extended warranties are great... unless the local dealer is a pain in the butt about honoring the warranty, or will not return your wheeler unless you "pay." I've only had this happen to me once (CV boots are not covered in a polaris extended warranty), but wouldn't ever use the local kawi-yamaha dealer just because of the horrible rep of the service dept. Once you are in there once... you keep coming back more needing more repairs.
so... get to know your dealer first.

I have had to use my warranty on the Grizzly. While riding in TN at Windrock I hit a log along side the trail while in mid wheelie with the left front wheel. I felt a jerk on the bars but didn't think to much about it, until I started to sense a difference in the handling. I checked the front end and didn't notice anything right away and kept riding. The longer I rode the worse it got. Once back at camp realized a bent lower A arm. I was a bit shocked because it didn't seem like a big hit, but the Yamaha warranty guy said that the EPS absorbs so much shock that I probably hit worse than I thought. They did replace the part at no cost, about $125, but would not pay for installation, but my dealer came thru, Obermeyer Yamaha in Jasper,IN, and put it on for free. Could not be more happy, zero problems since.

Have not used the warranty at all on our Grizzly 700. It didn't start very well when real cold last winter, but it sure isn't cold now, so that problem fixed itself. It boils gas in the gas tank on real hot days, but other than being able to hear the gas boiling when the engine is turned off it isn't a problem, and has not effected performance in any detectable way. The only damage to the Grizzly so far was a bent shifter linkage from a few really big jumps on a motocross track, and I re-adjusted the shift linkage on my own to take care of that problem. The ITP C-series 14" wheels got bent from those jumps as well, so they were a bit nuts for a utility quad. Overall our Grizzly seems like a reasonably tough ATV.

You can buy four of the new ITP SS wheels for the price of that one stock wheel, and the ITP wheels have a lifetime warranty against structural damage. If it were me I would tell the dealer to just keep that stock wheel.

It would just keep turning over and never fire. One time we had loaded it on the trailer the night before, and then left to ride early in the morning when it was about zero degrees outside. When we got to the riding area every ATV in our group started except for the new fuel injected Grizzly that was supposed to be better at starting because of the fuel injection. It just cranked and cranked and cranked, and never did fire up. I finally went back home and everyone else rode without me. I had to tow it up the driveway and into the garage when I got home because it still wouldn't start. After it had sat in the heated garage for three hours or so it started right up though.
It did this numerous times over the winter. If it was zero or colder and the Grizzly had been outside it wouldn't start. I took it to the dealer twice, and they were so clueless you wouldn't believe it. They couldn't fix it because they said nothing was wrong with it. They tried changing the fuel injection with the pod mod a couple of times, and that did not make a difference in starting. Changing to 5w30 oil helped though, and I personally suspect there may be an oil pressure sensor somewhere that prevents the engine from starting if it doesn't sense oil pressure. With 10w40 the oil was so viscous at zero degrees that it took too long to get to the sensor, and it wouldn't start. That is a theory I have though, and some people have looked on a schematic diagram for the Grizzly and said there isn't a sensor for that; so who knows. In any case, lighter weight oil definitely lets it start easier, and I adapted the way I rode the Grizzly in cold weather. I kept it in the garage at night, and never had a problem with it starting when it was kept inside. If I went for a ride in cold weather I would load it on the trailer in the morning instead of the night before. Eventually weather warmed up and the problem went away. We did use our Grizzly for plowing our driveway, and as long as it was parked inside at night it worked great.

The lifetime warranty on ITP wheels I spoke of is only on the SS style wheels. T9s are essentially the same as Douglas .190 billet wheels. They are light weight wheels best suited for sand dune drag quads that don't ever get in the air, or hit a rock. For that light of a wheel you need to get them with reinforcing rings like the T9 Baja wheels, or with beadlocks to have any strength at all. Just plain T9s are soft as butter, but Douglas wheels in that style are no better if that is any consolation.

I have bought extended warrentys in the past and never used them. I have had my wolverine 450 for close to a year now and still have not had to have any problems repaired at a dealer.

