It's not a quad, but I do have an '82 Kawasaki KLT 250 three wheeler. It sat in the back of the shop for about twelve years before my granddad gave it to me this past summer. After a new set of tires, a new battery, and a long session of carb cleaning, it runs better than it did when it was new. It's a lot of fun, but I never should have fixed it up. Now my stepmother and my neighbor have dug their old three and four wheelers out, just to see if I can get them to run!

I ride with a lot of older guys who have vintage Banshees and one LT250 that they all bought back in the day. I am quite happy to tow them home now and then!

Two other guys have vintage Honda 300 4X4's, that I don't think will ever stop running.

Same here, great bike. Bought mine off the original owner about four or five years ago. No smoke , runs strong, plastics in decent shape for 20 years old, lol- one fender does have crack stitched up with zip ties but that only adds a little character! That little bike has hauled myself (220#), and my brother in law (250#), while dragging a deer (160#) and we crossed streams and stone walls...it didn't like it, but it didn't complain neither. Nope, it don't owe me a nickel....

Just sold my AC 400, so now all I have is the old TRX200.

My bosses father has one of these as well. Along with my dad's '85 I would have to agree with you totally.

I wish I could say the same for my 1990 TRX200...

It is need of minor repairs. Muffler almost all gone, engine smokes a little bit, all four tires need replacing, seat is nothing but duck tape, dead battery with no kick starter, lights don't work, handelbars are bent, and body pannels are in poor shape. I think that covers it all. This winter I am going to try to do a big makeover, however parts are hard to find for this one.

I still have a 88 honda 300 2wd, Dad bought her new when I was like 10. Now my wife rides it now, does'nt even smoke!! My buddy just bought a 350 foreman 4x4 off a guy, what a tank! I beleive he said it is a 1990ish, the front axle is unreal on that thing! It still runs needs a fuel pump is all, yeah that floored me, it had an electric fuel pump! pretty cool!

i got the grand daddy of old 4x4's i have a 1987 suzuki 250 4x4 with true fully independent rear suspension hi low and super low gearing and it has 2wd 4wd and diff lock. it has bout 3000 original miles on it and i am doing a lil more to it each year to fix it up i gotta spend like 500 dollars on fenders cause the fenders are all broke up and i need to fix the breaks and it has a leak between the motor and the tranny somewhere. but it is so light that she will go through alot.

I still ride around my dad's old '85 Honda TRX250 from time to time. I think he paid $2150.00 for it new back in 5/85. Still runs great. He had the seat recovered a few years ago and starter has been rebuilt a couple times but carb has never needed a rebuild. Considering it's age there probably aren't many in as good a shape. It even has the stock front tires still on it. :-)

I have a 95 Kodiak that I was given last year... it was somewhat beaten on and neglected. Runs fine, but looks not so great.

I use it to plow my drive (got plow kit less than 1/2 price as it was sitting in dealers warehouse since 95) to drive to my hunting area (across road).

I'm planning to coat the plastic with camo tape or camo clad (its currently a sun faded yellow) unless others have had good success with repainting. Also, the racks need to come off to be sanded and repainted.

Also, I need wheels as the current wheels are pretty dented up.. Anyone have some?

in addition to the newbie, got a 1985 polaris trail boss 350L 4x4....Originally bought in 2002 as a makeshift utility vehicle. must agree, hauls like a beast, smooth ride, and materials are superb.....still ride it as it is 20 years old and want to keep it running more.....

We have an old Yamaha Moto4. I think it is an '88 but not sure. It is a death wish to drive with no suspension.

Up until a year or so ago I still had my first quad. The YFM Moto4 Yamaha. It was the 225 (so it was a YFM225ER me thinks) had dual racks and about 2" front/rear suspension travel. It was a mid 80's model 85 or 86 I think. That was a great 4-wheeler, never a minutes trouble until the end, the clutch pack began to slip a little, but if left in Low Range it was fine.

More power.... no I don't think so, but I don't think I've ridden a ATV that was geared lower. That YFM and my '92 Timberwolf were such good machines. I have to say that Yamaha's have treated me right. Thus my wife rides a Yamaha Bruin 250. Basically my 'wolf with new plastics, better lighting, and disk front brakes.

We had the same moto4 when I was a kid!!! Great wheeler but we used it like a sport quad not a utility. Man it beat the $hit out of you. When you jumped the thing it felt like you were jumping a tank. One time I was on a berm at night and tried to slide the rear end out on what I thought was mud at top of berm (it was rocks). Well I was trying to slide to turn right and the right handle grip just pulled off and since I was on a berm I fell right off and landed at bottom of hill. As I started sitting back up for a second I thought the cops were coming because I saw flashing lights in front of me. About the time I realized they were white lights I also realized it was my wheeler rolling down the hill. No chance to move. That rear rack smashed me right in the head. Luckily my head was next to a rock that was bigger than my head so all it did was smack me back down. Still hurt getting smacked in the head and having a wheeler of that weight laying on top of you, but at least it didn't squash my brains out. Wear your helmet is the moral I guess.
