Count me in, as long as I get my bike running right by the time the get together rolls around

Posted by: KajunATVer

Sounds like we need a planning day Maybe we could meet at the dunes for some preliminary planning and this would also be a good time to talk it over with Barney.

Posted by: KajunATVer

I could probably make it next weekend. I will most probably be at my grandparents' house, which is only about 30 minutes away from LA Dunes.

Posted by: KajunATVer

I'm planning on being there Saturday.

Posted by: KajunATVer

Sounds good to me too! What will everyone be riding/driving? I will probably be on my Foreman 450s unless I can get the proper jetting set for my R this weekend and I will be in a Green Chevy Z71 ext. cab.

Posted by: KajunATVer

I won't be able to make it either. I forgot about a fishing tournament at False River on Sat. I'll try to make it for July 4th weekend.

Posted by: KajunATVer

Hey 1BigDS, The guy who actually owns the dunes as far as I know is a guy named Scott from Alexandria and is probably in his 40s and has lots of $$$$$$. I've talked to him a few times and he is really a cool guy. When the dunes first opened he was always there but I never saw him out on the dunes riding. When he was there he would just hang out near the gate chatting with people out there. I don't know if any of y'all remember (or were even riding out there) but for about the first couple of years after the dunes opened when Scott was running the place they would schedule parties every now and then. They had a really cool Halloween party up there on Halloween weekend a few years ago for example. Now that Barney is running the place there has been a steady decline in the quality of how the place is run as well as the overall condition of the place. I'm sure this is partially due to the increased number of people who go to the dunes now. There's a WHOLE LOT more people who go to the dunes now. I can remember going on holiday weeends and not worrying about having a place to park in the campground. Back then it was unheard of to park outside of the gate. If Barney goes up to $50 for the weekend it would be certain that he would lose business. If he ever tries to charge me $50 for a couple of days riding I will tell him as politely as possible to get f*%#@d, turn my rig around, and head back to Greenwell Springs As far as the insurance thing goes I think that is Barney's way of justifying the price he charges out there. I don't know how much his premium is but for a hunting lease I was in a couple of years ago the insurance premium for a $1 million policy was nowhere near what Barney takes in on just one regular weekend. Barney's not a dinosaur, he's a snakeBR>

Posted by: KajunATVer

Scott is the guy's first name. I'll check with some friends to see if they know his last name. A good friend of mine rented a trailer from him not too far my house in Greenwell Springs but he was killed on his street bike in August of 2001.

Posted by: yamaha4life

is it the guy you were talking about...barney has raised the prices and needs to go....

Posted by: Slinger

Sand Fest. Holly Beach. Please share more info. I want to know all about any good riding areas. Can anyone elaborate on Bonne Carre Spillway? The Dunes were kickin' Memorial weekend.

Posted by: Slinger

Would five be enough? Sounds good to me, too.

Posted by: Slinger

That area off to the left of the entrance looked like it would need less work and offer a better view. Everywhere that I went was rough, though.

Posted by: deltadawg

The Bonnet Carre Spillway is located southeast of New Orleans. You know that New Orleans is below sea level and when it floods there they turn on the huge pumps to pump out the water. Well, the spillway is where all this water will end up if it ever does flood. If I had to guess the spillway is way over 1000 acres. It has a bunch of dirt roads, sandy and dirt trails, mud boggin pits, and there is even a MX track. I haven't been there in a while. If it has been raining I wouldn't go cause it gets pretty nasty after a good rain. It's free and you must wear a helmet.

Posted by: CED

Bigds ,it's been awhile for me to.Went to Holly Beach this weekend ,had a blast.Holla when your ready for the dunes.Just got mine back together.

Posted by: CED

About 3 years back the guy that has the raptor with the R1 engine put on a huge Jamboree, there were trucks parked all the way to the blacktop. They had a kids rodeo event and they also had a semi organized drag racing event.Like you said they need to have an adult event to see who can hold on for 8 seconds. Most of the people there didn't appreciate all the work that went into it.The guy that put everything together said he would never do it again due to the few rotten apples, all in all he said he broke even with the money and Barney made out like a bandit as usual.

