Finally seeing significant noise from No. Vermont on here.
The club you speak of is the "Green Mtn. 4 Wheel Drive Club". I've talked with them and they say some ATV's do ride along with them. I asked them specifically about Eagles Ledge. Sounds like a good ride.

I also do most of my riding in Canada. Easily do 60-70 miles a day taking numerous stops, gas and lunch breaks. Its worth the $25/day or $85/year Canadian funds. The trails are closed for the thaw from 3/15 till 5/15. We'll be going back on 5/19. Anyone interested can email me. Our group is normally 5 to 12 ATV's and, as I remember, all serious mud holes have "chicken routes". Its only 30 minutes or so north of the border. Click down below to see pictures of rides from Nov. and Feb.
GreenMountnGrizz, I keep my ATV's in Milton. Do a little riding in an area off from Lake Rd. Have you ever ridden that sandy area across from the Milton Diner? If so, is there much riding? Trying to find a nice easy area I can take my 8 year old son.
Some of us are planning on going to NH to ride with the NH ATV club on a ride up the Mt. Washington toll road on 6/2.

Gibou Rd. wild in springtime?? I visit a camp up there during deer season. You follow a mile long line of female mannequin heads stuck in the trees to get to the camp. Have to kick beer cans out of the way to get in the door. Then drive out in 4WD low hoping not to wind up in a ditch.
I think that place is wild all year long!?

Piranha, we pre-arrange to meet a trail director at his business for anyone who may need a pass. He rides with us whenever he can, his wife too. You need to be registered, have proof of insurance, working head and brake lights.
GreenMountnGrizz, what field are you talking about on Lake Rd.? Is there parking? On Lake Rd. about 4.5 miles from Rt. 7 I cut into a field. (that has some power lines in it) The field stops where a swamp begins, but look closely for an old town rd. that goes through the swamp into the woods and will bring you over to Hibberd Rd. Its got a few offshoots to other areas. Most terminate shortly. Some I haven't gone to the end of. When the weather gets warmer, I think I'll see whats going on in that sandy area. Maybe some quiet day I can go in and keep my distance from the builders.
vermontmagnum, did you go up to Canada with your cousin? Maybe you went on the last trip that I was unable to make?
When the date gets closer to our Canada ride, I'll try to post something on here. We normally meet around 8 a.m. in the Swanton Grand Union parking lot.

GreenMountnGrizz, I always appreciate an invite. Give me a good heads up when you're going out. scavanau@zoo.uvm.edu
I know the gas line you're talking about and that's different from my little area. Although, if I could figure how to hook them up it would be great. I don't live there and know the area just a bit.
Piranha, Decarreau is a popular name in Winooski but I don't recognize Jody. Keep that website updated!
Mark your calenders for May 19th. I'll keep everyone posted.

I ride in North Western Vermont. We've got a lot of area where we ride. Whenever the snow leaves we are working on a new trail system (with permission of course). If you know of any good areas where it is okay to ride feel free to drop me a line. Thanks.

Thanks for the response. It's very unfortunate that Vt. doesn't have more places to ride. I have "heard" about the Island Pond trail, but I'm not aware if it is an "official" trail or not. I know they are very scarce. We ride a lot on private land (with permission), and there are a few back roads that we go on (no one seems to mind). There are a ton of snowmobile trails that we COULD go on, but most land owners don't want ATV's on them so we obviously don't. Just 15 minutes north of my house is the Canadian border, and there they have a massive trail system, but we would have to get the quads registered in order to drive them up there. Oh well, looks like we'll have to make do with what we have, it could be better, but it could also be worse. Thanks again for the reply.

Hey GreenMtnGrizz and VtMagnum,
Thanks for the replies guys. I just moved to St.Albans last summer so I guess that I'm pretty close to both of you. I ride in Montgomery and Belvidere mostly though. Grizz, my parents house is the last house on the right before you get the the Gibou road. That is usually the road that we go to get to all of the trails that we ride on. I know of Tallmans store, and the Bog Road comes out just above my one of my riding buddies' house. We went riding up there a few times, but we couldn't make it all the way up on either of the two trails that we tried. There are normally three of us that ride together. I ride a '98 Polaris Sport 400L, my friend Matthew rides a '98 Banshee, and my friend Andy rides a '85 200x 3-Wheeler (which is currently up for sale). We are all 2x4, but we do pretty good. You can check out pic's and stuff if you click on the link at the bottom of my messages. Have you ever been on the trail that goes from Belvidere to The Gibou road in Montgomery? It get's prett wild in the spring time. We'll deffinatly have to hook up some time. I'm not sure if you can have other people join you in Milton, but if you are ever up in Montgomery let me know. My email address is jlanphear@globalnetisp.net if either of you guys want to ride together now that we have finally gotten rid of that stupid snow. Thanks again for the response. Take care.

Hey Magnum,
Thanks for the reply. Do you have any more info about the club you joined or how I could find out more about it? Thanks for the great info. I didn't know it was that easy.