When I bought my YAMAHA 700 GRIZZ I was torn in getting the extended warranty. So I decided not to get it and just stick with the 6 month warranty.
I wanted to ask all the GRIZZ owners if they have used there warranty at all. Also, has anyone used there warranty to fix the power steering on there GRIZZ. This was the really grey area I was concerned about since the power steeing is so new.

Thanks for the response DesertViper good to hear that the 700 Grizzly are tough solid. I hope my GRIZZ will start in the winter, I am planning to put a plow on it and use it for my long driveway. Now I know what you mean about the gas boiling last week it got really, really hot here and man that machine got hot. As you stated it did not affect the performance. I was concerned about the plastic but it did not seem to bother it. Last week my son was up from out west and we went riding (he borrowed my father-in-law Honda me on my GRIZZ and another buddy on his 400 YAMAHA. We were riding trails and going through some deep swamps, we came upon a rocky area and I felt a jolt going over one of them. It was kind of funny because with the power steering I never feel anything. Anyway, we stopped by a lake to have lunch and my son says dad what's wrong with your right front rim. I looked down and dam it all to hell my right front rim was bent back a good 4". I must have hit that rock the wrong way or something. All the air was out of the tire, my buddy had a axe we bent it back we also had a small air pump can you believe it and we put enough air to get me back to my truck. I called my dealer and because my Yamaha is a special addition it has a different rim than the regular blue, red and green ones. You won't believe this but the dam rim cost $258.00.......... I almost fell of my seat.......... I called a few other places and it's pretty close to being the same......WOW......... I have not looked into it yet but I wonder if these rims are under warranty........ I don't think so.......but it will not hurt to try.............
You never know what might happen when your out 4wheeling....... :-)

Yes I agree with you you can buy four new ITP SS wheels for that price...it's crazy.........
You stated that your GRIZZ did not start very well in the real cold weather. What happens it just won't turn over at all ??? How many times did you have to try before it actually started...... Is there a way to prime it so it can start on the first try... I know on my 350 Honda I primed it a couple of times and away it went.......

Well that must have sucked going back home while your buddies went riding. Thanks for the tips of keeping the GRIZZ inside in the winter time and using 5W30 oil, that's really good know. You stated that you also have used your Grizzly for plowing your driveway. I was talking to a few people and they indicated that if you put a plow on your 4wheeler that it really takes a beating...... Have you herd anything about this.........cause I really want to put a plow on my'n this coming winter...........

My extended cost $480.00ish I believe. It's worth it to me. Unless your a mechanic, and have the means to diagnose EFI, your power steering and other covered issues. Just my opinion. Good luck with your machine I heard they are great. Drive safe.

My GRIZZ is a really great machine it really is...... ya I should have gotten an extended but stupid me I did not........so hopefully fingers crossed the power steering and everything else will be OK.........it seems the power steering is really rock solid I have not come across a friend or anyone on any forums having problems with it...........YAMAHA really hit it big with the power steering......

I bought a set of ITP t9's (black) and some ITP h-d hole shots that only lasted about a week, I bent every single rim and the front rims cut slits in my tires, riding at 4psi, will they help me out? I wasted about $700.00 on ITP, I went to my dealership (I bought them through them) asked what I should do, and they basically told me I was beat.

I dont own a Grizzly, but in my opinion all it will take is one little thing like a sensor, and you will regret not having the extended, I had my ride for one month (although the six month wouldve covered) and the throttle sensor went on mine, parts and labor cost Yamaha $450.00 in one shot. My extended cost $480.00ish I believe. It's worth it to me. Unless your a mechanic, and have the means to diagnose EFI, your power steering and other covered issues. Just my opinion. Yeah, I kicked myself in the @ss with this one, the wife wont let me spend more money on wheels, not yet anyway, but thats what I'm going to go for, some beadlocks in the front and bajas in the rear, or a full set of either or, I didnt even think it out when I bought them, I just wanted the tires and mounted on the first thing they ran pass me, (the black t-9s) well I'm not going through the dealer for nothin anymore anyway, thats how I got beat, I did it to myself, hence me kicking myself. Thanks for the info bro, I just wanted to know if I had a chance, lol. Damn.