Posted by: CED

I'm in.

Posted by: CED

I can't make it that weekend fella's.On call weekend. You guy's be careful and have a good time.

Posted by: CED

If it's the same one that we seen in Okl. it wasn't very pretty but it was fast.It had a street bike engine. Was it blue ?

Posted by: CED

The riding area was smoothed over.Man did hell freeze over. That's a change.

Posted by: CED

badittude you talking about JJ with 250R.I see him every time i go.Yeah the old dinosaur is losing his mind to charge that much, but what everybody needs to do is get together and not go for a couple weeks and then call him and tell him why.Kinda like holding him hostage at his own place.i'm definitely not going for anymore than $15 a day.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

I think this is the longest I have been without riding at the dunes. I need a fix. Been about 6 weeks. This bites. Still trying to get the sand yacht back together.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Great to hear that you got your bike back together. Should have mine ready for the weekend if everything works out. We will be going to the dunes. Hope you cleaned the crap out of your bike ced. Last time I went to holly the sand ate my chain and sprocket even though i cleaned and oiled everything after going. Still trying to get everything ready for the ATPT nationals in Aledo the last weekend of the month.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Highlifter, Have you ordered the paddles. Going this weekend if the Sand Yacht is back together.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Shannun clue me into when and where sand fest is going to be.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Dont believe I will make sand fest. Going to go to Little Sahara in Oct. for Drag Race Wars.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

You have to remember, they all complain about heat at Little Sahara. But its a different heat there. Dry heat. I would much rather have 105 with 30% humidity, than what we see 95 with 100% humidity.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Just thinking about it. Every major riding area in the country has an event weekend. FSW, Drag Race Wars, Ds Days,. Why dont we get something together for La. Dunes. Need to find a name for it to. Coona$$ Drag Fest?

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Thats sounds about like Barney. It wouldn't cost all that much for us to put it together. Just annouce it on the forum. Have everyone meet up out there. On the Saturday have drag races and set a bracket up for who wants to run in it. Saturday night have a meeting area where all the forum members could meet up and talk. Maybe even talk someone into bringing a tractor with a box blade to smooth things out. Rope off the race area and we would be set.
The cost would be minimal. Fee to get in,stacks, flagging tape, fuel for the tractor and if we decided to cook something cost of meal. Which like in Aledo, donations are welcome.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

That brings up other questions. Will Barney help and what area to hold the drag races. The area straight back from the entrance to dunes is where most people race. Would racing at the other area to the left of the entrance be good. Its ruff in both places. Trophies would be good but we would have to get money donations up front unless someone can donate them.

How would we do classes. 2stroke and 4stroke or combine them. Then expand.
Piped Jetted.
Internals race fuel. no power adders
down to an open class with no rules. 2 or 4stroke allowed.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

First things first. Who would be willing to help put this thing together and what would the dates be.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Who here would be willing to pay 5 dollars to race plus entry fee.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

We would have to do a few things to pull this off.
1) Set a date.
2) Talk to Barney about the event and see if we could get him to smooth the area.
Atleast before the event day and once maybe twice during the event day.
3) If we decide to do trophies, find out how much They will be and how many we will need.
4) Decide what other things, we would like to do.
5) Plan the forum members meeting area.
6) Decide on brackets and if we want to run 2strokes and 4strokes together or seperate.
7) Get all supplies and items we will need together.

Have I left anything out? If I did please let me know. Also if you have any sugguestions for the above give some input.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

That sounds good so when do you want to meet up. This weekend is probably going to be out. They have me working late and I haven't gotten a chance to finish my bike.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Next weekend sounds good. I will be working on my bike all this weekend. Saturday sounds good. Yes I looked at the new yzf450. I dont think its going to out run the yamaha flagship unless Yamaha is going to redesign or add horsepower to the Raptor.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

I will be there next Saturday. I usually show up around 9 or 10 and stay till around 5 or so. Anyone have a problem with around 1pm we meet up?

