I'm from Grand Marais, MN and Hibbing, MN. Grand Marais is just about as NE as you can get in MN. Seems like Grand Marais is one of the main access's to the BWCA, so it has more tree huggers than cool people, also lots of No Tresspassing. Up in Hovland is some good riding, mainly just pick a road and go on it, once in awhile you'll come accross a small gravel pit to play in and there was a pretty big forest fire up there this last summer and that was neat riding through a couple of weeks after they got it out. I'm in Hibbing, MN right now. There is tons of trails here. 4 wheelers ride right down the roads to get to the trails, I've seen a lot of steep old mining hills to climb.

I am planning on riding in north east minnesota in mid-October. We are looking at going to the Irontrail OMV area. Has anyone been there? What is your opinion of this trail system. Are there better places to ride up north? I noticed that it is closed after dark and I like to ride at night. Are there trails located within 30 miles or so that are worth hitting that I could ride at night. I plan on staying at area hotels and was wondering if you have any recemendations on them or must hit places to eat. Last question, do you need to take along extra gas or do all the trails have gas stations that are accessable. Last year I rode the Redtop trail and thought it was pretty nice. Thanks in advance for any info you might have.

What is the name of the trails in Danbury and how many miles of trails are there. I plan on spending about 4 days riding, will this area have enough trails. Also, any motels around?

BartlettRacing, do you have any suggestions on hotels or restaurants in the area. Also, are all these trails actually in Wisconsin and if so do you know if they close down after OCT.15th like the Black River Falls trails?

Familyman,

If you want to ride the Danbury trails (IE Gandy Dancer) some friends of mine and I are heading up that way in mid to late october. I'm from the Red Wing area (about 1hr straight up from Winona). We'd be glad to show you around.

Their will be about 4 or 5 of us, and we're only riding for a day, but we'll be hitting much more than the Gandy.
It's kinda boring...straight and long.

We'll be hitting the Nemadji state forest for sure, which is a blast at all times of the year.
Hope you got a 4x4.

If you're interested in hooking up, shoot me an email, and we'll discuss. You could follow us up if that fits your plans.

I ride with approx 20 guys and a couple of wives. Although I don't think any of the females will make this one. Too cold ya know!!BR>
Let me know.

The main trail that runs through Danbury is called the Grandy Dancer Trail, and there is many trails off of that.
What I would try to do is spend two days at Danbury then drive and spend two days at the Iron Range OHV Park.

Family,
To start you off check
THE MN DNR

The Iron range is supposed to be cool. Opens officially this weekend with ribbon cutting Oct. 5th. As far as trails close by their is the reddot and a couple state forests. To the southwest of duluth by 30 min or so there is a higher concetration of forests/dnr trails.
Hope this helps to get you started, but i am sure you knew the DNR list already.

Later
Scott
