Andy i live in osceola AR. about 60 miles north of you. Where do you ride? Chris Brown, 99400EX

Posted by: CB400EX

Andy, there are about 7 of us that go to Turkey Bay OHV area in Kentucky. Have you Been there?? Its a great place for woods riding and hill climbing. Ive never been to blanchard springs to ride, sounds good though. We ride along the Mississippi river here, when the waters down like it is now its pretty good riding. How old are you and what do you ride? I am 33 and ride a 400EX with some slight mods (pipe,jet-kit,and K&N filter). Most of the guys i ride with have banshees and some 4 wheel drives. Im the only 400 here. Chris Brown, 99400EX [This message has been edited by CB400EX (edited 12-12-1999).]

There is a track outside of Milan that I raced in October when I was home on leave. Let me know if you need explicit directions. It's in the boonies, so it's difficult to find. I don't know if they're open in the off season. ------------------ Michael "Lordmik" Magee Stranded on a tropical island, for now...

I live in memphis too. I usually go riding at natchez trace, arkabutla lake, chickasaw, and pickwik. I am going to have to check out those sand pits. I used to ride a banshee but now i got a 98 cr125.

Posted by: BrianP

Oh yeah, do any of you know where there is a motocross track within 100 miles of memphis, i know there was one in dyersberg and jackson, are there any others?

Posted by: BrianP

Well i cant seem to find my map right now, but i can post directions tommorow when i find it. I cant remember the names of all the highways and interstates. Natchez trace is the best place i have ever ridden. It has 5 or so thousand acres of riding space. There are alot of fireroads, hills, tight trails, mud, you name it. It is right out side of Jackson Tn. Chickasaw is mostly fireroads, verywide open and there are some tight dirttrails, but there is alot of space to ride. All the roads are connected, you could go for days and not find the end of the road. Arkabutla has a little of eveything. Not as big as natchez or chickasaw, but it is very fun. There are about 2 or 3 different acess areas. I have only ridden on these logging roads at pickwik that have some of the biggest hills you could imagine, but i hear there is some really good trail riding up there and pipelines, oh yeah, if you go to natchez, try the pipeline, that is some of the most challenging and fun riding i have ever encountered. I think pikwik would be closest for the arkansas folks. I have never ridden the official riding area there though. But if you get the chance, i recomment natchez, ill try to get those directions soon.

Posted by: BrianP

ok, found the map. To get to natchez, you get on interstate 40. Im sure you know of 40 because it runs through arkansas. Then just take 40 all the way through memphis and keep going past Jackson and natchez is about 10 miles past jackson. There will be a sign for it on 40 becase it is a state park. Exit off to the right, and that road will take you through the park. Along all of the roads through the park there are the trails off to the side. It is a huge park, and there is camping, rv camping and cabins. And for the rest, i really cant tell you how to get there because i am not a good map reader. All of these places are on a Tn. map, pickwik is on the Tn. river, it is a really big lake, im sure you have heard of pickwik dam. Chickasaw is a state park. IT looks like you go down 64 until you hit 100 and go down 100 and you'll be there. Arkabutla is in ms. It is right outside or hernando. The only one of these places i have driven too is natchez, i went with someone else the other times. Just look at a Tn. map and you should be able to decipher it better than me. They are all well know places, so ask around and im sure you can find someone who knows better than me. When i said pickwik is the closest, its not, id say arkabutla or chickasaw, then natchez. BTW i live in Cordova.

Hey Gang I was just worndering if anyone else here lives in or around Memphis and where do you ride? I live in Southaven MS which is just on the out skirts of Memphis. I only know a couple or other quad ridders in the area but I know there has to be more. Andy G

Posted by: Andy~G

Hey Chris Mostly I just ride around my house. I have about 100 acres of woods about a half mile away and that is where I do most of my ridding. The best place I have rode is in the Ozarks in the Blanchard Springs area just outside Fifty Six AR. Theres tons of trails and old logging roads. You can ride allday and never go down the same one twice. Andy G

Posted by: Andy~G

I have heard of Turkey Bay but I havent been there and it sounds like a good place to ride. I am 29 and have a 98 Polaris Xplorer 400 which I love. I think it is the perfect bike for me. Andy G

Posted by: Andy~G

Hey fourtrax2000 That place sounds great. If you could, would you post or email me directions on how to get there. Thanks Andy G