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Kajun if I drive my truck its a blue extended cab Ford F-150 with a tan trim on bottom. If I ride with my cousin he drives a Green Chevy 3500 duramax diesel extended cab. But remember, you cant miss me on the dunes.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Hey did anyone go riding this last weekend? My brother and some of my friends went riding. They ran across a hybrid yamaha warrior. They said it had a raptor motor in the warrior frame. They raced it and watched it race. It beat everything at the dunes. Does anyone know about the bike or whos it is?

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

My brother said that it looked ruff. But made a point to tell me several times that it was very fast. He also told me that the riding area straight back was smoothed over and the start line was built up real high around six or seven feet.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

He said it made for good racing awesome launches because of all the rain. It packed the sand some.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Shannon, did you see my brother on his rappy. Or his buddies on the white and black shees. Did you see the warrior run?

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

There are a few of us members going this weekend. We are going to meet up at around 1:00 to get to meet each other. If you can go try and make it this weekend.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Not even sure I will make it this weekend. The chain Rk sent me was wrong. Had to send it back and they are sending me a new one. Its having to come from outside the country so I dont know if its going to make it by the weekend. I had already cut the stock one off.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Shannon talked to the people at Rk. They said that it might make it to the house Friday afternoon. It wont take five minutes to put it on. I will let you know Friday night for sure. This bits. I have been waiting to go for 2months now. If I dont get to go this weekend I wont see the dunes until 4th of July weekend. Mxrookie good to see you still around. Even if I dont get to make it, all forum members should show up anyway. We still have a long summer to go!

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Shannon, we will try for another weekend. Seems alot of stuff is coming up for everyone. Anyone going for 4th of July weekend? Yes I hate holiday weekends but a bunch of my friends are going that weekend and they are bugging me to go. So that will be my next trip to the Dunes.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Shannon, that weekend is the Atpt Nationals in Aledo. So I out for that weekend.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Ask him about bringing the lights out and smoothing for race day. Other than that nothing. Anyone else have any questions for him?

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Highlifter, Im not officially out for this weekend. I wont know until Friday night. We might not go Saturday, might be Sunday. My brother and his friends maybe able to go Sunday so waiting to see. I will let you know as soon as I find out.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Havent been bothered by them yet. But havent been in a couple months. Did you see any atvs there.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Try and pass by there on a Saturday or Sunday usually a few bikes there.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

We caught about an inch or so. The dunes are real good after a rain. Makes it packed and better for traction. To much rain packes to much and you cant leave as hard. It should be good for this weekend. Still havent gotten my chain in yet.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

I have gone twice there when the creek was to high to cross. There is a back way into the dunes. Gets muddy sometimes though.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Oh sorry, excuse my last post mrs. shannon. Fell off my bike a few months ago and hit my head real hard! Hope that helps.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Sorry everyone my chain never showed. But will will figure a date for everyone to meet up. 4th of July weekend is the next time I hit the dunes. Anyone going on that weekend.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

A few of my friends from Lake Charles decided not to go. It was raining pretty hard here and the rain was headed towards the dunes. Next weekend is out due to a family get together. So 4th of July weekend is the next trip to the dunes.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Does anyone know who the actual owner of the dunes is? Or is Barney the owner? The problem with getting another area is money. Then the insurance is expensive. I love riding in the sand. I would hate to have to find another area to ride. We tried awhile back to let Barney know what we think on his website. But nothing has happened. Something needs to change.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Maybe the owner, will understand us.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

I will start a new thread to discuss these problems.

Posted by: 1BigDSRider

Shannon, probably couldn't hurt to ask.

Posted by: mxrookie

Hey Shaunon1 , BigDs ,

I just got back in from the atv instructor training and noticed that you guys are trying to get something going on with Barney , I'll try and get up ther this weekend if all is allowable { work } <----been away for a week so much to catch up on damnit . I really feel the need to scratch an itch "sand that is " If i can finally make it up there maybe i can meet you guys face to face .

Posted by: mxrookie

Every thing went kosher I had head stories about the course that it was gonna be difficult and crap some guys doing it for 17-7 years. Heck i studied everything read up on all instructions and followed direction of the Cheif Instructor he was great to work with ! The weather kinda sucked rainy then massively muggy , worse than here . But all in all it was cool they only do 2 instructor classes a year and you have to apply so i was excited that everything was cool and there are only 8 per class if every one showes up .

