Hey teepee: Where do you currently ride? I will be relocating to the Charlotte area soon and am looking for places to ride.

Lethalaudio- Can you tell me where Brown Mountain is and how to get there? It may help me decide where to buy a house!
Posted by: SKT
How do you get to the trails in Cowpens and Pacolet? I live in Greenville, SC.

AF1
If you ate stationed at SAB then you are 10 minutes at the most from Manchester State Forest. They have a good netwok of trails( atvs, dirt bikes, horse , bicycle and hiking trails to). Helmets are required, and so is a 5$ a day permit,or a 25$ annual permit.
Pressure, Have you been to Francis Marion National Forest?

LethalAudio is right
Brown Mt is worth the drive for the mountain riding.

Af,
Unless they have worked on trails recently Manchester sucks. They also have a motorcross style track there-also sucks. I felt ripped off for 5 bucks. I wrote the Score webpage and let them know the condition of trails and never got a response.I even tried to volunteer to help.
Sucks = tight trails (not normally bad ) but so many whoops quad is never level for more than a quad length I kid you not. The track would have been cool if it was rideable but it obviously had been neglated for some time.
Pressure if you are looking for something low country Wambaw motorcycle trail is down there. If you liked Manchester you'll like Wambaw. They have 2 20 mile loops.
TNT is OK but last time I went track is not good for quads but they could have changed it. Whitmire (Enoree motorcycle trail) is a good trail when it is good condition. If you dont mind riding Parson's Mountian is also a good trail. There is another short trail close to it that you can ride with same fee but can't remember name now.
South Carolina is really lacking in well maintained state trails. Seems like since they have started to collect money trails have gotten worse but parking lots nicer. I went to both Parson's Mtn and Whitmere opening day last year and both trails were in horrible condition.
They should take notes from NC and WV. They have super nice trails. If you have any more questions just ask I have ridden them all.

Parson's Mountain is located just outside Abbeville. I saw I note for someplace called Berrywood Acres or something in Camden. I have to go back and get number.

Here should be some good info www.sctrails.net

Anyone rode any state trails this year? Have they opened yet? Any good MX or trails on private land?
Posted by: LethalAudio
I went to Wambaw when it first opened this year...it was terrible. The trails were so dusty I couldnt see my tires half the time. There were those little sand fleas down there that (quite literally) tortured us the whole time. And the mud stank to no end. It was nothing but flat trails. I personally didnt like it and wont ever be going back. We found out later in the day that my friends grandmother passed away and we obviously opted to leave very quickly, as opposed to staying the night.
The best place I have ever been is Brown Mountain, NC. Excellent trails...very technical riding. Its hard to find any good registered trails in SC. The best places around here for my friends and I are my families land and some public trails made by many many people over the years on public land around the rivers, lakes, and highways. But thats just my opinion.
Posted by: LethalAudio
We discussed coming back when it rained, but at the end of the day, we voted against it...you tend to get a little pissed when you cant stand still for 2 seconds for fear of getting bitten by dozens of bugs at once. The day we went down there, there was only a handful of people to be seen and only one family was camping other than us. By the time 8:00 rolled around, the place was packed...and thats an understatement.
Posted by: LethalAudio
Ive been to Enoree, not a bad trail, but its too short. Honostly, I think my opinions have been thrown off because the first trail I ever got to ride on was Brown Mountain, NC. I rode that trail the day after I got my four-wheeler and all the other trails have just been kinda boring. But thats just my opinion. I think the best trails are the ones you hear about by word of mouth. Especially around I-85 and Pacolet river.
Posted by: LethalAudio
well, the thing is, all the "open fields" and stuff are privately owned. Im one of the lucky few in SC. My family owns a butt load of land so i dont have to go out lookin for places to ride. But if you go around and look for trails on the side of the road, follow them. Thats what we do here. There are a ton of trails around here that are only known by the locals and they are better than some of the more well knowns ive been on. Its like I said...the best trails are the ones discovered by word of mouth. Just where exactly do you live?
Posted by: LethalAudio
dude, brown moutain is THE place to go. and since summer is going to be winding down, itd be a great time to go when it cools off. that place is great...barely any dust, very technical trails, or very easy trails, they even have big jeep trials, and its all in the shade of the woods. I dont recall ever having trouble with bugs either and the scenery is beautiful aaaaaand they have camping places. Me, my dad, and a few friends plan on goin back down there sometime and campin out. We rode for about 6 hours and we only covered about 3/4 of the trails. That place would get a 10 out of 10 from me. Its just great, and well worth the drive too.

