BOMB 800 AND BOMB 400 both look like great choices if you don't mind the paying the price to get it. The Visclock front diff looks like it would be really good for snow. Both have great power, even the 400 dyno's and performs like a 500 in other brands.

Anything more than a foot of powder snow will leave your bike to only plowing the driveway until the snowmobiles pack everything down, evven then you have to air down your tires and stick to the trails. In the spring of the year when the snow is packed down and frozen, you can go pertty much anywhere.

A machine wiht a choke and a carb heater will start easilly in the winter. On really cold days, I leave the key on for up to a minuite for the carb heater to warm, then I start the bike. Sometimes I'll have to use the primer button too.

A snowmobile is a heck of alot more fun in the snow though!!!

hmmm, this would be hard to say. A person that has ridden every quad could probally tell ya. Im going with somthing irs and very powerfull so it can spin the wheels quick.

well the arctic cat has the best ground clearance on the market the 650 has good power it is automatic has locking front diff. and well the grizzly should go through more then the foreman due to the ground clearance but if you say so. and tires are a big factor as to how well any atv goes through the snow. i know i can hold mine to the pin and go through alot of snow and my mom and dad both have foreman's well dad's has the same tires mine has and there is no challenge on my part. and when it comes to snow seems like heavier does better. you look at pickups why does a diesel 1 ton do so well in the snow????

it is nice to have a lil primer button on the carb i know that some of the arctic cats have it and that the honda's have it. very nice for cold starting. and i personally think atv's are more fun in snow more of a challenge i guess that is why i am selling my snowmobile cause i put way more miles on my atv each winter then snowmobile.

like XtremeSkier said.. i have medium sized tires with good sized tred on my fourtrax 200 and that thing goes anywhere i go in the snow...its really light quad.

this is an interesting question to me as I do most of my riding on snow. I have owned many atv's over the years and have a pretty good idea what works good and what doesnt. We like to climb steep, snow covered hills and also see how much snow on the level they go through to see who's is the best. I wont go into any brands but the mechanics of the atv is what matters most. The most important thing to have is an auto trans. Up big hills, a manual seems to not spin the tires fast enough in 2nd and usually bogs down in 3rd. An auto will always keep the motor in its powerband and keep the tires moving, especially with a big motor. After that, weight makes a pretty big difference and so does a locking front diff, I cant count the times when i'd be chugging up a hill then stop dead in my tracks and notice its because 1 front wheel stopped turning. As for plowing, as long as its 4wd, cant go too far wrong. hope this helps.

What's the best ATV for snow? That includes plowing as well as climbing. Now as far as I know, the biggest doesn't mean the best for snow. For example, between a grizzly and foreman, I find the foreman to do a better job. Various features, engineering, etc. all lend to a better machine. Post your experiences here.

I heard that the old bomb traxters are the best. Traxter doesn't sound much too different than tractor, you know.

If you want, you can also post which ones are the best for all around work, not play.

Thanx..

I think that was for the other post dude....Stick to this one

For you, atvrider, I've been to the offroad park, and didn't like it too much. Riding on my own property with my quad seems more interesting. By the way, I live around the Allentown/Millstone Area.

About the One ton duallys, is diesel, by the way, do they do good in snow? How well?

Well anyway, I hope sweet650 gives us some specific ones to follow up his post.

Herte's a little twist, What's the best quad for snow when you have a 50 degree driveway slope at 400ft?

big tires on a yamaha blaster..thats the best u can do..u get on those light quads and they litterally drive on top of the snow..

but as for a big bore quad the more ground clearence the better so i'd go w/a brute force or something, just git some huge Holeshot ATR's on there and u'll be set

Posted by: spyder6

a tall IRS and powerfull utility quad would be your best bet

and as your your dually pickup, it'll do terrible, with having that dually the weight on the rear end is spread out so much that you'll NEVER get traction

ITP Holeshot ATR's

My Yamaha Kodiak fires right up in the cold. I just choke it and a flick of the starter button and she's going. I let it warm up for a few minutes of course but it seems to behave fine in the cold and snow. I plow my long driveway fine.

My experience has been that CG is key, but so is weight.

I've seen machines with less GC out-run a high GC machine that weighs 150lbs more because the heavier machine broke through the base.

If its fresh snow with no base, the higher GC quad will take more snow.

Hello ATVRider

I ride an 04 Rubicon. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. It does OK in the snow. I have found that a lot more of getting through the snow is technique, but there are certain characteristics of an ATV that just physically limit where you can go, and its different for each atv type. Tires help a ton too - if the base isn't too deep.

A friend had a Big Bear and it was pretty dependable if you stayed up with the maintenance. I think the air cooled machines are pretty good in the snow because of their lower weight.

hey, what's up? my name is mike and i agree with you. I have a Yamaha 350 Big Bear( utility) it is great in the snow. I just went riding today in Chatsworth NJ, at the New Jersey Off Road Vehicle Park. It's awesome, if you haven't gone, you should go if you have an ATV. (what kind of ATV do you have? or dirtbike)

yea, you're right