I'm checking with work to see whats up for the weekend highlifterwe'll see if it;s a trip to ride alone last trip i made there was maybe 15 people there . and as the day went on they left leaving maybe 8 of us 4 of us were friends and were freeriding all over the place that was the best .

Posted by: mxrookie

Cool i waited for a Long time several weeks till i had my first live phone call . Good Luck . I guess i should try out the track here in Breaux Bridge Though I guess my last track experiences were not as great so i turned away from them but i guess i should go back at least for my son he wants to get out there one day . I'll know more about either tracking or duneing closed to saturday . I'd hope to make it mid day at least Satudray .

Posted by: mxrookie

We just got a good shower in Breaux Bridge , but still isin't gonna stop work tomorrow , I'f i'm lucky Saturday i'll get 1/2 the day to my self . Maybe my Mrs will let me do a fathers day thing .

Posted by: mxrookie

We could always call the Dinosaur and see what it looks like out at the grounds before driving several hours .

Posted by: mxrookie

Man we getting some rain down here today , Had a few hrs of work sky starts looking good load up ..........Unload unload the rain starts screwd again ... July 4 ......... hmmmmm next weekend i gotta at least go 1 day Please no rain Sat !!!!!!!

Posted by: mxrookie

I just posted the same in the louisiana riders thread . About starting a not for profit getting gov to pay us to improve riding areas and eventually pay is to maintain and run places to ride in our great state generate income for us and etc.... I have a good friend in Tx who can help with information if we can get the ball rolling .

Posted by: LakotaChicky

Posted by: shaunonl1

I have not been to the Dunes lately but let me know when ya'll go I will try to make it......swftballs do you know where ya'll are riding in Natchez...the reason I ask is b/c I grew up there.

Posted by: shaunonl1

By the way what is the deal with the sand fest?

Posted by: shaunonl1

WHo is your cousin? ask him what camp it is!

Posted by: shaunonl1

Drag race wars sounds like something that I could strat making plans for..Plus it will be alot cooler then this heat makes me dislike riding during the day right now.

Posted by: shaunonl1

Dude you definetly have a point.....Memorial weekend la dunes were like a oven on broil it sucked bad.

Posted by: shaunonl1

No more like "Rough Riders Drag Fest".......The goal........ To stay on your bike with out getting thrown off by the rough A@# sand dunes...That does seem like a good idea I would be willing to help get everything together, just let me know!

Posted by: shaunonl1

I thinkn we could do it but we need to think about getting trophies that always gets people excited...I know about 20 guys that would show that don't get on the forum! surely for the amount of money that Barney would make of of it he would be willing to take the tractor out there and smooth one spot of for us like back in the back by the Lake.

Posted by: shaunonl1

That sounds like a good idea on the classes. I think the area in the back to the right would be the best place Because of the fact there is a little shade back there on the sidelines..I think we could prob talk Barney into Smoothing it out or maybe he would let us go before on that friday and do it. Barney is all aboutthe money so I think if we were to tell him that we were going to get the word out and that he was going to make a killing off of the people that would be there he would probably agree to it....Just let me know what you think b/c I can leave early one evening from the office and go meet with him about it...Just to see how much I can get him to give in.

Posted by: shaunonl1

I would Definetly be willing to help out I live 20 mins from the Dunes so I can do it any time but we need to Prob scedule about 1 to 2 months away to give us time to get everything together....speaking of what all would we need just let me know and I will get a list together.

Posted by: shaunonl1

Next weekend Sounds good to me....Just let me know!

Posted by: shaunonl1

I plan on it...We need to decide on a time to meet up.

Posted by: shaunonl1

Sounds good to me!

Posted by: shaunonl1

I will be in a white ext cab chevy and riding a o3 le shee (yellow)

Posted by: shaunonl1

Yes believe it or not it is true....It was still a little rough after you left the start line!

Posted by: shaunonl1

Captian, I saw your brother about two times ago but not this round...I had the wife with me and her friend so every time I turned around I had to get the bike they were on moving again, (two wheel drive utility).....Hey bye the way where are we planning to meet at one?.....I am not sure about next weekend I will prob not make it that weeekend I plan to race the mx track at breaux bridge that weekend, givin that my balls swell between now and then.