Sure thing,
http://users.gloryroad.net/~orion/INDEX2.HTM should provide some direction. I cant tell you exactly where it is, we had to leave the house at about 5 to get there at 7. By the time I got there, I was already asleep.
Ah, here we go, I got another page
http://www.atvconnection.com/editor/feature/northcarolina/ride.htm just for the record, it has 45miles of trails...whoa.
and yet another
http://www.mountaintravelguide.com/4x4%20Trails/North%20Carolina/burke/Brown%20Mountain%20OHV%20Trail.htm
you should be able to find it in a map search thingy on the net. Or if you have Microsoft Streets and Trips, that'll work too.
ooooor, you can try http://terraserver.microsoft.com
you can type in an address, find the house, see sat photos of the house, find houses for sale around the area, find detailed info about the locals and businesses....all for free. Its quite amazing. They have photos of the entire US. I cant tell you how much time Ive spent lookin at that site.
If you still cant find it, Ill ask my dad, he should know something.

I dont get anywhere near Greenville. Cowpens and Pacolet are where most of us ride. The family of one of my friends owns a large peach (as well as other produce) farm and market. Lots of the land around is peach tree fields and they let us ride on them. But there is a ton of trails around here to ride aside from the fields. You just gotta find someone that knows where they are. Prettymuch any undeveloped land has a trail on it.
Posted by: LethalAudio
Just head in there near a truck stop and look around. You can see a ton of trails from 85 between Spartanburg and Cowpens. It helps to know some people down here though. But pretty much any clear Sunday, you can find people riding. I really dont know how to tell you, I just kinda know where they are. I have a photographic memory, so I know all the locations, but I dont know the names of any of them or any roads or anything.

Im not sure about how legal it is to ride in any park. But here in SC there are trails everywhere. There is a good bit around the beaches. There are a few parks down there that let you ride in them during certain seasons, but Im not sure which ones. Ive been only a few times.

There is a place in Cherokee County where highways 211 and 105 split that has a lot of trails. You are supposed to get a membership which lets you use the campgrounds as well as the trails. Alot of good trails down there. Its where they had an atv poker run a few months back and a ton of riders showed up. I have heard of a place on Hwy. 221 just over the NC state line that has very good trails, got to get hooked up to the right people to find those trails. I have ridden in some peach orchards around Cowpens also.
Cowpens is my stomping grounds. Those peach fields are owned by some friends of my family. Youd be surprised how many people ride them. There are a ton of places around Pacolet, and then there is Chicken hill, and the tunnel under 85 that people talk about. Holla at me sometime during the summer, me and some friends will give you the tour.

Yea, unless you unload your quads right next to it, you have to take a few backroads. There are about 4 entrances that I know of, I gotta start taking notes next time I ride. I know how to get there but I cant tell anyone because of the way I think. I got a photographic memory. I know it, but I dont know names. There is one that one entrance that is someones long driveway. Its a tight winding road. They dont mind so long as you dont cut across it and rut it out more. They like for you to come up the driveway itself and turn off it.
Most of the cops around the place dont really mind you riding on the roads as long as you obey the laws. Ive been riding them for about 3 years and Ive never had any trouble with them.
My buddy just screwed up his quad so Im not going to be riding for a while either. Ill probably save up and buy a new one or something. I need a new toy.
Posted by: LethalAudio
Anyone can ride them. Its right off the frontage road near the bridge, just pull off onto the dirt road beside the bridge, unload, and ride all you like.
BTW, I have my 01 250ex for sale if anyone is interested, email me at lethalaudio@bellsouth.net
Im asking $1900

Any good places in south carolina to ride atv's
Posted by: teepee
Whitmire (Enoree motorcycle trail) should be opening this week. They close it down for a couple of months to repair ruts and other things. I agree that there aren't too many places to ride. I usually ride with friends on private land. We have about 1000 acres that we can ride on.
Posted by: teepee
Where's Parsons Mountain? I live in Rock Hill, is it close?
Posted by: teepee
I went to Enoree OHV yesterday, had a blast. They cut some new trails, some pretty tight turns but good riding. Check out the site www.sctrails.com it will tell you how to get there.

I'm moving to the Myrtle Beach area in the next few months and was wondering about where to ride and how legal is it in SC. Here in NJ there is one legal riding park for the whole state. Caught riding anywhere else and you get your bike impounded and a big fine.

The part of the Pacolet river where we ride is at I-85 near Kosa which is between Cowpens and Spartanburg. You could go to Mr.Waffle I think exit 83, park in the back and the trails start there. To get to the river you have to ride on a couple of country roads to get there or at least thats the only way I know to get there.

I'm coming to Myrtle beach and need to know where to ride there!!!!

Hey all,
I am a member of SCORE and received a heads up on a new place called Carolina Adventure World opening in April 2006. Check out this link and tell me what you think. I am always looking for new places to ride that have more than a few miles of trails. I am personnally excited about it.
Hope this pans out and helps everyone,
