NMGrizz, I did the same thing for a Prairie and Rancher. Your bracket with the Champion will not fit as you know. Go to ebay and look under winches. There is a Venom distributor that will sell model specific mounting plate and it will cost you around $50 including shipping. It shows you the particular bracket (plate) you will get so you have an idea. Go into winches and search for Grizzly. Mount the Champion to it's plate (for fairlead reasons if Grizz plate does not have place for fairlead) and to the Grizz plate. Stack the three and send bolts through. It works great. I had to drill extra holes on mine for the Prairie but the one for the Rancher will mount right up with a small cut needed for 1 bolt clearance. It's quick and easy with very little modding if any. Here's another tip. When you mount the Champion, it is hot wired to the battery (with a fuse) but power is always available. I went to Wal-Mart and bought a $2 heavy duty toggle switch and installed it between battery and fuse and have it under the seat. This way I can flip the switch and if anyone decides to "play" while quad is sitting, the winch won't work and battery won't drain. Let me know how it goes and if you have any more questions. Good luck.

One other thing, the Rancher plate I got had a place to mount the fairlead. However, the Champion fairlead does not fit the bolt pattern so I will have to buy a new fairlead. Best case scenario is the Grizz plate does not have a place to mount a fairlead and you just run the Champion fairlead from Champion plate location. You'll see...it's easy.

I recently purchased a Sams Club Champion Atv winch. Where can I buy the mouting kit for my 05 Grizzly? Is it going to be more expensive than the winch itself? Thanks..........Matt

Does anyone at least have a pic of what a mount would look like for an ATV winch mount. The Winch came with the mounting plate, but I just don't know how to mount that onto the Grizzly. The Grizzly has like 4 holes on the inner bottom front portion of the frame there, but it sits at an angle, so I'm assuming the brackets they sell for the grizzly would bring the winch up to the right angle? The websites that sell the mounting kit for the Grizzly don't have pics of the mounts, probably so folks don't use the pics to make their own. Thanks............

I'm not afraid to bend, weld, drill steel plate. It would be great if I could get a pic of one installed, or of a bracket.

I finally ordered a KFI winch mount off Ebay for $34 plus 10 bucks shipping over the weekend. The sellers ebay name is cboelman incase anyone is interested. It's made for the Grizzly 660, and is supposed to fit all winches including Venom and Superwinch. I thought it was a sweet deal. I was going to make one, but decided to buy this one at that price, powder coated and all! Thanks.......

As far as the controller, I'm thinking of running it into the storage compartment with the all the excess wire just coiled up neat, and installing a toggle switch somewhere for safety of the battery.

The KFI mounting plate worked out better than excellent. It's a great product. I did just run the switch into the storage box. It could use a little more wire, but it works for me. I've used the winch a couple times to stretch some wire for fence, and other small chores around my property, and it works good. Can't complain for a winch at that price.

if you can't weld, bend, drill, and fabricate steel plate, you are going to need to buy a Grizzly specific mount or winch bumper

the simple plate you have is a good start if you are going to make a mount yourself

winches can kill, it should be right

I too ordered a winch mount From KFI in Minn.
The are not an importer but a manufacturer, Very good people to deal with, Ask for Corey.

The mount i used bolted right up, no cutting at all. I put the contactor under the front cowel, below the light pod. I ran the wires back to the battery.

i had this exact issue yesterday w/my Sams champion winch and 03 rubicon....ended up buying a warm mounting plate for my model...about 75 bucks....yes as much as the winch.....

mounted fairly easy....

i used stainless bolts between the plate included and the warn plate...had to drill because the bolt pattern was not the same....

the thing i am looking for now is a smaller controller.....like the warn rocker switch for the handlebars....

So this winch mount you bought for the Grizzly mounts to the four bolt holes on the frame which mounts the winch at a pretty good angle but the fairlead would be straight up and down. Is that how I see it.

I was wondering how the mounting kit worked from KFI? Did you run into any problems? Did you end up putting the controller in the storage area and did that work ok?

I have a honda rincon and have the same winch. Also, is the winch working to your expectations?

Thanks for any info.

Thanks NMGriz and Deerkiller for the reply and info.

I emailed KFI to see if there were any problems with the mount as regards to the Champion winch. They said, "the Roller Fairlead that comes with the Champion has the incorrect Bolt pattern to work on any US standard ATV winch mounts".

I also have been thinking of a better way to use the controller without having that gaudy thing showing. I was thinking maybe a trailer light outlet and plug could be used. Like the small round ones that are used for boats a small trailers for the taillights. The outlet or female side could be connected directly to the battery and winch and I could modify the controller side to use the male end of the plug, of course, using the same wire color alignments. Then I could wire it somewhere on the atv to where I could just plug in the controller when I need to use it. I can keep the controller in my buddy seat. The only thing I would have to check is to make sure the wire guage is the same or better. What do you think of this idea?

Thanks again for the info.

I bought this winch at my Sams Club and got it half price on their mistake $44. I made my own plate/bracket and put it to a good test the next weekend. I got in some deep nasty stuff and never failed to pull me out. Its a tough winch and my mount held up BR>
Just do some google searches for a Mounting Kit instructions or PDF and it should lead you to a picture of what your mounting kit will look like. Took me about an hr to find what my mount would look like, but I finally found it and saved myself about $50.