Posted by: shaunonl1

Just let me know if we are going to still meet up.....If you would like I can check to see if I can come up with a chain just let me know what size and how big.

Posted by: shaunonl1

Hey I might not be able to go Sat b/c it is practice day and the Races are the next weekend...Never been on the track before got to check it out........Hey rook how did everything go?

Posted by: shaunonl1

I have planned to be there on the 28th if ya'll want to reschedule for then.

Posted by: shaunonl1

Well........Sounds like July the 4th....I can go ahead and call Barney and talk to him and see what his veiw is...Is there anything in particular You want to know about?

Posted by: shaunonl1

I thought I would be in Breuax Bridge Sat but if this rain keeps up I will be staying home Mud under your fenders can cause them to break on the jumps....I hope to make it to The Dunes if I don't go.........Rook I sent my Application in on Tuesday, hope to her something from them soon.

Posted by: shaunonl1

I am about 20 miles from the Dunes and it has rained Alot here in the last two days but they say there is still plenty to come...I think the track is def. out this weekend...I will prob go the Dunes Sat. some time...Don't forget ya'lls streamers!

Posted by: shaunonl1

Sounds about right.....You know it would be bad if we all went to the Dunes to ride and when we got back to the creek it was too high to cross!

Posted by: shaunonl1

Hey man I thought that would be a good excuse to be able to stay....If I was trapped the wife could not complain about how late I was getting home.

Posted by: shaunonl1

That might even work with my boss.

Posted by: shaunonl1

Man that sucks bad ......It is not worth 50 bucks for a weekend...I don't think we should have to pay his drug habit.....I hope he does go to fifty b/c I promise you he will loose that lease...Alot of the buiss. he gets is kids from around here there parents are not gonna pay that....What we need to do is find out who the owner is and call him to let him know that when Barney looses the place that we want it. By the way I callled Barney twice last week and he has not returned my call yet!

Posted by: shaunonl1

I think you are right I am suppose to be there the 28th but that will be the last trip for me I mean when we go there is usually about four of us....For 200 dollars we could just go to Ok....What the HE!! is wrong with that man.....Msut be smoking crack if he thinks that will last.

Posted by: shaunonl1

There are many things we should remind Barney of.I believe the Dunes are about 450 acres but on top of it being small it sucks.....The Dunes need new managment...If the right people had that place, that were out there to enjoy it and not to make them selves a millionaire, that could be a very nice place...After the 28th I will not be going back until some stuff changes...Plus I am not going to spend 100 bucks to go ride at the Dunes for me and my wife....I live in Pollock La. which is right outside of Alexandria and I know of about three other sets of pits around here and one that you can ride on for free, I am not sure of the size b/c I have never been there but I will find out from my buddy that grew up there.

Posted by: shaunonl1

Barney is not the Owner....He just leases the property....I am in the process of get the name of the guy

Posted by: shaunonl1

Is Scott this guys first or last name?...Let me know and I promise I will have Barney Kissing everyone's a#$...I work in Alexandria and live right outside Of Alex....My father-in-law is a well respected buiss. man in Alex and knows almost everyone here...If we could get this guys name I will find out what it will take to get Barney out of the picture. Which prob would not be much when this guy finds out that Barney is going to loose all of his buissness and will not be able to pay the lease...I can think of 100 diffrent ways to make More money at the Dunes if the overhead was as high as Barney says it is, without going up on the Price.

Posted by: shaunonl1

Find out for me and let me.....Then when Barney's lease runs out, he will be gone!

Posted by: shaunonl1

Is it by chance Scott Brame?...I know this guy has rental property in Baton Rouge and he is very well off.....And the good news is he is in our office about 3 times a week...I have a call into him right now just to see if he owns the property.

Posted by: shaunonl1

I got in touch with Scott Brame but it is not him...I spoke with Barney and he just redid the lease last week

Posted by: shaunonl1

Good going keep us updated!

Posted by: memejourdan

does anyone know of places to go riding in sand around baton Rouge?