Hey Sugarhead,
I don't think that you need any type of license or anything to operate an ATV up here, but there are a lot of other little rules pertaining on where you can ride. 4 wheeler are "supposed" to be registered unless you are riding on your own land or have WRITTEN permission by the land owner. However since there aren't many trails here a lot of people don't even bother registering there quads anyway, but personally I think it is a good idea regardless. I'm also not sure of the Glover area. I don't imagine that there are many "cops", but you still find a lot of game warden's and constables in even the smallest of towns. If you are going to be with friends, then I'd say that they wouldn't lead you into any bad places. Sorry that I'm not much help, wish I knew more. Happy trails.

Haha, wild in that sense YES, all year round! I meant that it was wild in terms of mud in the spring. Either way, it's always interesting when you get up there.

Hey Shannon,
Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that it was that cheap...$85/year is awesome. I'll talk to my buddies and see if they want to do that. If so we'll have to tag along with you are your crew. How do you go about getting registered up there? Do you do it at the Boarder or do you have to call somebody? Also, I see that you are from Winooski, do you know a guy by the name of Jody Decarreau? He's a friend of mine that lives in Winooski also. Anyway, thanks again for the info. Take care.

Hey Grizz,
I just checked out the pics on your page, they look really good. Did you get my reply to your post above? Let me know when you plan to be in the area. Take care.

Hey Grizz,
A couple of friends and I went to the top of the Gibou last week. We headed onto the trail that goes over to Belvidere and made it maybe a mile up. My friend with the 200x 3-Wheeler was in the lead and he couldn't make it any further. I was following him, and I was spinning a little, but could have gone farther. My other friend was behind me on his Magnum 500 and he was still in 2 wheel drive so he probably could have gone all day. Now I'd imagine it is harder to go since we have had warmer weather. It will probably be another couple of weeks before the snow is gone up there, and that's if we get some warmer weather. Like I said, my parents house is at the bottom of the road and they still can't see grass on their lawn, so we still have a ways to go. I'll keep you posted on it, and maybe we'll meet up some time. I'd imagine that we probably can't get over the top of the mountain without some 4x4 help. Talk to ya later.

josh,
unfortunatly I only get up to VT a few times a year.Due to the long ride 4hrs I limit myself to north east side; caladonia county, St. Johnsbury
area, I have friends in this area. We have about 8 of us who get together to ride mainly privite land and the secondary roads, but we heard word that there is a trail system from St. J to Island pond. We will be up there memorial day weekend looking into it. My state has very little riding areas(mostly privite)out by back door I have access to 1000 acres which isnt much. We need more rights to ride the state lands throughout the U.S. we as tax payers pay for this land,we as tax payers should get to use this land!!! Back to the trails question When I get back from VT I will post any trail system I hear of.
2000 xplor 400 4x4
2000 warn winch (a must)
delta 2 v-force reeds
many other acces.

Hi Josh, We ride in milton from our back yards and someone also told me about eagles ledge that runs near Eden down to Barre. We also ride up in your neck of the woods. my buddy has a camp on gebou road in montgomey and another friend has a camp in Belvediere just up the road from tall mans store so we ride the bog road alot. I heard that for $15. you can join a club called Green mountain trail riders and ride any of the trails and also alot of the roads to get to the trails. What kind of bikes do you have? we should hook up some week-end.
Posted by: GreenMountnGrizz
Hey Scavanau,
We ride just off from lake road across from lake arrowhead. my son and I use to ride in the sand pit across from the diner but they are starting to build there now and don't really want people to ride there any more. in the field on lake road and poor farm there are some trails that your son would love, pretty easy. we also ride in georga up to silver lake but thats getting hard to get in and out of also. up there you really need a 4x4 or you will be beating the snot out of your bike. anyhow we should hook up and ride some time.

Hey Josh,
My buddy went up to check out his camp about 2 weeks ago and said that there is a ton of snow still. Hows it doing now? melting fast? Maybe in a couple of week we will head up there if you keep me posted on the snow. We went last year around may and the snow on top of the mountains was impassable and we all had 4x4s. we also rode with some guys that has a camp right across from edin pond just off from the bog road. that was a good time, lots of mud and water, untill I sunk my grizz going up a stream to a water fall. Had to be pulled out when my belt started to slip. would also like to try it up in canada some time, heard it was a blast. maybe tag along with scavanau this summer. I ride with about 5-10 bikes, mostly honda but that's okay, they make for good traction LOL.

hey scavanau,
You can see part of our trail from a pull off right across from lake arrowhead on rt. 7. I think you might be able to unload there and hit other trails. It's pretty limited but better then not riding at all. We also ride in the woods of the lumber yard but they only let a few neiborhood people ride in there. i know the area your talking about. It passable in the winter but its a swamp by now. you end up on the gas pipe line if I remember right and come out near Bobs gun shop. Would like to try that canada ride with you some time, my son lives in swanton about half mile from grand union so would be easy to up. If your interrested in a night ride some time around here like me know and the next time we go I can let you know..
