots of fun. For a weekend ride: Spinreel or Horsfall
For a day trip: Winchester
Just to mess around and check mods: Sand Lake (the other two places are worth the longer drive)

Winchester Bay and Spin Reel/Horse Falls are my favorites. Florence is OK, and I haven't been to Sand Lake. Hillclimbing is great at Winchester. Long rides with a wide variety of terrain, and jumping are the great features at Spin Reel/Horse Falls.

Harv...
Now that's dedication! You must really love sand!

How do I drive to Coos Bay dunes from Portland(I-5). How long does it take?
Posted by: TractorPacker
Thanks for the directions, drove right to horsfalls. That is an awsome dune, I love it there. Next time it wont be an over niter.
Posted by: TractorPacker
The long ride has reward at boyh ends. Ice cream at spinreel and a cooler full of beer at horsfalls. I wish it wasn't 7 hours away.

Harv?
Ever heard of California? I think there is a dune there!! LOL
28 is crazy but I like your dedication!

Bighonda,
We go to sand lake in February every year. That is a must always, anyways, broken arm or death,SAND LAKE. We go to Moses afew or five times a year, way to hot still, September, before the Monroe flat track season. I have not ridden the moto-plex indoor yet but will real soon. $25 from 4 till 8 sounds good after work. My buddy is getting a 250R in about 10 days or so then we will go, maybe sooner.
Posted by: TractorPacker
Bighonda,
2-3 hours is double the drive,it only takes 3 to get there. Don't get me wrong it is not the best place on earth but it is worth a day trip a couple times a year. Alot of big when the dunes are right, but if they are not than thats when its lame!
The guy at moto-plex didn't say it was$25 all day that rocks even more. What do you ride there anyways?

Moses lake is about 3 hours from Everett. Sand lake is 6 hours away. I meant that for half the drive Moses will do but not to often becuz it does get boring after a couple times a year.
I just lowered my 400ex last nite so I can flat track race at Hannegan on saturday. Next week I'll lift it back up and then maybe try motocross.

hey joel how often do you go to the sand dunes?? where do you usually stay at?? went to that indoor track today in smokeypoint, it was pretty busy, all bikes besides myself and sean. we need to get more quads down there for sure. i think the track right now is built for the bikes, we need to get them to change that. have you been to the track yet?

at winchester bay hopw much bigger are the hills then at florence?? are there hills at winchester that a raptor cant get up if the raptor is stock??
\been waiting to go there, maybe i will go in november or laborday weekend

joel
never been to moses and i heard to stay away since it is not all that great of a place to ride, i would rather drive an extra 2-3 hours and go to florence anyways.
yeah the indoor track is 25 bucks all day for the month of august!!!

joel
i saw a sign that said month of august 25 bucks a day, maybe it is only on certian days then. i have a 2003 yamaha raptor and then my buddy has a kawi v force 700. i was down there last weekend and they need to fix some of the whoops, right now it is made for bikes and a little for quads. i hoipe that can change it. when are you going down??
i didnt understand what you were saying about the dunes, msg was unclear!

the track is in smokey point, about 5 minutes off of I-5. for directions go to motoplex.net then you see the info on the track!!
the track is pretty cool since it is fully enclosed and it is 35,000 sq feet. it has about 4 good size jumps and then alot of whoops, the whoops suck unless you can go doubles.
let me know when you go and i will join you. my buddy techtip101 and I usually go on the weekends, for th emonth of august it is 25 bucks a day. in the fall they will have races, including flat track racing!
check it out sometime

all of you are lucky to be in the vacinity of the oregon dunes. i had to drive 28 hours to get to dunefest in 2001.
Posted by: Harv
what a bunch of wimps. i guess you guys just don't like riding as much as i do.
I had never been to the dunes back then and *I had just bought a raptor and I heard about dunefest so I guess the anticipation of riding the massive dunes in oregon and riding in a place that's totally different than what i am used to are what kept me going. plus i am a stay at home dad so getting away from home for a while sounded like a really good idea.

Posted by: DaSandBomb
Which part of the dunes in oregon do you like to ride at (Florence, Winchester Bay, Spin rail, Horse falls, or Sand Lake)?
Posted by: DaSandBomb
bing- you need to try winchester it is worth the extra 10 min. of driving
Posted by: DaSandBomb
take i-5 all the way down to hwy 38 just out of cottage grove, that would be the easyest way for you. heres a map
Posted by: DaSandBomb
bighonda- i know that you can camp at horse falls campground, or drive all the way down to the beach parking lot and camp there.

I can't say much about sand lake because i have only been there once, but i did'nt like it, because it was really choppy, and there was'nt that big of hills. probley, we just could'nt find them.

I don't get how you can drive that far
Posted by: DaSandBomb
I went to dunefest, it sucked, you can make it up all the hills at winchester, you have to try banshee hill, its a long tree shot
kc
Posted by: DaSandBomb
its kinda boring for racing, the hills there are the best