Posted by: memejourdan

i think Barney has lost his mind charing 50 a weekend. when is this supposed to happen?

Posted by: HighLifterV700

Are any of yall going to sand fest? Lemme know when u go to la dunes, if I have some paddles i might go.

Posted by: HighLifterV700

Sand Fest is at Little Sahara dunes and it is Septemder 13th and 14th.

Posted by: HighLifterV700

I think I can make next weekend, I ordered my tires today, and he said they would be in next week. I got 22x11x10 Skat-Trak Extremes 10 paddles. I ordered them through SMI Motorsports. I think he might have known you bigds, he said he knew a guy from the shreveport area with a ds that buys from them.

Posted by: HighLifterV700

Is everybody still going next weekend?

Posted by: HighLifterV700

Ill prolly be one of the only 700's out there so u cant miss me. I will be in a 00 Reg Cab Black Chevy with a green 700 with hmf duals in it..

Posted by: HighLifterV700

Dang u guys... I was kinda excited about going to the dunes this weekend. I ordered my tires and everything.. Is anyone going out there this weekend or not? I dunno if I wanna drive all that way to ride by myself..

Posted by: HighLifterV700

Aight thanks DS.. I look forward to riding with you guys..

Posted by: HighLifterV700

If not the dunes BigDS, somewhere else around here maybe... We went out to the sand bars on the river in our trucks the other day.. I dunno if its the same place, but Hamels Park? It looked pretty good out there, but the cops dont bother yall?? Thanks man..

Posted by: HighLifterV700

There werent none when I went on the sand bar, but I passed by the other day and there were some trucks with dirt bikes leaving...

Posted by: HighLifterV700

I got my tires in today.. One of the rear wheels was on b/o and hopefully should be in tommorow. How is LA Dunes while its wet? LOL.... I dunno about yall, but were gettin some rain here in shreveport..

Posted by: HighLifterV700

They are saying rain all day for saturday and sunday... What yall think?

Posted by: HighLifterV700

Yall still going tommorow?

Posted by: HighLifterV700

Someone need to remind him that LA Dunes is still ONLY 300 or so acres... I dont care if it is sand or not...

Posted by: badittude

Hey everybody... Went this weekend, had a pretty good crowd.. the sand actually started out a little smoother than usual because it had rained so much.. Friday night the creek was "almost" unpassable for the bikes with the airboxes chopped up... one dude on a blaster sat there in the middle of it and kicked for an hour. Good racing saturday.. that sand is ALOT faster wet... I started losing once it dried a little.... I need some extreme haulers BAD.. the prowedge/4 snows aint cutting it on my bike..
It actually felt great during the day.. nice and cool if you didnt mind getting drizzled on.... we only had 2 short (2 minute or less) downpours...

I have been going to the dunes since Barney started running the place, and Libby was little bitty riding a ETon 50..

I got hurt there a while back and havent been for say a year.. Barney used to be pretty cool.
We got in (after getting off work in B.R., loading up and gassing up) at about 1045pm Friday night.
Some 14 year old girl with a sh1tty attitude met us at the gate and said she was deciding if she was gonna let us in, and then charged us for FRI, Sat and Sunday, even though I told her we had to leave Sat. afternoon because of Fathers Day sunday.. She spun around,, woke Barney up and he came out and backed her up..

He never charged us for Fridays when we came in late Friday nights in the past.. we would drive in after work, sleep over, ride saturday and sunday, and he always charged us 25$.
Now he wants 35 for the 3 days...

Maybe a bunch of stuff happened that Im not aware of...

Just the whole attitude of the place seems to have changed.. got the guy on the grizzly that they pay in hamburgers and the little b1tch at the gate.. Barney looks like he may be on pain meds something..

Maybe I caught em on a bad day or something, but it stung for me and my 2 kids to have to pay 25 each plus 15 to camp for just sleeping over Friday night and riding till 4 pm Saturday..

I wish I had the $$ to buy him out... Could be so much better.. have the fat ass on the Grizzly sit in that Kubota ALL DAY grading sand. Would be nice riding out there again.

P.S. Anybody seen J.J. lately? I have something I need to return to him.