Posted by: Andy~G

Nope I havent been to either place yet but plan to before long. I know a guy that rides in the Coldwater bottoms and he say that it is great but the it is usually a compleate mud bog and is best suited for 4X4's. Also heard that there are good trails at Sardis but dont know yet. Thanks Again Andy G

Hows it going? I live in south east memphis, three miles north of olive branch MS. i usually ride around my house (where they are clearing land for housing) but on dry weekends i go to AR. I ride a 400ex, my wife rides a 250recon and my freind that lives in marion AR rides a 300ex. There is a place about 5 miles outside of marion called fowler sand and gravel pits. It is fairly popular with the people around the area. There are three magor sand pits with hill climbs for all temperments, various jumps, trails, and long road for late afternoon drag racing. The best part is when you make a new hill by the next weekend it is completely different(being a working sand pit). lots of freindly folks riding atvs, dirt bikes, and occasionally sand buggies (it is cool to see them climb 20ft hills). just thought i'd let you know. ride safe and have fun!

Posted by: fourtrax2000

Sure I will post them tomorrow I have to call my freind to get highway #'s and spacific directions (as not to get you lost). thanks. Buy the way have you ever riden at coldwater or sardis a guy i know that works at al's cycle shop rides there alot, so do the guys i work with.

I'm back. yes scotster750 is the one with the 300ex. Unfotunatlly I have been unable to reach him today. and he has not returned my e-mail yet. He has the accurate directions(since he live about 5 miles from there and wont get you lost) i just follow him and unfortunatly am not familiar with the road names. anyhow i will see him tomorrow at work. so be cool i will post them shortly. thanks and keep checking in.

Posted by: fourtrax2000

Hey Andy and CB400ex have either of you been riding at pickwick. just wondering if it is any good alot of my co-workers ride there. I'll be back to post the directions in a minute. see ya. Johnathan 400ex.

Posted by: fourtrax2000

O.K. If you come across the old bridge into AR on 55 go north towards blythville/st.louis. follow 55 til you come to the marion sunset exit. Then exit off 55 till you come to a red light and turn left onto 64highway west(you will be going under the 55 overpass. this is the part i'm a little scetchy on. take 64 west for a while you will past a cemetary on you right then as you come around a gradual curve there will be a little whit house to your left. Fter you pass that house be looking for a downhill entrance road (paved) if this road does not have a small metal bridge on it you are on the wrong road (the bridge is about 200yrds froms road entrance).follow this road to you first dirt road on your left, there should be a sign saying fowler sand and gravel pits. this road will take you back to the two amin pits. If these directions confuse you then email me and we can meet one weekend at a place that we know and you can follow me out there, since we don't live that far apart. johnathan fourtrax2000@yahoo.com

To who it may concern,it sounds as though this sunday may be a good riding day at the sand pitts outside marion.Just checked the weather and dave brown says that only a few sprinkles sat, then dry and 52 on sunday. If you guys(cb400ex and andyg)are interested i'll be out there for atleast a few hours.Gonna talk to fourtrax2000 thursday and he'll probably go also. We usually get out there around 10 am so we have the whole place to ourselves for a long time.My e-mail adress is scotster750@webtv.net. Let me know if your interested. Also sounds as though i may finally have a legitimate reason to take the missus to blanchard springs next summer. She's been wanting to go for a long time anyhow.Sounds like some good riding. scotster

I do most of my riding here on the riverbanks. There are some nice dunes on the sandbars here on the arkansas side. I have several friends who like to go riding.

Hey Folks, I see this is a fairly old thread but I recently got back into riding after about a 10 year break. I am having a hard time finding any good riding areas around Memphis. I know they shut down the Wolf River Trails off Covington Pike and I-40.

My cousin and I made a trip up to Turkey Bay up at "Land Between the Lakes" this past weekend and had a blast but thats about 3 - 3 and a half hours away. I also have heard about that area up off of Hwy 59 in Covington Tn. and will prolly go check that out this weekend as thats only about 45 min or so from where I'm at.

Are any of these other places that have been metioned in this thread still open to riding? I hear that Tenn. has recently closed down ALOT of riding areas and Im hoping to maybe get a heads up before I go hunting for some of these places only to find out that they have been shut down.

I am always on the look out for somewhere to ride and would love to hook up with anyone anywhere who also loves to ride.

Thanks, any info at all would be greatly appreciated.
