Didn't they call lots of models "Moto 4" back then??? Like Honda calls everything TRX now??? Post a picture, or load it up and take it down to a dealership and ask them what it is.
I would get on the maintenance thing right away! No doubt it is dying for an oil change, valve adjustment, etc..............

If it was Yamaha's first 4 wheel, it's a classic! Restore it if you can. It's a unique experience riding one of those old machines where the balooney tires are the only suspension!
Other maintenance items: spark plug, change the differential oil, and of course the air filter.

Bought a used quad at a garage sale for 200 clams. Its ugly as hell but it kicks right over with the electric start button. Best part...the guy threw in the snow plow that goes with it!! I plowed my entire neighborhood sidewalks last year with it but I think I should do some basic maintenance before this season hits. I have no idea what it is besides it being a 80's Yamaha quad. Has the word "Shaft" screened on the seat. No model identification anywhere on it. It has no suspension but the air in the tires and it is definetly a utility quad. By the way it's a four stroke and has a reverse gear. Can't really tell the original color but I'm guessing black tank with the plastics being sky blue??!! It is a semi-auto with a four speed I believe.
My question is this...Can I look up anywhere using the serial number to identify this beast of a quad? Take a guess? Anyone?
Thanks my brothers!

A Moto Four huh....What year did Yammie make these?

This thing runs like a raped ape. VERY reliable. It takes a country mile to turn this thing around though...Any pics available anywhere to confirm identity? Before I do the ebay thing I just want to be certain.
Thanks

No, thats not it.....The quad that I have doesn't have any shocks at all.
Thanks for the reply. Any other takers??

You guys ROCK!
The picture that Brutebadger posted is probably it. The cowling that wraps up around the gas tank is missing on mine. Not that it needs it to be functional but it does make for a prettier face on my beast.
You guys are right about the oil change for sure. I can also hear the valves tapping away as well.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for the best place for replacement parts? This thing is 20 years young and I doubt I can march into my local Yamaha dealer and yank something off of his shelves......Ebay maybe! Any info on this quad would be most helpful.
Thanks again!

Yea, no shiit! We plowed with this thing all of last winter WHILE pulling a toboggan full of the neighborhood kids. Oh what fun it is to ride...........................They are bulletproof!

If you can, put a picture of it in your gallery, then everybody can look at it. I'll bet somebody will recognize it.
Any Yammi dealers around you can take a pic to and see "if" they know? Not that they will thoughBR>
Wow, no suspension??????? I'll bet that's a fun ride img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">
Good luck, let us know what you find out..........

Welcome to the forum YZRONNIE, Pics would definitely help us to identify your quad. Most likely it is a early moto4. But its like reconranger said, that was a pretty generic term for a yamaha quad.

It is more than likely a Moto4. We had one for years and years. It, too, had no suspension and it didn't look much like the one in the picture either. Maybe it was an earlier model?. I don't know.
1985 Moto-4 Is it like this one?
Posted by: brutebadger
We had one and just sold it a couple of summers ago to a little kid that bugged us for months to sell it to him. I think we sold it for about $200 as well and that thing still ran like she had 100 miles on it and we put it through hell a thousand times over. They don't build them like they used to, LOL.

haha, i have no clue but good luck! sounds like a pretty good quad for the money. if its a yamaha that has forward and reverse and starts easily AND has a plow then thats a pretty good deal. not good for riding.... good for plowing, lol.