Oh, yeah, He said he is about to go to 50 bucks for the weekend.. just for you and your bike.. not including RV hookups...
I guess we all need to start looking for options here...

Posted by: badittude

Only on Thompson Creek, and you have to know a landowner and they have to be with you..
A little bit on the Comite river up in Central , but same deal..
We need to find a place over here.. they have a HUGE closed sand pit up in Baywood.. be nice if that was opened up, even for a fee..

Posted by: badittude

Ok, guys, I am in right now for the SELA ATV Club. I am going Wed. just north of Baywood, La. on Greenwell Springs Road.. there is a GIANT closed pit there on the Comite river (I think) I rode past it for many years going back and forth to my hunting club on La 43. I mean it takes 6-8 minutes to ride past it at 55 mph on the highway. All those trucks you used to see going back and forth from Lafayette to Baton Rouge hauling sand and gravel, thats where they were headed. I will try to get the name of the guy that owns it.

I think with about 40 core members, if we approached a landowner as a responsible group that is looking for a ride area we can tend to and care about, and are willing to start a small non-profit organization to protect each of us and the landowner from liability, then I am sure we will find someone willing to work with us.. I spoke to one of my buddys today, and just bounced a figure off of him.. "would you be willing to pay say 100 dollars a year, to be a member of a club with about 40 - 60 core members. Just like a hunting club, if we have guests, there would be small fee to offset costs. Maybe 5 bucks a day and 10 bucks per night if we put in water and electricity for RVs. Just some ideas..

Again, Im in, and have about 6 regular riding buddies that would be in too. Maybe its time for a meeting over a beer or three and get everybody to work looking for some property.. Another place I will look is all along Greenwell Springs Road on the EAST side that floods. It is generally not buildable for any permanent buildings, but would be great for RVs and camping.. Alot of that property has some pretty good washes and gullys to make the trails interesting, some great nasty mud holes for the 4 bys and then some sections have some great beaches...

I think we have to present it to a prospective landowner that we are the same as a group of hunters that want to lease their property..

A) Organized
B) Willing to pay a reasonable lease
C) Will take care of their property (no littering or cutting of live trees without his permission)
D) We will provide an ample liablity insurance policy
E) I think it would definitely an advantage to find property next to a river somewhere, as everytime it floods, it would repair holes, erosion damage, etc..

What do yall think?

You are right about Barney. I would love to know what hole he is burying all of our money in..
For all of you that dont know.. It was me and my family that Barney told that he was going up to 50 bucks for the weekend.
To my Face. Friday night. He said "I am just about to go up to 50 bucks per weekend" "I am only open on the weekends because I am tired of everybody giving me sh1t during the week about my fees"

I said earlier, and Ill say it now, the dude has changed.. burned out.. doesnt give a crap anymore, I dont know, but he and the place are different. If he is tired of the big crowds, then he should set a number limit of bikes and people he lets in. Or he should just count all the money he's made, and retire. Again.

Because of what he did to me Friday night when I got there at 11pm (Charge me for riding Friday and Saturday). I will be forced to go up on Saturday mornings with my Fifth Wheel and Bikes, and just camp Saturday night.

I guess this is it in a nutshell.... and Barney couldnt see this:

He charge me for myself and two SLEEPING kids to ride on Friday when we simply wanted to unload and sleep Friday night. We intended on leaving Saturday at 4-5 ish so we could be back home for Fathers Day. So it cost me 75$ + 15$ for myself and my two kids to ride ONE DAY.
I felt it should have been 45$ + 15$ dollars. I brought 100 bucks because we were going to buy some T-shirts for all of us plus visit the concession stand.. guess what.. I didnt spend another CENT with him I was so pissed off. It is not just the money. They looked in my truck and saw kids sleeping. They knew it would take me a good 45 minutes or hour to set my camper up and get unloaded.

After I had a respectful discussion with him about how he used to not do this to people and that it wasnt fair, he looked me in my eye and said "Well I am just about to go up to 50 bucks per weekend, If you get here on a Friday, thats what you are gonna pay, Its after 1030 pm, you should be sitting outside this gate waiting for morning, because we normally have this gate closed for the night at 1030."

He then turned around and climbed back in the camper parked at the front gate. I looked at my camper, and seriously thought about turning it around and heading back to Baton Rouge, but I didnt want to disappoint my kids because I was p1ssed, so I paid the little b1tch at the gate and went in.

Thats the deal. This aint a rumor. He IS going up. I hope somebody who has met or knows "Scott" can get him on the horn, or get his email address and maybe we can do something before we all wind up not going to his place.

Ok everybody, here is the latest update from my searching for suitable property in the Baywood area:
I found 3 seperate pieces of property in the 175-300 acre range that were perfect.. to make a long, exhausting story short.. all the properties are involved in seccession wars.. that is, the old people that owned the properties died, and the kids didnt want to spend the money to hire a lawyer to properly divide up the estates, and now the kids have started dying, and the grandkids are now fighting over the property. (or actually who would get the money from leasing the property).

The only good news I have is that I found insurance. The deal is, you have to insure the property as a HUNTING club. There can be no ownership of ATVs by the club itself. (members are ok). There can be no boat usage on the property. Rates for 25 members are 1500$ per year for 1million dollars per incident 2 million max per year coverage.. The lady helped with the wording necessary to obtain coverage. If you all EVER mention that the primary purpose will be recreational ATV use, they will hang up on you.

I am going to expand my search for property further up La 37, maybe even into Mississippi.

Thanks guys..

Anybody know anything about the Homochitto nat forest and the river that runs through it? Maybe some property up there..

going riding up in natchez miss this weekend at cousins camp, How was everyones memorial riding went to the spillway and about 30 minute into the ride cliped the back of my friends 300 and sent me submurged into a water/mud hole from the neck down. Rode for the next 6 hours drenched and covered in mud but all was good though. Had fun and got plenty of footage for me and my friends highlight video.

shaunon1 its some where off the main hwy at my cousins camp

Posted by: swftballz400ex

shounonl1 My cousins name is nick nicosia his dads name is Donald. I forget what the name of it is but i know its named after some real famous hunting camp resort. About the bonne carre spillway. The wood trails you could probably ride over an hour ondesignated trails they have and there are a bunch of unmarked trails. There a lot of big mud holes you can get in if you like that stuff. You can also ride 4x4 trucks out there too they have trails set up for it. There is an mx track out there but it hasn't been maintained in while so there really isn't any jumps but it is long with a lot of twists and high turns. There is a drag strip too on the othersied of the railroad track but you can't go too far pass them right now because of over flow of water has covered most of that area but there are some spots you can find that the water is low enough toi cross and get to the trails in the high grass but there is a lot of deadends because of more watrer. You cant get to the other wood trails on that side cause its flooded. Hope this helps you, Also do you still live around natchez and whats your name

toget the money to do the diff things like trophies and food make an entry fee for each class like five or ten dollars figure up your costs for supplies and maybe even give cash prize to the winnersor there entry fees back.

Posted by: swftballz400ex

I've got a guy here that works for my dad who builds trophies on the side. If we get a number of trophies we need and how big to make them i could get an estimate from him

hey everyone. I went riding up at the flying w this past weekend. (kevin windham's place) He has a huge motocross track out there now of the east loop. Its not quite done yet but pretty close just needs some smoothing out. me and my friends must of stayed out there for like 4 hours riding on the track. It has some big jumps that you can get a lot of air on and there are a bunch of big hills. He even has one of those huge trailer ramps out there. The best thing about it was that we had it all to our selves. you all should check it out

What i think we need to do is start up a riding club with everyone in the forums. We need to all get together somewhere and get some ideas of what everyone wants in a place to ride. Then we need to have some fund raisers or get some people or buisnesses to sponsor our club. After we have all this established we need to look for land somewhere, we can purchase or lease to start a new riding area that doesn't cost someone $50 just to go ridefor a weekend. I think with all the people that are in these forums plus all the other people everyone else knows we could make this happen. We just all need decide if we want a new place to ride or if wanna keep complaining about there not being enough places to ride and keep shelling out our money to greedy owners like barney at the dunes. Lets do something about it.
